Equipment: -Pioneer Avh-p5100 h/u Speakers: -Usher 8948a 7" midbass - active -Hertz HSK 165 comp set (6.5" midrange and ht25 tweets) - passive -Morel MDT-39 tweets - active Amps: -Soundstream Van Gogh 500.4 (powering morel tweets and hsk comp set) -Arc Audio SE 2075 (powering usher 8948a's) -US Amps AX3200DE (powering subs @ .75ohms) Subs: -2 12" TC sounds neo axis (2500wrms each - 3ohm DVC drivers) Batteries: -XS Power D2400 -XS Power S1200 up front Need to order: -Mechman 240A H/O alt -Audiocontrol Overdrive Plus line driver So here's the deal. I had one TC 12 axis neo in a 4th order off the ax3200de running at 1.5 ohms sans box rise. No line driver, and I needed one bad since my highs amp at the time didn't have rca outputs so I had to use y-adapters. Either way it did a 140 outlaw on the tl. Not bad imo since it was for a SQ'ish install anyways. But I missed my old 12" btls and was soon fienin for bass again. So I am redoing my system, in fact I am almost done with it... just need to order the H/O alt and line driver, and need to finish wrapping my doors since I fiberglassed them to fit all my frontstage. I will have no rear fill. Then a nice tune and it's done! I built a birch enclosure tuned to around 32hz and used a 7.5" aero port (home depot sonotube) and had Adrian_D off SSA make me some custom flares which fit like a glove. I also sealed the rear deck and trunk lid gaps and holes with great stuff, and filled the rear inner panels and a,b, and c pillars with polyfil. I fiberglassed sealed enclosures for each speaker in the doors and am adding polyfil into them. I will update this thread as I get things finished off. Please excuse the pics, as I took them over time, they are all mixed up. lol The car:

For instance, Seas W26 Excel. Great driver, $300 each, but the magnesium cone creates some crossover concerns. (not too mention a rather high build cost) See those big ass peaks at 3-5kHz, with the monster at 4kHz. It is FAR from trivial to pull a 15dB spike out of a speaker and build a crossover that will make it play nice in that range. What most speaker builders would do would be to limit the upper frequency of that driver less than 1200Hz. Then they only have to deal with the little efficiency hump from 500-700Hz instead of the monster up higher. Read far from trivial as nearly impossible.

$750 vs $580 I know which one I would buy.

I ordered my 12" DCON right around the end of last year. There were some hiccups and a bit of miscommunication but overall it took about two weeks. I made a custom center console for my silverado reg cab that replaced the center seat. It was ported at about 31hz on 400 watts and it performed flawlessly. I enjoyed the hell out of that thing for about 3 weeks until some bastard busted the window and stole it. I have since sold the truck and will soon be running 2 x 12" DCONS in my TSX. All that aside, I was REALLY impressed and I would GLADLY wait again.....I'm about to order 2 more

I was speaking in terms of competition as that is the the only theater in which "sound Quality" lives. Measurements don't measure quality, they measure quantity. That's the problem we keep running into in these debates. People take our type and terms to mean something different. When you take the measurements, you are measuring the sound, not the sound quality. When you throw that word in there, it makes everything subjective. No computers or numbers can ever give an indication of quality.

That definition is how SQ is judged not actually what SQ means. Sir, Can you please explain to me the true definition of Sound Quality ?? This is What I come up with ... Advanced Car Audio Sound Quality Concepts Although the four basic sound quality concepts (clarity, dynamic range, frequency response, and tonal balance) are the most fundamental to understand before purchasing a new car audio system, there are a few other sound quality attributes that are also important. Timbre Timbre (pronounced "TAM-bir") refers to a system's ability to recreate the sound of an instrument as it was originally intended to be heard. An acoustic guitar is usually a good test for this because most people have heard one. Does the sound have that warm, slightly resonant quality that the instrument is known for, or does it merely sound like a low-resolution reproduction of that signature sound? Tonal accuracy Tonal accuracy describes how faithful a system is in general to the original recording. It can apply to instruments as well as vocals. The more accurate the system is while playing a good recording, the more you feel as if you are there, listening to a live performance as opposed to a recording. Tonal accuracy can also apply to the ambiance in a recording, which refers to the space in which a recording is made. Most modern recordings are made in a sort of vacuum, with individual instruments recorded separately or, in the case of some rap music, the individual parts are sampled from other recordings. But many older recordings, some modern ones, and almost all live albums capture the environment in which the performance was recorded. In fact, certain recording studios and performance spaces are known and revered for their sound, which give a recording or performance a specific ambiance. Think of timbre and tonal accuracy as the reproduction of how close you get to the actual performance or how the producer intended for it to sound. Whether it's the sound of Miles Davis's trumpet, Jimmy Page's guitar, a Dr. Dre beat, or the ambiance of Carnegie Hall, how well a system can reproduce it the way it went down in a studio or concert hall determines the difference between a good system and a great one. Staging and imaging Staging and imaging are related concepts that go back to the heyday of stereo, and therefore don't always apply to modern music. The basic idea is that when you're listening to a stereo recording, the system should recreate the illusion of the stage on which the performance occurred, and you should be able to pinpoint the sonic image of the individual performers and instruments within the stage. Think about the example of a basic rock band that includes a singer, guitarist, bass player, and drummer. You should be able to close your eyes and picture the singer at the center of the stage, the guitarist to the right, the bass player on the left, and the drummer center and behind the singer. Keep in mind that this is an ideal that sound quality systems should approach if not achieve. With rap and many pop-music recordings, the vocalist will be centered, but the concept of a band playing on a stage doesn't exactly apply. Speaker placement has a dramatic effect on staging and imaging, and hardcore enthusiasts often go to great lengths to position their speakers for the best possible results. This includes rebuilding door panels to better position speakers. Some have even built elaborate mechanisms to mount speakers in or raise them above the dash in order to achieve better staging and imaging. Finally, no discussion of sound quality would be complete without mentioning interior acoustics. A car's interior, its reflective surfaces (such as glass), and its absorptive materials (upholstery) play a dramatic role in a system's response. And every car interior is different; if you install the exact same components in your Toyota Camry that your friend has in his Chrysler 300C, the systems will sound very different.

There are some great minds/experience in this thread attempting to remove misinformation. I'm still trying to get my head around the T.S. parameters and how they can help me choose a better driver for my likes and application. I believe equipment, installation and tuning all play a role in achieving the end goal, but as soon as you put a person in front of the drivers there is no longer a standard for good sound. I've seen allot of arguments in my day as to whether sound quality is subjective or not, by definition I believe it is not. The only thing I can do is find a frequency response curve that I find pleasing to my ears and try to reproduce it to the best of my ability with the options available to me. Quote by ibanender from first post. I've underlined two spots in your original post that make this a loaded question. This question simply can't be answered without more information. This question is subjective and the answer/s would be 100% subjective and relative to a persons goals. I'm certainly not the smartest or most experienced member here, far from it actually. Nor am I the first to state that it cannot be answered. If you believe there is a clear winner here, I'd like to hear your conclusion and why.

Here are some of the box and port, and how it sits right now. Box is bolted down and secured...everything is so nothing moves as a make quick turns and stops. Flares are just primered until I decide on a color.

BS Eric... You were told exactly what was going on time after time, and when I finally gave you an exact date it would be done, guess what? It was done.. You just pitched a fit the day before, demanded a refund and I GAVE someone else the alt I built for you. Shitty thing is man I bent over BACKWARDS to get that done for you too because of how things went down and how bad you needed it. Too bad for you though man, the XP's for the Hyundai's turned out pretty freaking SICK. You could have had your alt and would have absolutely loved it too... Get over it and move on bro... I don't care how good your alts may be, or how bad your suppliers have stiffed you with delays. You act like a complete douche to customers on the internet forums. This is not the first time I've seen you spout off with smart-ass comments towards a customer on here. It actually seems to be a pretty common reaction from you when a customer says something you don't like. I'm not arguing that you don't have a right to respectfully defend your company. But for fuck's sake, handle it with a little dignity. There's a right way and a wrong way to handle a situation, it seems more often than not you chose the latter. There's always two sides to a story.....but given the way you conduct yourself on here, I'm not surprised by all of the negative things said about the CS from your company given you can't even remotely conduct yourself in a professional manor when interacting with customers here on the forum. Proving a customer wrong isn't winning. DC isn't the first company in history to have supplier issues and unhappy customers.....however a shit load of those other companies are capable of handling the situation with far more dignity, professionalism and respect.

Strand count has nothing to do with DC since there is no skin effect and the current travels through the entire conductor. This is a huge, huge missunderstanding in the car audio community. There is no such thing as copper tinned copper. Normal copper that is tinned with anything only helps with oxidation in the DC realm. (again, no skin effect in DC so higher conductivity tinning has miniscule effect) Aluminum wire of the same gauge is a much worse conductor than copper, no matter what the aluminum is plated with. That is pretty much the end all and can't really be disputed. Period.

Ok well lets get right down to the grit of this issue... Tirefryr is right and wrong to some extent mostly right, wire is not just wire, when you are talking about a power supply of 5vdc @ 20ma max the right conductor is CRUCIAL. It may be the difference between having to go back to the R&D stage of a product or using what you have. That's the wrong, he is right about wire in the application of car audio. In the world of car audio we use current in such excessive amounts and use such short runs (relative to the total resistance of the conductor) that when your taking brand A compared to brand B the differences are all the way out to the 3rd and 4th decimal place resistance per foot....and unless they are using an O-scope to measure that you will never know, a typical fluke meter has a 1%+/-!!!!! Now for the stand count....... The idea behind the strand count is surface area, nothing more. Electrons flow from positive to negative over the surface of a conductor not though it. so the more strands you have in a conductor the more area you can generate in the same MCL or gauge of wire.
