  1. So I currently have a d2 icon wired to one ohm in a ported box running off at sundown sae 1200 v2. I also have 2 fi ssds d1(s), I built a sealed box for them and wired them in parallel; on the dmm it reads .7 ohms. My vehicle is a buick lesabre which has 130 amp alt. With the icon my electrical is great, the lowest i see is 14.0 (13.8 or so with the a/c on) at full tilt while at a stop light or something. I put the fi's in, a direct swap. I left the amp setting the same. My voltage is horrible, dropping into the 12s at full tilt at highway speeds. So i turned down the gain, pretty much a 1/4 turn back and my voltage is just as bad. My lights flicker horribly and the voltage isnt stable at all, my amp even went into protect. I double checked my wiring, all the positives are wired together/ all the negatives are wired together; parallel right? I put the icon back in today, turned the gain back up and the voltage is as stable as ever before, staying in the 14s. I just dont get it, can anyone explain this?
  2. Ok I guess my actual question now is: Is .7-8 ohm for the two dual 1.4 subs wired in parallel an accurate reading? Too me it just seems to far off what 12volts diagram shows (2 dual 2s in parallel=.5 ohm)
  3. So when I wire them parallel, the dmm is showing .7-8. Isnt that close enough to a 1 ohm load for my amp? So ported enclosures are more efficient? My plan was to use both ssds in a 4 cu ft box tuned to 32 hz on my sae 1200 if I had the wiring correct. Just standard ssd's, no high qts. Theyre a few years old when they were still rated for 800 watts.
  4. I know its been a really long time lol but anywho, I got questions and im pretty rusty on wiring configurations. But anyways I finally got around to pulling the ssds out of storage (brainstorming lol) and checking them with a dmm. Definitely confused, all the coils read 1.4-1.5(yes i measured them individually); those would be considered d2 correct? I bought them used and could swear I bought as d1's, but that's besides the point. So I wire them up, in what I believe is parallel; all postives hooked together and same for negatives, do I have that right? Wired together they read .7-8which is what I want but after looking up wiring cconfigurations I feel like its wrong. Advice please.
  5. So I just finished up my box today, upon installing the subs in the box I slipped with the drill and punctured the surround. It's a decent sized slit, maybe 3/4 to an inch; it runs diagonal. The subs are Fi SSDs with foam surrounds. I've been searching google for a bit now for the best advesive to use and keep seeing amazing goop and rtv silicone being suggested. Which is better? Would some type of epoxy work? And should I put a piece of fabric or duct tape on the back the slit, with whichever adhesive/ sealer?

ok so amazing goop it is... how about the fabric or duct tape of the back of the wound, is that a good idea?

I was just looking through my garage and found some black silicone adhesive sealant. Is that rtv silicone? and would it work as well or better than the others?

    Throwing around some ideas

Im currently running an icon 12 in a 2 cu ft ported enclosure tuned to 32 hz on a sundown sae 1200 v2 @ 1 ohm. I had a pair of fi ssds (d1s) before this, but i only ran one. when i bought the icon, i sold my friend one of the ssds and planned to throw the other in my gfs car but i never got around to it. well my friend has had the ssd for almost 2 maybe 3 months ago (has not used it) and text me the other day and asked if i knew anyone that would want to buy it ($100...i sold it to him for 125). so im kind of thinking about buying it back. the amp i have for my gfs car is a rd 1000 v1 amp (ik not the most favorable company, but ive had the amp for 5ish years and not a problem). if i do buy the ssd back, i was thinking id run them sealed in my car and throw the icon with said box in her car. sealed because 1.) i want to keep space in my trunk 2.) i think sealed may be bettter for my listening habits, i listen to a lot of rock and alternative and some rap. she on the other hand only listens to rap. but the part making my decision tough is ive never ran sealed. i understand its all install depend, but would i be losing output switchin to two 12s sealed? i mean its twice the cone area but itll be sealed. i do want it to be louder obviously. and will a sealed box still hit the lows like my ported set-up? if its a favorable situation, ill have more questions on building the correct size box for them. ik shed be happy either way but i dont wanna downgrade to make it that happen lol, selfish i know. btw my car is a buick lesabre, yes it has a massive trunk but i take alot of trips to chicago and i use wat trunk space i have. if its not favorable for me to do so, shell just be gettin a single ssd @ 2 ohms off the rd. im satisfied with my system as is but louder wouldnt bother me

im probably the confused one lol. i listen to probably 40% rap and 60% a mix of rock and alternative. rap sounds amazing, kills the lows; rock songs just arent that impressive (with the exception of some). i just figured the sealed box would have a wider frequency range giving me more output on those rock songs, which would be exactly wat i want. bare with me now, someones always designed my ported boxes and i just build them. so when making a sealed box, is there a way of tuning it like adjusting the depth in contrast to the height or something? or just make sure it meets the recommended air space accounting for displacement and build away? should i make it a lil bigger since im only running 1200 watts?

pretty much, im just wondering what you more experienced folks would do....as well as the other 2 questions. thanks guys/ girls

    confused :( Fi SSD10 or Sundown SA-10

I know my answer is subjective, what's loud to me might not be to you but anyway. I'm running a 12" ssd at 2 ohms on a sundown sae 1200 which is rated at 600 watts rms at that ohm load and i'm very happy with it. It gets surprisingly loud for a single 12 at the power I'm running, it gets nice and low. Plus its US made

    Kicking around ideas.

Hello all, I'm extremely bored and have been thinking about updating my system so i decided to make my first post in quite awhile. Currently I have 1 12" Fi SSD wired to 2 ohms, running off a Sundown SAE 1200 v2, in a 2 cu ft enclosure tuned to 32 hz. Electrical wise, I replaced my stock battery with a group 78 AGM from O'reilly's (supposedly made by deka) and I replaced the factory ground with 0 gauge. My stock alt is 130 amp and at idle when hot my voltage stays at 14.6 and up, even at max volume with the air off it may drop to 14.4 on songs with a consisent beat (only seen 13 volts maybe a handful of times with the air on and at idle in drive). Now that it's starting to cool of my voltage is much higher, i'm talking 14.9-15.0 volts at start-up and 14.8 when hot, at high volumes maybe ill see 14.5 but it's been pretty steady. I'm happy with this system for now but I'd like louder. Here's what I've been thinking about doing (2 options): 1. I have a second SSD that I bought because the seller wouldn't separate but he did give me a BA deal for taking both. Of course, I'd be wiring them to 1 ohm, essentially doubling my power and cone area, correct? I don't want a huge port box, I like the space I have running this single sub setup. But if i go sealed, the box wouldn't be much bigger than what I have. Another dilemma with this idea, I love my box. I put alot of time into building it: it's birch plywood, double baffle and flush mount, rounded off all edges, 45s in all corners, and put a good 10 coats of poly urethene on it. 2. Sell both these SSDs and get a beefier 12(waiting for the icon to be re-released) maybe a bl or deathrow and run it at one ohm in the box i have now. I listen to mostly rap and some rock, and I love the low lows. I understand it's all install dependent but how does a single 12 ported compare to 2 12s sealed on the same power? Like i said, i'm just kicking around ideas and looking for some opinions from those more experienced than myself which isn't much but hey. Sorry for the lack of organization in my post, I believe its still understandable, but if it's not ill gladly try to elaborate.

Thanks for the input guys . I still dont know what i wanna do lol. All the pictures of my box are on my old phones sd card which i dont have with me. I do have a video tho. the voltage in the video differs from what I described because it was before i swapped my battery, replaced stock grounds, and it was right around 100 degrees out that day. I know the video isnt as good as pictures from the building process but it's all i have to show for now (i can take some pics but its raining atm) Also, I know i have a huge ass trunk but i need the extra space for a baby stroller and what not
  21. I currently have a 750 ca ac delco battery in my 2001 Buick lesabre. I'm going to be running my sundown sae 1200 @ 2 ohms for awhile and then may be adding a sub and dropping to one ohm. My car has a stock 130 amp alt. I have a kinetik hc1400 from my last system that is just sittin around and haven't gotten much interest when I tried selling it locally so figured might as well use it if it'll be better. First off can kinetiks be used as stand alone batteries? I don't want to run two batteries, so I'm wondering if the kinetik I have would be better then the ac delco battery in the car, like will it be noticably better?
  22. I'm only looking to run one battery. I need the space in my trunk, and the box already takes up enough so I want to keep the battery in it's stock location.
  23. Thanks for the responses guys. I have the special application hc1400, with the taller terminal post. My battery is located under my back seat and the kinetik is a little over an inch too tall. But I have found a local buyer for it so Ill have some moneys for some different, hopefully the kid doesn't back out. I've been pondering giving the oreilly super start agm a try. After a little research I've only seen good reviews and according to what I've read they're made by deka. Only 140 for the one that fits my car, which is group 78. Seems like a deal just wondering if anyone here had any experience with them?
  24. So what you doing with that dead mtx?
  25. I installed a fi ssd lastnight. My enclosure is 2 cu ft tuned to 32 hz. At first I set the subsonic filter at about 12 o'clock and I wasn't impressed, the lows were really lacking. I figured since the filter ranges from 15-50 that half way would be 32.5. I turned the filter back to around 10 o'clock and the sub really opened up, I'm very happy with it now. I don't want to harm my new woofer so I'm just curious if I have it set correct. Other info. Hu is an alpine cda 105 (2 volt preouts). Amp gain set a hair over half way. No bass boost and I'd say the lpf is set around 10 o'clock also
