    ICON 15 vs DC LVL 3 15???

Thank you for the input. I felt I had done well with not pushing things to hard. However, my car had acquired a few more rattles over the past year. That I just recently remedied. So maybe I wasn't hearing the stress and distortion. This is my first full system in 10+ years. Had old school power series woofers back in the day and never had any issues. And in my younger years I would just throttle on them. Now, I've worked in the industry years ago and have been an enthusiast for the majority of my life. So, I'm not completely naïve, nor am I anywhere near an expert. But, I did take the, "just play it and don't worry about it advice" from the shop for granted. Thinking, I just spent a butt load of money and the equipment should handle whatever I throw at it. Guess I was wrong and Lessoned learned. I lucked out and the first sub was replaced under warranty. Unable at this time to find out if they will warranty the second, with everything shutdown. Yes, I totally agree that I do not want to keep burning thru woofers and I want to be able to enjoy my system and enjoy it without worry. Hence why I was thinking a different woofer might be a better fit for my scenario.... I don't desire to change my enclosure at this time. So I know that may limit my options. Would there be any other woofers out there that one would recommend to better suite my needs or is it just a matter of more diligence in tuning and volume adjustment on my part??? Thanks again for the advice and time!!!

    ICON 15 vs DC LVL 3 15???

Then I will need to educate myself on how to avoid clipping. Everything was purchased and installed at a local shop by a long time friend of mine. I gathered he had adjusted and set everything properly for me. Guessing this may not be the case for my listening style. The first T1 ran great for a little over a year and this last one maybe 6 months... Besides clipping and overheating, is there anything else I should be looking out for? Thanks!
  3. Hello all. Looking for input and opinions on which subwoofer would be the better choice, (ICON or DC LVL 3) for my scenario and for longevity. I have managed to destroy 2 Fosgate T1 15D2's in less then 2 years. Think it is time to find something of better quality or can handle my music/listening style better. Which consists of everything under the sun and usually very loud! So I need something that can handle whatever I throw at it. I don't compete and don't plan on it. Just enjoy my music... Thanks in advance and everyone have a great day!!! Quick run down of vehicle and system: 2001 VW Jetta 0g Power & Ground (from front to back) Big 3 with 0g 240 amp alternator Stinger battery up front and 2 smaller in the trunk (one for each amplifier) *don't recall model numbers. can get, if that important.* 4g from smaller batteries to amplifiers T1500bd (powering T1 15) T600.4 (powering Audison components front and coaxs in the rear) Enclosure is sealed, custom built wood and fiberglass @ approx. 1.8 - 2.0 cuft
  4. Appreciate the input guys. My DMM died, so I will track down another this wknd and see what it tells me. Should I test voltage at the amplifier and battery? I had contemplated upgrading to an AGM battery and potentially a slightly smaller second battery.
  5. Hello there, my name is Mark. I Would like some input on best options for continuing to improve my electrical system. I am not satisfied with the way things are performing now. Seems like my voltage is very inconsistent and that there is way too much draw at higher volumes. No I have not hooked a volt meter up to see what the voltage has been. However, the dimming of interior and exterior lights have been a good indication something more is needed. Here is a list of what's already completed. Thanks in advance for all input and help. Vehicle: 2001 Vw Jetta GLX 12v VR6 Audio Components Headunit: Pioneer Premier P980BT Amplifier: Soundstream TA5.1250 Front Components: Audison Voce AV K6 Rear Coax: Audison Voce AV X6. 5 Subwoofer: Fosgate T1D215 Electrical Battery : Group 41, 75 month, 560 CCA 240 amp Alternator 0g Big 3 0g Power & Ground (from battery to amp) Skyhigh Car Audio Cooper Battery Terminals
  6. Appreciate your input and since there isn't any benefits to mention, then I quess I can save some cash to put towards something else. Cheers /thread
  7. I understand that impedance isn't efficiency, but I thoughrt they were related. Lower resitance = better efficincy?
  8. So hoping others with more knowledge then I, could help clear up the wondering of my mind... What are the benifits of a person running a daily, (non-competitive) sub stage at 4 ohm compared to 1 ohm? Just curious if the pros were great enough, to dish out double the money for an amplifier? Thanks for everyones time and input!

    VW Passat install

Well that's a bummer he doesn't live closer to ya. Will be eager to see more, but will patiently wait. Yeah my pillars don't have the vent built in. Only downfall, my defrost vent is in the top of the dash. So yes i will be able to get more volume, just have to watch out for that. I was noticing that the overall dash shapes are the same and that's what intrigued me. Its gunna be another year or so before i can even think about this type of project. So on to further research and design. Again great work and cant wait to see more! Cheers, Mark

    VW Passat install

Excellent work! Anxious to see the rest! Anymore pics of the overall dash and pillars? Was curious how the on-axis 3 way set up using the a-pillars sounds? I have a jetta and some extra a-pillars in the garage, thinking of doing a similar setup for a front stage. Is it to much "in your face" or fairly well rounded with the 8's in the doors? Thnx, Mark

    GCON 15 Advice

I've decided to go with a dual 4 and run it at 2 ohm. So it looks to be a toss up between either 1500 (Skar or Sundown). I've thought about ported, (even porting thru the rear deck), but at the same time i would like to keep things clean and simple. try not to hack the car up any and still have some usable trunk space to boot. However im not opposed to it. Had a sixth order port thru box about ten years ago that a guy built for me and it looked and sounded great, but took up 3/4 of my trunk. Now how much larger are you thinking 3.25 - 3.5???
