    rl-10 info

Have an RL-i 10 on the way, should be here within the week. After talking it over with Mike of SS I decided to go with .65 cu ft(using a PPI Pro650 to give the sub 400 watts). I would have gone ported as Mike suggested but even a moderately tuned box would have had a huge port length. I think I will try the sealed at first and then depending on what I think may go ported.

    Which to choose?

You won't be disappointed. My RL-i8 pounds (very clean and smooth) with only a SAX-100.2 at 8 ohms in a poorly-designed horn enclosure. I can't wait to rebuild my box this weekend.. waiting on a new T-Box design from HexiBase. Sounds great sealed too. Well sealed is probably the way I am leaning to start off with as my main goal was downsizing to regain some of my limited trunk space. I'll see how that sounds for a while and then switch to ported if needed.

    Which to choose?

well, I decided to go with the RL-i. Should be here next week, now its time to start building the new box. Mike was great, responded to my questions very promptly. I now can see why everyone raves about SS customer service

    Which to choose?

I have been fortunate in my purchases on Ebay I have bought multiple subs without any issues. I have this tendancy to fall in love with older equipment(Round solobarics and PPI Powerclass/Art Series amps) and Ebay has been the only place I could find what I was looking for. I think all things considered I will most likely go with the RL-i, I have heard nothing but great things regarding the customer service at SS and having a waranty with a purchase is not a bad thing.

    Which to choose?

Well that's the thing price wise they are all very similar, I only included the Eclipse in my browsing because it is the 10" version of the 12 that I already have and like a lot! SS has had my attention before and yet I have never went ahead and made a purchase but I have heard about how great their customer service is!

    Which to choose?

Let me start this off by saying I have searched and read through many posts here and on the Caraudio.com and on theTCSounds forums to try and help me make this decision. Basically what I have is this I am planning to downsize from my current Eclipse 8122(TC7 motor) to a single 10. The sub will live in a sealed enclosure preferably on the smallish size as the reason for my downsize in system is that I have a new addition to the family and trunk space now comes at a premium! I have been looking at the following subs TC-1000, TC-7, RL-i and an Eclipse 8102 NIB off of Ebay. Based on what I have been able to gather the TC-1000 and RL-i are very similar in that they both use the TC2(or is it TC2+) motor likewise the TC-7 and the eclipse are similar in that they both use the TC7 motor(correct me if I am wrong on any of this). I have 400 watts at 2ohms to play with from a PPI Pro-650 and I really listen to it all from rap to rock to alternative to talk(sports talk only). I want to stay within a 1 ft^3 I think for a sealed application. Thanks for any comments/thoughts you might be able to provide on this subject, I understand that subwoofer choice is truly a subjective thing but I am more just trying to get a little background info on these woofers. Thanks again
  7. Boy all this talk about the older Eclipse Aluminums (I have an 8122.4) and the round solos(currently have 3 12"'s sitting in my basement, 2 8-ohms and 1 4-ohm) is making me reconsider my decision to potentially go a new direction with maybe an RLi-10. TC-7 10 or TC-1000 10. If only any of my afformentioned subs were able to provide the 2 ohm load that my new amp (PPI Pro-650) requires to provide 400 watts at the sub channel.

    Eclipse Aluminum 8122 box size

when you mention port area you are in fact referring to just area(in^2 as opposed to volume(in^3) correct? I still need to do a little research on how to determine port size based on a tuning freq. I posted a question similar to this on another message board and was told a specific port area to shoot for. Is the area of the port more important than the overall volume? thanks again
  9. can anyone give me a recommendation for a ported enclosure for an Eclipse 8122. I can not find the spec sheet anywhere and Eclipse has been pretty much useless. right now it is in a sealed enclosure (~1.25 ft^3) running off a PPI PC2150(600x1 @4ohms). I am trying to squeeze a little more sound out of this woofer if possible. I listen to a wide range in music, (not sure how that would affect the desired tuning frequency.) thanks for the help

    RL-P, what to expect???

I just wanted to thank you guys for all your comments on the sub. Since I started this thread I have actually been able to replace my round solo with another for the time being. I still have plans to purchase something new this summer. From most comments it sounds like ported is the way to go. I admit I have never ran a sub ported so this is new territory for me. Can clean, tight bass still be achieved in a ported setup? I have no intentions to compete, I jsut want to be able to enjoy my stereo system. Consider my amp(PPI PC2150 600x1 @4) would the ported enclosure be a better option. I have always stuck with sealed because as important as a good sounding system has been to me I have always been concerned with retaining as much trunck space as possible(and keeping access to the spare). I guess the easiest way for me to tell what box I like better is to build one of each and drop it in the trunk and see. Thanks again for all the help!

    RL-P, what to expect???

Thanks for all the input guys, this basically mirors what was said over at caraudio.com as well. Considering the 600 watts or so that I will be sending it what size enclosure should I build? I was reading the spec sheet and it mentions sealed enclosures ranging between .75 - 1.5 ft^3. In a perfect world I could add another 3/4 baffle to the box I just made for my solo(~.75 FT^3) to account for the greater mounting depth of the RL-P and I would be done with it. But things typically are not that easy and I do not want to risk blowing this one. Thanks again.

    RL-P, what to expect???

First time poster here with a question about the RL-P. I have entered the market to find a new sub after a nuked my old school round solo(12 inch D series, had it less than a week bought it brand new never used). I was floating around the caraudio.com forums and saw many people talking up the sound splinter product(I created a similar post to this over there today and all repsonse have been very positive) so I checked out the web site and came away impressed, yet looking for more info. Basically I just wanted to get some opinions as to how this speaker compares to my solobaric. I went with the solo because I loved the small sealed box design. I want my system to sound good but don't want to lose all of my trunk space. As for power I have a PPI PC2150, which is rated at 600 x 1 @4 ohms but I have heard that it may put out more than that. I am looking to once again go with a single 12 setup. While searching I have come across the obvious names W6, W7, Type R, L7's and have been able to listen to them all. I liked the JL's but the cost is just too much. I have also done some research into the ID MAX's as well but even they are some what highly priced. Any info you guys can provide would be great. thanks again
