    thank you!

the website wont let me upload a photo but I have a box design from a website and I'm not sure if I should trust it. if anyone could tell me if re audio box calculator is good id be greatly appreciated but here are the specs it gave me. box bottom plate: 35x35 box top plate: 35x35 box left plate: 34.25 x 13.5 x 34.25 x 13.5 box right plate: 33.5 x 13.5 x 33.5 x 13.5 box front plate: 27.25 x 13.5 port L1:26.5 x 13.5 x 26.5 x 13.5 and said its tuned to 28hz.

It will get you in the ballpark, but is not completely accurate, and it doesn't take into consideration displacement after subs or bracing, which will make your net volume go down and tuning go up.

If you sign up for a site like Imgur or Photobucket, you can link the picture and it will show up here.

Also GCON is out of stock at the moment. I most likely will wait until they are back (am not in a rush...yet lol) but heard great things about Fi SSD. Is that a good alternative?

I was also recommended the IA Lethal Injection by Aaron at SSA in lieu of the GCON. Any experience with that sub sealed?

Seems I can wire a dual 1ohm subwoofer (Fi SSD) to my amp to get a 2 ohm 1000rms load - is this correct?

I had a set of Lethal Injection 12's a few years back, but were ran in a smallish ported enclosure (3.6 cubes @ 37) - I listen to mostly rock/metal. Nothing bad to say about them. Just before I parted with them I put them on a BC3500 @ 1 ohm and they took it like a champ.

But I vote GCon as well.

Yes, a dual 1 ohm sub can be wired in series to present a 2 ohm final load to your amplifier.

  3. I understand that things are almost always "build, test, tear down, build, test; nothing works the same for everyone," but I'm wondering what others' experiences are with sub and port placement/alignment in a small Suv?

    1) Would it be better to have the port rear firing into the hatch; or have the port firing up, parallel to and right up against the hatch? Assuming both enclosures take up the entire cargo area just under the window line and same external dimensions. Thinking that firing into the hatch would create more unwanted rattle, which could possibly hurt output(not to mention, sound like ass)?

    2) Slot port running the width of the box, along the floor, vs a square or round port, centered? Why?

    3) Would it make any noticable difference having the subs closer to the front or rear of the vehicle, in either port configuration in (1)? I would think they would load better closer to the rear hatch, granting more spl?

  4. After some listening with the SQ 7K(Love the amp - except for the LOUD fan), I think I've reached the limits of my current enclosure(small-medium tapered transmission line). While it hasn't gone up in SPL number wise, it sounds much better and smoother over the entire frequency range. Currently peaks at 144.5 between 41-43 and slowly tapers off above and below, I'll have to do a frequency response sweep before I pull everything out.

I believe I'm close to hitting the thermal limits with this setup as well, as I've noticed faint coil smell at almost full tilt(dropping to no lower than 13.5v and no clip indicator light - though I know that's not accurate either).

Debating on moving up to 4 15" XCon's in a C-Pillar wall.. Kind of want to do 6th, but may stick with a simple ported enclosure. I'll try to get everything measured tomorrow to see what kind of space I actually have.

Any thoughts, ideas, suggestions, or anything I should be aware of before I start?

    Current ported idea:

Hmm. Thanks for the info. I'll wait until more YouTube people uses it. I wasn't aware of the overheating+battery problem.

The only person I've seen that uses is EXOcontralto but he doesn't use it in every video. If I had this expensive thing, I'd probably use it in every YouTube video.

Not sure if you're referring to the meter or the phone, but to clarify.. the APM-2 meter itself does not have those issues, the phone you were looking at does.

Will the APM 2 work on an ASUS Zenfone 2? I've seen these go on sale for $350 on Black Friday. Do these go on sale during other holidays?

    Thanks!

As an Android OS with bluetooth, it should work just fine.

Definitely do some reading up on the phone though, seems like a large number of people have bluetooth/wifi/overheating/battery issues.

You said it originally to me in a pm that disappeared when the site had to be rebuilt.

I had the quote in my signature for years.

I remember reading that way back when, I went scouring for that quote right before I bought my XCONs a year ago.. POOF! No trace. :(

  8. I run XCON's and love them, but have not owned or heard ICONS. (I've owned DCONS as well though)

From my understanding, you will not lose sound quality, but the XCON has a heavier bottom end and gobbles up power.
For your application, if I were in your situation, I would probably go ICON - unless you were planning on upgrading in the near future, and wanted a sub that would grow with you.

Uh, so why has the Evil 12" been up for sale, with a 21+ business day ship date for months, then a week or so ago we see a post "evil 12 finally coming soon" and in this thread it was said there was still some things to work out? That's what led me to assume they where pre-order, that and someone else said "setting here about to preorder and this pops up" in reference to the evil post, and no one corrected him. And I'm not trying to slander anyone, just sharing my observations, like with Fi. I even said I didn't try and call they may have picked right up. But I assure you in November and December nobody was answering email's. And also the guys who said they waited 6 months had ordered sundown subs from SSA, not SSA subs guess I should have specified that. They said they where told the parts where being held up in port.  So can you see how someone not knowing the guys personally would believe this all adds up to Pre-order. Actually know for a fact a few places are doing just that one is EMF but at least he tells you up front "no ship date just give me your money and I will get it to you as soon as it's built, if it can be built." Just seemed like the same deal to me maybe I misunderstood or read it wrong.

Thread necro. Check the timestamps. Double check and verify your sources before adding misleading information please, especially when it's derailing another topic.

Our much anticipated 12" version of the EVIL is due to arrive very soon.  We have a few on order to photograph for the store, and there are a few more details to work out on them, but you should see them in the store soon!

I had a Challenger and LOVED the car, but that trunk was a black hole for bass.  The deck lid and thick, comfy seats seemed to absorb and restrict all the sound.  I miss the car, but the PITA it was trying to get bass in a coupe.

    • I have experienced the same thing thing in this dodge. The entire system came out of a 2004 dodge stratus R/T 2 door, and it was considerably louder in the stratus.  That's why I figured I would get a ported box. The sealed pro wedge is a good looking box but a nice custom ported box will give the 13w7 the air space it needs to come alive. Also as soon as the 2015 mustang GT gets back from having its exhaust put on I will post up some picks of the sundown teams.

Helped a friend pick out gear last spring for a '13 Avenger 4 door(trunk, fold down seats), ran into this issue as well. :( I tried talking him into letting me build the box in the trunk, firing forward and sealed off but no go. We settled on 4.5 cu/ft @32 hz for two ZCon 12's (subs up, port to the side) on a single SQ 2200 (until he finishes upgrading his electrical, then it will be two, strapped) and it's quieter than my two XCon's on a SQ 1200, but still clean and precise. :( Going to try a different box here soon. Any specific strategies you've used to combat 'Dodge Bass'?

Also, I'm not much for Mustangs.. but that's nice.

Thanks for the reply m5 I had even considered using a 12  wasnt sure about it being able to keep up with the music as good as tens and the mounting depth I still have a sar 1242d but mounting depth would be a stretch. Any suggestion on what sub to use I had never even heard of the subs in the ssa store till I stumbled across this website only considered the alpine because I have used 1 before I'm always open to trying something new .   Thanks again

Subs nowadays have come a long ways. The biggest contributing factor back then was higher moving mass combined with weak motors and loose suspensions. A lot of "modern" large subs have no problems keeping up. I listen to 90% hard rock/heavy metal/classic rock and my 2 15" SSA Xcons keep up just as well if not better than any of the 10's I used to run back in the day. Keep in mind that the box is a big factor as well.

Nice tweeter setup. Personally, I'd leave it where it is Similar to where mine is).

It's hard to drive and tune at the same time. You need to be very relaxed and focused. Can't do that and drive too. Just Saying

Also, maybe I missed it, but get you midrange / midbass up as running. Then tune (like Sean said, with the sub bass off). This will help with music detail.

Keep it up brother, I'm tuned in !!!

Midrange is running, but that needs to be tweaked too. Which reminds me, I picked up a set of Speaker Tweakers that I need to put in yet, if I can remember where I put them..

I don't do much, if any, tuning while driving. I spent a little over half hour with the initial setup/tuning before I took off. :)

    Thank you!

What are you on about now? Obviously I was talking about a taller pulley with a greater circumference in my first comment, and I only mentioned wider in the second. He understood what I was saying. Some of us have enough common sense to process what other are telling us.

Please read M5's signature, then read it again.
