    Xcon tuned to 35hz

it will sound fine, its just a matter of taste at that point. My 2 XCON 18s are at 33hz and i love it but dont think it would make that great of a difference going to 35 (although it probably will be audible and easy to tell the difference once you get to around 38hz or so)
  4. hmm touche very good point my friend lol how about this week? ill shoot you a pm!
  5. Hmm, I dont know if that was directed at me or the OP either way I dont care (and the following isnt directed to anyone in particular, to all in general). I've ran plenty of amps from mainstream to non, actually know how they work (beyond the typical understanding), and what goes into making them and I know a good amp when I see one. Some up and coming companies make great high quality amps, others do not. Dont judge a book by its cover. If you actually take the time to look into some of these mainstream amps and the technology behind them you will see what I am talking about. Dont let flashy lights and a chrome plate on the amp fool you. The MTX 4kw is the size of a typical 2kw amp for one simple reason. They do not do "through-hole" component soldering. They imprint the circuitry on TOP of the board giving them the ability to condense things much better, and group certain components together. They also have probably the best cooling mechanism I've seen. They dont just slap 2 big noisy fans on the end of it. They actually direct airflow directly over the hottest components before it makes its way past almost every component. Take Rockford for example. Nobody knocks their 4kw, hell it has awesome impedance rise adjustment capabilities. But its a mainstream amp. Where do all these mainstream companies start? the same way sundown, RE, hifonics, SSA, FI, etc. etc. etc. get started. So do you expect them to get to a large size then just shut themselves down because they are mainstream? Mainstream companies do one of 2 things: Fall off the ball and make crap products and try to let their name coast them by as long as possible before they eventually shut down. Or they continue to produce and push the market into better technology. And ask yourself, which mainstream company that is still huge makes total crap product? Almost none because they wont last. Some may have changed their vision and turned to producing more higher quality or SQ subs but its still high quality. Just because something looks simple and "hardcore" does not mean it is. I have a notebook of amp clamping results that back that claim up. Cheers! :drink40:
  6. Got some 24s! Putting them on either tomorrow or Tuesday!
  7. look in the thunder elite series by MTX, they are all CEA certified, and do more than rated. I have the 4kw and its an incredible amp!

First aero port. need help. *PIX

well to calculate cubic air space, multiply the inner dimensions together (WxHxL) and divide by 1728 (number of cubic inches in one cubic foot, then just use common box calculators and enter your internal air space, port size and tuning and it will tell you the port length the dimensions you have so far give 4.65 ft^3 search function is a powerful tool btw

tuning 2 18s btls with round ports

oh well this dude has 2 18s bls and his box is at 15.4cf and his tubes are 23.something and hes at 30hz, i have my btls on a 11cf box at 34 but i want mines to move air like his... that is really impressive, with 2 10" tubes youre port area is 157 sq. in, on my 2 18s i run slot ports and get about 159 sq in with 3" slot ports, either way should be good! that setup obviously moves air!
  10. ive had Goliaths, Memphis 4kws, Hercules, to name a few, and so far my favorite is my MTX 4kW. I havnt clamped it yet to get the numbers on it but the technology in it is amazing! Its the size of a 2kw amp because it doesnt use typical "through hole" solder techniques, it prints the circuits saving a lot of space, the cooling on it is incredible, (the color changing lights are pretty neat too) and the easy access controls on the front and great. check out the video at the bottom of the page http://www.mtx.com/caraudio/products/amplifiers/indexTE.cfm

hmm, less than 20" isnt as long as i expected

tuning 2 18s btls with round ports

well youre gunna need to make them very long if you want 32hz out of 10" tubes, when you find youre airspace just find the interneal space of the box and subtract the volume of the tubes, but i wouldnt go with 10" IMO, multiple 4" and 6" will do fine, go to any online calculator and type in 10" round port and 32 hz and it will be crazy long. For two 18's I'd go with a slot port to get the port area you need but if you really want the round ports then try the 6" ports hope that helps!
  13. new roads, out in the sticks also. lol haha cool deal nice to see some fellow cajuns on SSA
  14. where r u at in louisiana btw? im in denham springs
  15. the only way to really stiffen thin pieces like that is too add probably a minimum 2 or 3 layers
  16. from an engineering standpoint, simply using mass to dampen an area is not ideal, bracing is. but in order to do that you would have to screw into your roof, so either way it will not look very good (but bracing would look better than a ton of sound dampener) also peel n seal is not good, its extremely cheap for a reason and will simply add weight and possibly nasty chemicals to your car (i.e. roofing tar lol)

    Opinions on a laptop

TOSHIBA SATELLITE. ive had mine for 5 years and still running strong as when i fist bought it. Wow really? Im about to toss mine. Had it only 3 years and the battery went to crap, screen began to develop dead pixels lines, overall typical windows slow, overall piece of junk, literally fell apart and i barely used it. I would personally steer very far away from Toshiba but thats just my $0.02 good luck finding a laptop!

Welcome to SSA! The ICON would be a great sub for your choice. Even comparing the ICON and Alpine Type-R doesn't work, its like comparing a Harley to a Moped. The ICON is a great all-around driver and 1000w would power it perfectly. You will be MUCH happier with even a DCON over a Type-R for your application. Ask around and you will quickly find that the ICON is an amazing sub thats superior in sound quality, control, quality parts, and loudness. Enjoy the site and community!
