  1. So what are you actually asking here? This is a great detail post, but, what answers are you looking for pacifically.

Are you asking if the route you took is better than others, because obviously thats an person to person question and is totally subjective to each individual based on preferences. I don't believe that you will find an scientifically proven better method of speaker placement. Its just that the common community is not used to your method which would explain the harsh comments going against your ways.

No questions Sencheezy, just me saying why I did what I did, I am very happy with it... I still hope to bring it to a comp or two someday :)

Posting pictures of really crappily located speakers in order to justify your own system design is a logical fallacy. Just because some other people have done stupid things too, doesn't make stupid ideas more valid.

"If everyone jumped off a bridge, would you?"

That said, I don't see the point in trying to explain why I personally have issues with your current speaker layout. You won't care, it won't make any difference, not worth the effort.

If you are happy with it, more power to you. That's what matters and stop trying to justify yourself to us because, first, most of your justifications don't make much sense and second, it honestly doesn't make much of a difference to us as long as you are happy.

Do your own thing and bask in the glory of individuality.

Agreed, its your ride dude, do what you feel. If that setup works for you, more power to you. Individuality is one of the things ive always enjoyed most about car audio, lets you put your own "flair" on things.

  2. The 15's have more cone area and power handling, but the difference in cone area isn't enough to make an audibel difference. In my opinion its going to come down to your electrical. 5.5kw is a lot of power and the electrical required to support it won't be cheap. Don't get me wrong 3kw is going to need some substantial upgrades as well, but it should be less expensive than supplying enough power to push 5.5kw.

I think you would be plenty happy with the two 15s on 3kw if you're not competing. You won't hear much a difference between the 3k and 5.5k

Electrical was never an issue as ive put considerable thought into the requirements of both setups, but the single 18" would be alot easier on my electrical. Friend of mine did (2) BTL 15s on a RD D9 (5k) in his 02 Crown Vic and it was nuts.

Honestly, the single 18" is looking like the better choice due to the box requirements, id rather run the single sub off a good bit of power in its optimal box as appose to cramming the 15s in a box thats too small for them to perform like I want.

Guess the path is clear, lol. Thanks for the reply though, :)

  3. Alright, im kind of tossing the idea around between two setups in the trunk of my Crown Vic.

Setup one is (1) FI BTL N2 18" in 7 cubic feet net tuned to 32hz.

Setup two is (2) FI BTL N2 15s in 8 cubic feet net tuned to 32hz.

Here is my problem and question, the first setup with the single BTL will slide right in my trunk with no issues using the box design and cut sheet posted on this forum for it, but the second setup is the issue. Can I run the BTL 15s in a smaller box than 4 cubic feet net each and still get optimal performance? Id like to shrink the box and bump up the tuning to 34-35hz if thats possible.

3 to 3.5 cubic feet per sub would be a much easier fit for me in my car, but wasnt sure the BTLs would like a box that small daily on music.

Plans are a Crescendo 5500 for the 15s so about 2500 RMS daily, no comps just music. The single 18" would get a Audiopipe 3k @ 2 ohms.

Would I just be better with the 18" or can I go with a smaller box on the 15s?

Any input is greatly appreciated thanks.

  4. Just read the whole thing, and my head is killing me, seriously :(

Im glad your going with the BLs after they were suggested to you about a dozen times, esp after you mention your tuning. I think it will work out fine.

    Heres a 12" BL off a Nine.1

Hope things work out for you good luck.

  5. from what i have seen he cut his backseat mounts out... so he has no back rest anymore... if your gonna trash your back seat you might aswell do a wall IMO.

He still got his backseat. He just took it out. In his car, like mine and yours, its just a couple of big bolts that hold it down at the bottom, and the top slids on a set of clips at the top. I took out mine before and the bass difference was like night and day, and I was using my back up subs ( old school Polk DB 12s sealed on 800w)

But, I agree, if you going to lose the backseat, why not go all out and do a wall?

  6. You could try a 6th order.. 6th order are louder. You could use the same box that you started with and put it the chamber tought the rear deck. 6th order are fun cause that's what I run. Mine is tuned at 29 rear chamber and 45 in the front chamber with 12--10's on 3--SAZ 3000D's..It's fun letting people set in the truck. But a 6th order I have is 60 cubes. But you could try the 8's.. That would be fun to set in. The old saying go

GIRL'S LIKE IT BETTER WHEN YOU BANG IT HARDER WITH A 8 !!!!!!!

Sounds interesting, but honestly I have zero experence with a 6th order bandpass. 4th order I got a little so I understand the physics behind both types.

I cant imagine how loud that must be!!

  7. hmm or do 12 8's in a 4th order bandpass withthe port goin thru the reardeck

u will be really loud cuz all the bass will be goin in the car vs staying in the trunk

u have the room to do it...

u can u make the box a l shape..so some of the 8's are in that little space directly under the rear decku can make the sealed chamber small...and have them play in a huge common chamber..thats wats goin to make u low ass balls

    80

80, do you think I would have the room for (16) in the 4th order vented through the rear deck? Be a little easier to wire and a little more output :)

I wish I could do a wall, but GF has a 2 year old, so need the back seat for the family.

That would be really cool 80 and prob sound great. I wish I could have something like that done and be able to just channel all the output into the cabin.

I would have to take it to a really good shop to do that kind of work. I see what your saying though, can you scribble it down so I can get a better picture of your idea for the design?

  9. I have done a truck with 16-- 8's.. Man was that a fun ride. I did True Bass Ultra 8's and 4 MMats 300hc's it pulled 156.6 in the kick.. My New Project for Jacob will be 32-- 10's for this year. Power wise will be in the 24,000 to 28,000 range. But if I could go back with 8's I would man they were fun to play with. Good luck on the build I'll be watching.

I bet that was amazing. I honestly would like to do a wall with the E8s if I had the money. 32 sealed would only require 8 cubic feet net and ported would only need 19.2 cubic feet net. Though about a nice V wall sealed on (2) 3000ds would sound amazing and move quite a bit of air.

  10. there is some fool on CA that has like 6 million 10's in this lincoln towncar... have you seen his build?

Lmao, I have Jon, me and him are from the same city. His setup was what it was suppose to be, a budget groundpounder. I cant knock him too much, he payed for everything in the system what im paying for electral upgrades lol. Never got to sit in the car, but heard it coming a few times and it was loud, very loud.

Our cars have alot of potental because of the size of their trunks for some pretty serious systems, like yours ;)
