    Welcome to the IHoP v.2

Ironically, a guy at work was attacked Thursday after placing a ladder on a wasp nest. The doctor counted at least 28 stings.

You stated your amp settings were changed as well. Keep in mind the vented enclosure changes how the drivers react as well. You gain cone control in the passband, but go under that and your asking for mechanical issues quite easily. If the speaker wire was an issue, it would be hot or melting. This will only happen if the wire is too small that it causes a resistance increase akin to a bad connection. The wire will heat up and degrade though. THe only thing this will do to the subs is cause voltage drop limiting output.

Sub going off but it’s not hooked to a fuse

Do you mean your amp is shutting off? Like, you accelerate and the amp cuts out? If that's the case, it sounds as if you have a loose connection and it's exacerbated by the movement from accelerating.

The wire is NOT going to do anything. Crutchfield is good to buy stuff from, but unfortunately, their "advisors" do not know much. The 16 gauge is more than adequate. Current is relatively low. You're not going to see the damage. Think about it. The drivers stink and they're not supposed to stink. They're reaching their thermal limits and you're smelling the burning adhesive and/or coil varnish or maybe even the coil itself. I'm almost certain you're reaching mechanical limits as well. I'm guessing you're tuned right around the setpoint of the bass boost circuit on your amp, and the boost is set halfway up. This is just an assumption, but common sense is hitting you right in the nose, so make sure you take heed.

. . . . Hence why I said you could get a Vette and truck. Last Jeep I saw was over $100K.

Fuck the Jeep. For that money, you can have the Vette AND a new pickup.

YOu missed the vented part didn't you. Unfortunately, just looking at the dials on the amp isn't going to give us the info we need. The smell could be harmless or it could be, and more likely IS, that you are reaching the thermal limits on the driver. It may be adhesive or the coil burning. You've likely already caused some damage as well. Given the fact the enclosure is now vented gives the scent a straight path to your nose now, but it's also most plausibly the reason you're reaching their limits in the first place. I would be willing to bet the enclosure is tuned relatively high and you reaching past the mechanical limits as well. It would be great to know your enclosure tuning and vent size also, but we're still at a loss on the power side.

I hear you on the powersports. Makes total sense. In regards to your WIlwoods, it sounds like you're bleeding out of sequence and have air trapped. Even with the ABS pump bleeding, you can still trap air.

Do they have floats and chambers in the MCs? If so, you can never get all the old fluid and debris out. This is the case with most modern automotive MCs. I'm guessing the one's on the powersports are different given they are not power assist and relatively compact. Even then, there's no guarantee you're getting it as clean as you would if you were using good old gravity to assist.

    Any Opinion on Hi-Vi D630 3-way ?

Nope, but I have a couple Hi-VI mids and ribbon tweeters and they're all fabulous!

    Most efficient subwoofer available?

They did not last more than a few years and are nearly impossible to find. They needed a minimum of 3 cubes and they were stupid big to begin with, so it necessitated an obscenely large (dimension wise) enclosure. They WERE upwards of 3% efficient though and damn were they smooth!
  22. You won't damage anything. You'll likely get some cancellation and/or some odd harmonics, especially if they're in different enclosures.
  23. You're best off selling the W6 and getting another W3 and running them all in parallel. The mixing of drivers will work, but it will be far from optimal, and likely induce more problems. If you're absolutely stuck on this setup, you simply wire all the coils in parallel. You have FOUR 4-ohm coils. A parallel wire nets 1-ohm.

If it's PVC pipe, you'll be fine until you get close to 250F.

The only things I was interested in was the Maggies. I don't recall what else he had other than a servo sub.
