hey guys, I have recently purchased a 2006 subaru legacy 2.5i. my previous car i had 2 12 inch gcons on a sundown 1500 amp, a 6 cubic foot box that i sealed into the cabin. was wondering what would be effected if i were to seal the box instead of port it and still reverse the subs facing the cabin. so run a 3 cubic foot box sealed off from the trunk with the subs facing the cabin. i just am wondering if this would work. or if it would sound like shit. haha. i have the box designed to fit into the trunk so i can seal it off. I am trying to save space (i snowboard in the winter) roof racks can only carry boards. id have more than half the trunk left with the box ive designed. but im still trying to figure out the electrical. was looking at the mechman 105high output alt for the engine and a dc 2700 (i think). maybe switching my amp to a rockford 1000 that apparently draws less power off the electrical (we'll see). i would take any advice given as long as you dont lead me in the wrong direction haha. if M5 or any of the vets read this, Ill answer whatever questions you have. correctly. thanks guys.

optimal being ported sounds the best? i love the way it sounded when i had it set up with the port. i just cant come to terms with a box that big in a smaller trunk. what i mean by that is i dont want the subs to sound like their trapped inside of a shell or something being that they are so close to the back seat.

ok so to explain it best i am going to attach pictures of my old system setup.not sure how the pics are going to show up on the message so bare with me. so i would like to do something similar to this but in a sealed box manner, same idea with the subs facing the back of the back seat. Just wondering if it will work. am thinking 3ft^3 1.5 cubes per 12"gcon. I am just wondering weather or not the fact that there is a port guiding the air into the cabin is the only way in which the subs air will travel ( ie... i dont want to have to have the rear seats down all the time.)
  5. if you can find a used one for sale, get a sundown 1500d, I have 2 12" gcons as well and it works great.

    HID sugguestions

I cant say for sure but I think it could work, As long as the ballasts put out the same wattage that the bulb requires then there shouldn't be an issue. I just had to have 2 ballasts replaces under warranty and they sent me the same voltage ballasts for both my low beam and fog light.

    HID sugguestions

i believe its the voltage that the bulb receives from the ballast

I have A full set of Xenon headlights, and they are amazing, especially in the rain and winter time. They were 80 per kit (a little above your price range but worth the 15 dollars to me!) here's the link: http://www.xenonheadlights.net/

    decision on subs

Hey guys, I am starting to save up some money to put into a system for my car and I am trying to decide on subs. Ive never had a big power setup before but I wanted to take a shot at it. My car is a 2002 hyundai XG350L. I want to do the setup to either have the port going thorugh a skipass or ported through the rear deck. I want to seal the box from the trunk to maximize potential. My original thoughts were to go with 2 12" xcons. But now that I've been starting to shop around im thinking that a single 15 might work better. Im really having a tough time deciding because 12's and a single 15" xcon would both be good setups. I know that there is a major power difference between the two setups and that there is more cone space with 2 12's, I just want to know if a single 15 will play loud and low but still sound good. I am looking for chestpounding bass but good sound quality as well. I know that the xcon has potential to do so, but would 2 12's get as low? may be worded weirdly im half asleep writing this. lemme know what you think and if theres any questions just ask. thanks.

    4th order build continued (M5)

So a more accurate response curve can be made, and they will finally realize that snake oil and fairy dust does not make an enclosure sound good. They are winning competitions, not really needing to know if their design works or sounds good, and you are wanting to know what brand of snake oil and fairy dust they used ??? You docked me 2 rep points and this is all you can come up with Duran ??? Sounds like you are the one trying to discredit their build ... not M5 ... I didn't vote anything down, I most certainly cannot vote you down twice either. you personally giving duran shit, I hope they ban you. It's what you want anyways. EDIT: Didnt mean to point that banning comment at you, reread the comments and saw it was someone else, didnt mean to be a dick. I just dont think that you should comment to the people that run this forum like that. You got to understand something bro ... Me and Duran has had plenty of discussions before and came up with great conclusions every time ... You've got alot more reading to do bro, not just on this forum ... I do not have anything against Duran, His post are very logical, professional, and clear to understand ...and this is why I questioned him on this one ... This set of post you quoted me on here has been corrected, Don' worry about it bro ... Yeah I know I probably have more reading to do, I am on here for about 4 hours a day going through updated posts and what not. I just feel like this topic really should end because all its doing is ripping apart this forum. I chose to use this forum because everyone on here seems to be here because every other forum sucks ass. This was the one that got filtered out as a great forum in my mind. I am not worried I'm sure you and duran have worked it out. I am here to gain knowledge not argue. I hope that it can continue that way.

first off I have read many of M5's posts and to me its all intelligent criticism, you could call it being arrogant or douchebagish, but that just how some people give advise. Your commanding officer can be an ass all the time, yet hes the one thats going to keep you alive when you need it most. About the credentials, what I was trying to say is that, I could tell you that I own a shop, I'm a master MECP certified technician, won sooo many competitions and awards, but how is one to know what is truth and what isn't. credentials don't mean shit, especially on the web, so stop asking for them. what m5 and the others supporting him want are testing to disprove them. Not just saying that its a great sounding vehicle and it shakes the shit out of your chest. All it is is criticism, if you don't like it then shut up and keep doing what your doing. If you want to challenge it then by all means do the testing and see who's right. And if someone says that the physics state differently then you know that you have your proof that their wrong. You act as though criticism is the worst thing in the world, if I took every piece of criticism I've ever received to heart, I would have put a bullet in my brain already. I have seen no proof from your side as to why he is wrong other than a few lousy statements regarding the sound. I'm not saying that m5 is exempt, he may very well be lieing, but until I and the rest of the SSA community see proof or an explanation including all the evidence that he is wrong, nothing more can be said.

    4th order build continued (M5)

Just read through this whole thread, all 10 pages. All that I can see is a bunch of guys ganging up on the moderaters of the website that we all use and appreciate. Just because someone has questioned your abilities doesnt mean you have to retailiate with arseho comments and yet to be proven success(true SQ, not just "I sat in the car and it sounds awesome" that doesn't mean its accurate). It was stated that ///M5 was trying to tell you that the design could use some changes, and you took that strait to your heart. Grow up, learn how to take criticism and use it to improve your ideas. Obviously if M5 has been appointed a moderator and tech team member on this website, his credibility should not be questioned. I'm sure if you wanted to be appointed in that position, you would need to show some credibility too. But credibility on the internet means nothing, people spit lies out there fingertips all the time. He's the first person to question your abilities and all you do it get offensive and show no real proof that he's wrong. You keep saying he's sidestepping your questions, when in reality, hes trying to get you to understand that, he doesnt need to show credibility, he wants real proof. And all you seem to do is sidestep his requests. Run the sweep of tones and it will put this stupid argument to rest.

    Proper Box design?

Hey guys, I'm starting to design my system that I'm going to be putting together this summer. I wanted subs that have """SQL""" type features, which is why I'm thinking the 12" xcons are the best way to go. The box design I have come up with is going to go in my 2002 Hyundai XG350L. I am going to seal it off from the trunk, and have the port coming through where the backseat center armrest folds down. sort of a skipass type thing. I believe that I will be running either a SAZ-3500 or an AQ3500 but I will make the decision when its time to purchase. Let me know what you guys think, weather or not it will work. I don't know if I should put 45's in or not and weather or not the port will work. Thanks for the help!

    Proper Box design?

so I figured I'd give you guys an idea as to what im saying its gonna be like, The picture shows the box coming through what would be a made pass through in the back seats where the center armrest folds down. so if you can just imagine the seatback extending off of the trim piece around the port. the piece thats attached to the pass through is where my carputers gonna be housed. In the part thats open faced. The box will be sealed off on the edges from the trunk(sealing it off from cabin) I want no trunk rattle haha. Im thinkin I might do something like clear plexi glass so that you can see the computer guts, throw some l.e.d. lighting in there for cool looks.

    Proper Box design?

Thats one thing that I was wondering if it was gonna work out all right, I wanted to seal everything off besides the port which will be put through a seat pass through. I don't know if there is going to be cancellation problems with the seats being up? Thats one thing I was looking to someone with more experience.

    Proper Box design?

did a little bit more editing, this is what i would consider a final design. I added some space because of the added bracing, box is tuned to 33hz with an f3 of 29.06hz.

    Proper Box design?

how would this work? you think ill have to change the port dimensions because of the added space taken up?
