  1. If you havent had any issues with just setting by ear then dont worry about it. And even if you had any issues the product wouldnt help any. If you were set on using tones to adjust your amps i would say a dso nano for half the cost of the dd-1

    Ethos 12 wit dat A$$

As soon as I get 50 of the Ethos sold Ill place an order for the 3,500 watt. It'll be the same motor as the Ethos but will be gapped for a 8 layer coil. It'll basically be an Ethos times two. The 3,500 watt version will be in the neighborhood of $450-500 shipped due to the bigger coil and heaftier suspension and extra leads.Alright, i may decide to run a crescendo 5500 on a pair of 12s and if i go that route then your 3500 rms subs will be at the top of my list.

Also, i noticed you had mentioned a 3500 rms sub, when do you think you will be doing anything with that?

    Ethos 12 wit dat A$$

If you decide to buy them and are not impressed by the performance to price ratio I'll do a complete refund and pay for the return shipping within 30 days as long as there aren't any physical damage to the driver. I'll stand behind the fact that there is nothing that compares at its price.Thats a great offer, although, im sure i wouldnt be returning them lol.

Alright, cool. As of right now i am just getting some ideas of which subs to go with and i have three different sub choices, one being your ethos. Althougj, i will not be upgrading for a while so i can wait on the specs. Also, i have been following what big jon has to say about them

    Subwoofer / Port 'Loading'

My car the sub an port are rather close to the hatch/roof. I have my enclosure tuned to 36 and still am able to play down to 27hz with no issues. Just depends on the aligbment and vehicle acoustics.

Meh, just peoples opinions. I just try not to have my stuff loud in neighborhoods.

What makes a car a groundpounder?

I have been tempted to get into my car and follow people like that to their house and sit outside and annoy them with my sustem, although, all that would do is the same thing as what they are doing, so i decided not to.

WHY LARGE SIGNAL PARAMETERS, NOT SMALL

Minus environmental acoustical gain, yesI thought i had read that in the loud speaker cookbook but was not for sure. So why do subwofer companies not do large signal parameters instead? The good ones do small, large and A LOT more. Then others for instance don't even know what t or s are. Kevin for instance.Just refreshing IMO to see someone who is offering a driver bring up discussion points that are not only relevant, but show that hiding information is not the protocol of the business. Definitely gives me a lot more confidence in doing business with Quentin. Yes, it is nice to see and makes it more likely that ill buy some of his products in the future.

So what about compared to the real life counterpart? Do the subs react similar as the large signal parameters show in winisd?

    Sub Noise Help

i was thinking that just now, and that makes since, thank youNo problem. Search around and see if you can find a song that has the same frequency and play it and see if you still get a weird noise.

    Sub Noise Help

There is a song or two of decafs that hits 26hz and they sound weird on my system. Other songs that i have that go that low do not sound strange at all. I think its just that song and whatever decaf did to it.
  20. Bummer, you have to be confused completely. That site is full of bullshit. Sorry Rofl. I see what you did there. Actually, I'm learning quite a bit and I honestly appreciate it. I don't plan on running any competitions or having a big dick contest, I just find value in promoting a brand such as Fi, regardless of the made in America part. I still enjoy the market and I think more people can benefit from the knowledge on this forum and from the workers at Fi like Nick, who takes the time to respond to customer inquires, no matter how juvenile the question.I moved my amp today, drilled it into the back of my fold down back seat so I can easily adjust the gain and monitor it's temps. It was hot, but not hot enough to burn me or make me pull my hand away. I need to get familiar with my equipment so I know what is acceptable heat wise. It should get better ambient cooling being in the cabin now as well. I have not yet adjusted the gain. I think I'm going to play my deepest bass song, adjust at my preferred listening volume and monitor temps over a few hours to see where I'm at. I've used this method on tens of subs before the DD-1 and only ever blew a pair of Visonik's back when I was 15. My last question, my head unit has 2 subwoofer options. One appears to be the general subwoofer level, which is +6. And then there's another subwoofer option in another setting where I have it at +6 as well. Should I just make both of these 0 and adjust gain only? Does the EQ crossover options such as vocal or xplod affect the woofer? One of the frequencies in the curve is 65Hz or so, but is that only for the mids/highs? Thanks again everyone. Zero everything. No bass boost, do not EQ to the + side, always attenuate (dial the EQ down). You claimed you were clipping the HU at 47 out of 50 and you have the sub outs dialed to +6? Bullshit. Not bullshit on you, but it is proof that the DD1 is a complete pile of shit. Not only that, but there is no way in hell an Xplod unit is clean to 94% of it's total output at 0... no way in hell. How is that proof that the dd-1 is shit? All having the sub level up on the ead unit is going to do is cause the amps gain to be set lower.
  21. If you are set on using tones to set your amp then get a cheap oscilliscope like a dso nano. About the only way to have little to no clipping ever would be to set your amp with a tone somewhere from 0 to -4. You wont get the most out of your amp though. No matter what you do you have to still listen, hear, and smell and make sure your equipment is not under stress.
  22. Yea, a few months after i had my dd-1 i did research and learned. Ever since then the whole thing in that manual that relates to -5 db being for sq and so on is very asinine. Even a lot of those unaltered songs can still clip with that -10 tone. A quick break down for you is that, on tones, usually the rms value is half power of the peak. So a -5 tones rms would be -8 rms, a -10 tones rms would be -13 and so on. Although, on music its usually way less, so a song with a peak of -2 could have an rms of -7 to -12, usually but not always true.
  23. You are still most likely going to have soft clipping on that tone with using the dd-1. Also, you still have to pay attention. And what do you consider standard music? I know of plenty of songs that will be severly clipped when using a -10 tone.

    DD-1 testing

i purchased a dd-1 years ago and recently i purchased a dso nano oscilloscope, for half the price of the dd-1, and decided to do a little testing... I used them both on both of my amps and this is what i got on both amps. clearly the dd-1 shows that there is no "distortion" yet there is some soft clipping, which can be seen much easier from the picture i took closer. i did not have to turn the gain down much more to get a round wave. so, my conclusion is that if people want to set their gains with tones than they should save some money and just buy a dso nano.
