    05 Trailblazer 1 day build

Alright. This is for a friends truck. She had a completely blown stock system. She was very specific in what she wanted, and I went about putting it together for her. I wanted to post pics as I went but didn't have time for that. I got side tracked and didn't get to take as many pics as I wanted. Head unit- Alpine CDE-HD148BT. I have a pic of it installed, but now can't find it. Really nice head unit. And it changes colors which she was very excited about lol. Sub- Dcon 10" from Sean. Great deal on a brand new in box unit. I've been sick all week and didn't start the enclosure til last night. It isn't finished yet, I didn't think the neighbors would be very happy about power tools after midnight. For now, I put in my old SA-8. It is .7 cf3 tuned at 37hz. Just so she would have something for now. Amp- PPI 900.5. On back order. Didn't find out until the last minute. For now using one of my old Alpine 5 channel Front stage- PPI PC-2.65c One of the few component sets I've heard that I liked. I would have preferred to use some SLS and some large format tweeters active, but couldn't go that route. They work well due to the neo motor and semi shallow depth. Have 2" VC which is pretty big on some 6.5's. On the spendy side though. Rear- Nada Sound deadener- The new Kno Knoise stuff. I would have preferred SDS but I never could get in touch with Don. Sent a couple emails and called and left messages. Nothing. This stuff seems pretty decent but not quite the same level. It does the job. Also used some MLV that I had to seal off the doors. I think that's everything. Pics coming.

Here are the door panels. Lot more than I'm used to working with but still a little limited on depth due to the giant window. Most things will work but some large 7"+ isn't going to happen without modifications to the door panel which I could not do. This is the stock pod removed. Not that exciting. Was not going to modify and use some crappy plastic pods. Made my own out of 3/4 birch. Kno Knoise Kinstalled. It's decent.

    W140 / S DeYoung

Bought a Dcon 10 from him. Was as described, packaged well, shipped fast and provided tracking number right away. Great communication, would definitely do business with again. Edit: spellzz

Hey I'm still sick and still medicated. Don't listen to what I say, listen to what I mean. lol
  5. I am building a full system for a friend in her trailblazer and need a little guidance to make sure I'm on the right path. She listens to 90% country music and about 10% classic rock. She likes loud but nothing over the top. I pretty well have the front stage sorted. Deleting rear speakers. Have a pretty head unit picked out lol. Front stage amp is done. Which leaves me with the sub and enclosure. Previous set up she had was a single 10" kicker comp in a sealed enclosure on 300 watts in a trunk. What she did not like about it was the output was a little weak and it lacked the tight impact she was looking for. Her requirements are small footprint and $150 or less. I can probably get away with around 2-2.5 ft3 gross. But the smaller the better. I am considering a 10 or 12 Dcon. I am not sure if sealed or ported would be the way to go. I don't have any listening experience with the Dcon or listen to much country music to know what would be better suited. I'm open to suggestions if you think something else would be better suited. It will be powered by 500w or so. Thanks!

    IAK needs an "IHOP"

I'm glad to hear it is down but dang! 200 points ABOVE high risk? What was it before?
  7. Well.... ok. Feeling a little better. Looks like it will work. Gonna draw in sketch up tomorrow to make sure everything is solid. Might post a quickie build log, although everything going in one day it will probably be after the fact lol. Did find out last minute the PPI amp is on back order. So in the meantime I'm going to give her my old V -12 Alpine til we can get it in or replaced if it will be forever.
  8. Ok. I've had the flu for the past 2 days. Looks like the Dcon showed up at work today. I have a design for the enclosure and would like a 2nd look. Double check my measurements and overall design. I totally don't feel like drawing it in sketch up which is how I like to make sure everything lines up and all physically works. I'm still fairly light headed and sitting at the desk as long as it takes me to draw isn't happening. Anyway this is where I'm at. She wants a minimal footprint and would like for the extra dimensions in height if needed. I came up with 18h 15w 14.5d port is 13x1.5 26l front firing woofer side fire slot. With my fuzzy brain and looking out of one bloodshot eye I believe that works out to around 1.2 cft and about 37hz tuning with EC If someone would be so kind to make sure this all comes out ok and the design is solid I can try to start building tomorrow if I'm feeling better. Thanks!

    Chop"s 86' Cutlass

Keep on keeping on. My dad used to say that. I haven't heard anyone say that in a long time. Sorry to hear about the door panels. Best luck having it done for slam. Mine probably won't be started by then. Waiting for my garage addition so I have room to work.

Best way to seal off this trunk.

About spl or daily? He said somewhere it is daily but may compete at some point.

Best way to seal off this trunk.

Pool noodles! Lol It all depends on how much effort you want to put into it really. If you wanted to compete or just hang out there is a comp in etown once a month. Edit: I googled it and it says danville to freeman park is 70 miles and a little under 1.5hrs. Or less if you drive fast haha
  13. Always put the voltmeter at the amps. You could have a problem and have a large voltage drop and if you are measuring at the source you wouldn't see it. Buddy smoked an amp that way. Had the meter at the battery and the fuse block terminal loosened up causing the amp to see really low voltage. If he had the meter at the amp he would have seen the problem.
  14. Wow that's a pretty big budget for a sub 2kw amp. I personally like sundown and rockford amps. There are plenty more to choose from. I usually buy a little bigger than I need for upgrades down the road and to have a little headroom. Don't think that you have to put max power to them to sound good or make them loud.. A 500w amp would still get down on those subs. Also you really aren't going to hear a "sq" difference on a mono sub amp.

Wow what happened with the door panels chop? That sucks alton. You can use tampons to dry out the cylinders. Dont ask.
  16. Bought the Dcon from Sean. In the process of designing an enclosure. It's not easy to design a tiny one anymore lol. I have plenty of space to work with I just gotta nail down something I like. The whole system will be powered by a PPI 900.5 Gonna make my best attempt to do the entire sysytem in one day. That includes sound deadner, head unit, fab front stage baffles, amp, all wiring and tuning. Hope to have the enclosure ready so I don't have to do that too lol.

2 Sundown sd2-8's in a ported box escort build

This. If you add about 4 more of them you would be doing ok.

Looks great. Which kreg jig are you using? Or do you have another brand?

    10" DCON, SoundQubed 120.4, and AudioQue 120.4

    Still have the dcon Sean?
  20. I appreciate it guys. That Dcon from Sean may be a good way to go if he still has it when she is ready. Ill make sure she can give up enough space to make it work. Also the entire old system is long gone.
  21. Physically I can fit 10 ft3 lol. I don't have exact dimensions she is willing to give up. Sounds like I want in the smallest space possible is what I get. I figured I could get away with what I said of 2-2.5 gross. But I still don't know for sure. Maybe if need be I can meet up with her this weekend and bring a roll of tape to get absolute max if I need to.

    Which port configuration?

Left design would be my choice. The only reason I say that is the right design has the port opening potentially too close to the driver which could cause unloading. Other than that the way you build the port isn't that important if everything specs the same.

Looks.real nice! I've always liked those trucks. Did you ever meter on the ported wall?

    NEM's Evilinator!!

Wow neal I can't believe I missed this. I knew you had ordered an evil and was watching for a build log but guess I was looking in the wrong spot! Enclosure came out great. You always seem to build it with just enough height to squeeze the sub in to mount it lol. Very happy to hear you are enjoying it. When I get on a pc i'll have to check out the vids.
