    Configuring a 50.4 for mids / tweets

Also, this is just a temporary arrangement. I'm rebuilding my audio processing computer which will be doing all the crossovers anyways. I just want to buy the right components to start with, plus I want to be able to pull the computer out whenever I want to work on it and still be able to listen to my tunes.

    Configuring a 50.4 for mids / tweets

I would use the subsonic because you have to choose with a switch, hpf, full, lpf. Can't do both on the same channel. But you can use the subsonic as it is separate. Check out page 5 of this manual and look at the drawing of the 50.4. You'll see what I mean. http://www.sundownaudio.com/SAX504_1004_1252.pdf -Ron
  3. Hi, I just ordered a 50x4 and will be using this to drive my mids and tweets separately. It looks like to me the best way to do this is: - connect mids to 1/2, tweets to 3/4 - for channels 1/2, set it to HPF @3000 or similar - for channels 34, set it to LPF @3000 Then, for 1/2, set the subsonic filter the the crossover point with my sub. Is this a legit use of the subsonic filter? What is the x-over slope on the subsonic? My other amp is a 125.2 bridged driving a soundsplinter rli-8. Cheers!

Any particular reason? Beefing up the front is gonna be hard. Not much space in the kickpanel area, doors take 5 1/2 without mods. I've got them damped really well. I'll see this weekend how low I can get them.

1 rli-8. Currently it's my only sub and it's firing into the cabin through the armrest hole. I was thinking that I would have it and the 15 in the car trunk. One on each side in a custom fiberglass enclosure to keep it close to the edge, facing in towards the middle. Use the rli-8 for 60Hz down to say 30-40, then the rest from the 15. My goal here is to be loud, but accurate. Sealed enclosures with plenty of power are what I'm thinking. So far on the rli-8 run by a Sundown 100.2 this has proven very effective. I just want more bass...

I'm especially interested for this as my bottom-end bass down to 20Hz or more. I've already got an rli-8 that can handle say to 40Hz, then this for the rest. I noticed on the specs for the driver, Soundsplinter says .95 ft^3 'enhanced Q.' Is this referring specifically to stuffing, or to other enhancements?

I'm interested in how small a sealed enclosure I can jam this thing into w/ a Sundown 1000D (if that's appropriate power). Put lots of stuffing to reduce Q as much as possible. I've got great EQ capabilities, and with this thing's power handling I think I may be OK to do this. Just wanted some input on how realistic I'm being. Thanks

    Two-way subwoofers?

I'm gonna do some experiments this weekend and see how low I can get the fronts. The XO I'm running is around 96dB / octave which should help me get them down to 60Hz I'm hoping... If I can get them to 60, then have my rli-8 take over for mid-bass, I can drop in good quality 12 for the bass from 35Hz or so down but with a less abrupt XO so they'll blend well. Of course once I get my DRC processing going, it'll take care of issues like blend anyways. Especially on bass it is extremely effective. Thanks for the tips guys. I'll take some pics this weekend and post 'em up. I'd love to get a 15 but not sure if I can sacrifice that kind of trunk space.

    Two-way subwoofers?

Anybody use the Pioneer shallow mount subs? Are they good or are they hype? Their 8" has a 2 1/2 inch mounting depth... Could probably jam them into some kick panels...

    Two-way subwoofers?

Wow I had no idea... I'd always heard 80Hz or so, but maybe that's become a default more out of practicality than out of reality. Well, hell, you just gave me a reason to build kick panels! haha I'll tell my wife it was your idea.

    Two-way subwoofers?

If the XOs and levels are set OK, I think I would be using the 8 for the range it's best at, then use all the power on the 12 just for the last octave or so (40-50 Hz down). Yeah thanks on the processing. It's been fun to set up. It's a hobby... so practicality isn't necessarily the issue. http://www.duffroomcorrection.com/wiki/User:Freat

    Better amp for rli-8 s4

Got the 100.2 yesterday. Dropped it in. HOLY CRAP I can't believe what I'm hearing out of an 8. Great advice guys. The Sundown amp rocks. Anyone who is on the fence about this amp should take advantage of the special. Way worth $200 shipped. Way worth the normal price as well.

    Two-way subwoofers?

As some additional info, I'm running good XOs. I've got a computer processing the audio using BruteFIR to do linear phase crossovers.

    Two-way subwoofers?

Just moving this post here from another thread... I'm currently running a Soundsplinter rli-8 (s4) driven by a Sundown 100.2. I just dropped in the Sundown last night (got it on the sale) and wow what a difference compared to the Rockford Fosgate 325.2 that I was running. Loud and culeeeen! Since this is just an 8, of course it has trouble going down low low with any real punch. Not a complaint, it's a freakin 8 and I can't believe what it is capable of. So I'd like to drop in a Soundplinter RLP D2 w/ a Sundown 1000D. Question: Will I be better off just letting the 12 do all the work, or could I get louder by running the 12 from say, 20-50Hz or so, and the 8" up to 80Hz or so? I'm not looking to get rid of the 8, but overall this will affect how I plan my layout in the car trunk and I plan to do some custom fiberglass for the enclosures. Thanks!
