4" coil option for BL Series

Up on the site Finally with a partial day off I had time to get things sorted. Extra $50 per driver and currently only in the 12", 15" and 18" sizes. We will find time in the next 2-3 weeks to sample and test out a few 10" drivers to see if it is possible... not a fan of the 10" basket geometry so we may have to do a few things to get it to work to our liking, if at all. Thanks, Scott

    btl + 4th order ??

6th order is by far the way to go... although exceedingly more complex and intolerant of errors in design. AS the higher the order of enclosure goes, it seems the room for error becomes exponentially smaller. Everything "works", just how well is why we tend towards certain types of enclosures. Thanks, Scott

    Suitable SSD12 Enclosure

That would work for the 12s sealed. Thanks, Scott

which setup would have more ouput?

4 SSD 12s in the proper enclosure would be louder (given like tuned systems). You simply can not overcome the cone area advantage vs the slight power advantage on the BTLs. The efficiency of the BTLs really doesnt come into play much. Thanks, Scott

4" coil option for BL Series

Initially no as I am so not a fan of the 10" 12 spokes geometry. I will have to find some time to play with the design and see what we can come up with in terms of gapping and other geometry changes to try and make it a stable platform. The 12 is rock solid, and 15 and 18 even more so. But the 10 is a PITA for just about everything. Thanks, Scott

4" coil option for BL Series

No luck with production and some of our plastic spacer tooling so this has been eating up all my time. Simply have not had a chance to sort the details on the BL4" options for the site. Ill try again tomorrow Thanks, Scott

    Dear Scott and Nick

We only got 3 subs made and shipped (for 2 orders today). We are still having issues with the spacer/fin cover molds and pulling clean parts. I will be working through the night to try and solve the problems and get things rolling faster than that. And I though that the CNCs were going to be the bottle neck Ill keep people posted. Thanks, Scott

    Btl update

We only ended up getting 3 of them built and shipped today (covered only 2 customer orders). We sent out the trackers for the back ordered subs. The information when tracked will change from "billing information received" with the UPS assumed delivery date to the actual delivery date and pick up details once your package has been picked up via UPS. We are still having mold issues for the basket spacers/fin caps and only pulled enough good parts to make the 3 subs in time. I will be working through the night to try and get the issues solved and have them pulling good clean parts MUCH faster than that. Thanks, Scott

    FI BTL specs clarification

That amp and sub combo would make for a very solid system. As mentioned by others, be sure to get things setup correctly with respect to the enclosure design/tuning, filter (especially subsonic) settings, gains, and power to the amp. Setting things up correctly will ensure that the subs lead a long happy life. They have no protection circuit like the other products... just the installer/user and their knowledge of their system.... to keep them safe. Thanks, Scott

    Btl n3

MECA for burps or music class? More motor strength does not equal more output in music classes. You start to reduce your peak and get a really large saddle shaped response curve for most "normal" sized enclosures. Im sure the N3 will hold its own with the other standard SPL subs out there. As for the extreme class subs (which there truly only is one other extreme class sub out there) the NSG will work for that application. The issue is this... there simply is no magic bullet sub that makes you louder for every application. While we can tailor things suspension and coil wise within a platform, it still does not give us full coverage over every situation. This does not make a sub inferior to anything else... just like a Ferrari isnt crap compared to a Peterbuilt... just that Id rather haul 40' containers with a big rig than weld a 5th wheel to a sports car. But have fun with the big rig on the track There are pics of the N3 out as well. Ill have to repost them, but they were actually the first Neo pics we posted about 4 months ago when we started the project to see if people would be interested in something that looked as odd as it does. Only changes are that the back plates are not as sculpted to reduce machine time and cost. Thanks, Scott

Are the leads integrated in between the spiders or loose off of the cone? What is the subsonic filter set to? How much excursion are you getting out of the subs? Can you post a side shot of the sub so that we can tell which model it is? Thanks, Scott

    Btl n3

Not much. The N2 is flatter through the mid band of bass and peaks just as hard as the older versions. It is a better, well rounded sub response curve wise. We have seen gains in output through the midband over the older versions... up to 2 dB. Just not a 2dB gain as a peak near tuning. This is due to the saddle shaped response curve of the original BTLs. We smoothed that one out. N3 date... I dont know. We are bogged down with machining N2s right now and until the CNC bottle neck gets solved (since we are multiple CNCs down right now , we wont start machining the N3s. We have all parts and steel... just no time. Looking to start first week of Dec. Thanks, Scott

Older versions were only D4. New versions are single coils as we are using more spiders and integrated leads. Keeping cost down to offset the advantages of those things we went to single 2 and 4 coils. I doubt many people will be using a 1 Ohm stable class D on 1 X... so we chose those coil options. Thanks, Scott

4" coil option for BL Series

Supposed to be up later today, but that will depend heavily on how much machining we get done today on the N2s. Being down some CNCs is killing us for time and forcing us to run weekends and nights right now. Thanks, Scott

    15inch memphis mojo vs fi???

If you can fit 15 cuft after port and driver and tune it to 30Hz it will make for a clean sounding system that will love to play deep. We recommend 12-16 sqin of port per cuft of enclosure... So at 180 sqin (a 40X4.5" port) the port would be 17" long. Thanks, Scott

4" coil option for BL Series

Simply because we can. The motor on the BL kind of lends itself to it. There are minimal changes to things outside of machining 4" round stock for poles and a different top plate. The other subs don't without major changes to things... making them realistically a far different sub. The BL just as easily works for 3" or 4" coils. If it makes its way to other lines, people will see once its on the site. We don't have any immediate plans for it though. Thanks, Scott

4" coil option for BL Series

Yes we do have the larger baskets and 10x4 and 10x3 spiders, but we have been using those only for Ascendant and other OEM applications. We are trying to keep the Fi and AA lines distinct... hence the reason for not bringing over the 6 spoke frames. 8x4 works well. We are getting practical mechanical limits close to the 8X3. We like how things are limiting and the whole assembly has been exceedingly durable in testing. Thanks, Scott

    15inch memphis mojo vs fi???

I cant say a Memphis 15 vs SSD18 which would be the better bet. SSDs are 800W RMS vs 1750 for the Mojo. I would not want to see an SSD powered with 1750W. A pair of SSDs WOULD be louder than the single 15 in their proper enclosures. I have no doubts on that one. SSD is a solid daily driving sub that is a huge leap up from the X series. It was our original "entry level" sub, but was very far from entry level. 3" coil, solid suspension and fairly abuse tolerant. A pair of SSD18s would be a huge improvement in output vs the single 15". But they need to be in the correct enclosure. Thanks, Scott

    15inch memphis mojo vs fi???

While definitely taking up more space than the single 15"... you will be significantly louder in the proper enclosure/tuning with the pair of SSD18s. Thanks, Scott

    Fi sub as H/T sub?

Quite a few people with BTLs in HT applications with larger prosound amps on them. Work great. As Duran mentioned, you need to tune lower for bottom octave performance. Many on HT forums tune for low teens, but realistically in many applications its just not needed. Id rather tune to 20Hz, and still be able to get into upper teens (before subsonic filter cut off) and have 3dB more output, then 14 and suffer the losses in the 20-30Hz range. Thanks, Scott

    Btl update please

BTL-N2s should start shipping on the 22nd. Ultra steep ramp up time late next week to get all the code working correct for the machines. Most of the fixtures are done, but making 1-2 pieces on a fixture is a far different thing than production at speed. Hopefully things will run smoothly and we wont have to pull shifts over the weekend. N3 will be up on the site that week and will start shipping (most likely) the week after the N2s. N1s are waiting on sample coils and finalization of their "SQishness" before we post specs and more info. Thanks, Scott

    BTL N1 Video!

onebadmonte... We definitely can do that This one had a Q coil in it and a clamped 522W going to it. We are waiting on the 2 layer coils to come in and test with. Those will most likely be the coils of choice for the N1s. If they do what I feel they should in terms of SQ, we will put those in production. Thanks, Scott
