  1. The question I have is what kind of sound are you looking for? I think the dcon is a great sub for the price/power range. When I first installed mine, I wasn't getting the sound I was looking for, but after playing around with different sub placement, I found the sweet spot in my trunk and now couldn't be happier. If you are looking for more output, especially in the lows, I feel it is unfair to compare your sa8 vented to the sealed dcon. The sealed box will give you decent output above 40 hz faster transitions with lower group delay, but not as impressive in the super lows, even with the cone area difference. However, like others have suggested, put the dcon in a ported enclosure and it should give you more than enough output in the 30-50 hz range.

    question about hushmat

I have an opportunity to get a bunch of hushmat extremely cheap from a shop wanting to clear it out. Now, my question,is it any good? Normally, it is too expensive to consider over the other brands on here, but this is a good deal. I don't want to spend the money or time if the stuff does a poor job. I only want to deaden once.

    DCON 10 enclosure depth questiong

I have been thinking about "porting" the rear deck where the 6x9 holes are to get more sound into the cabin. Wonder if that would sound better. The other option is to get some equalization to cut the 40 hz signal. I hope people aren't getting the impression that I think it is the sub that is the problem. The sub is excellent and really plays low with authority. It all has to do with the box I have it in, the placement and the car acoustics. I am still shocked at the output this sub has runing off only 300 watts.

    DCON 10 enclosure depth questiong

The box was built by a local shop and is supposedly net of 1.25 cu ft with a slot port tuned to 33 hz. I dont think there is anything wrong with the box specs or the sub. It is installed in a 2010 ford fusion behind the seats fring back into the trunk. I'm assuming it is more a result of the cars transfer function. I had the enclosure and car modeled with software and it is showing the same thing I am measuring, the peak at 38 - 43 hz is 10 db + the level at 50- 70 hz. It makes all low material overpowering and very boomy. Now, I took that same box and turned it sideways so it would fire across the trunk it sounded way better with a more even response. The box I have now has a slanted back, so it won't fit the way I want to fire it, without taking up half the trunk. Was wanting to keep the enclosure depth around 9 inches, only leaving about 1.5 inches ish behind the woofer. Any more depth and I start running interfering with the spare tire removal.
  5. I have a DCON 10 currently in a ported enclosure, but just don't really care much for the sound. My car seems to have a nasty 40-45hz boost and almost no bass around 60hz with the sub rear facing in the trunk. I've tried moving the box around and have been able to get better sound with it corner loaded firing basically across the trunk. However, the box I have is really too big to fit like that, so I am wanting to construct a new one. The question that I have is how much space do I need behind the woofer for the vented pole? I'm trying to make the box as shallow as possible. The sub has 6" mounting depth and I'm assuming I would need another 2 inches or so to be safe? I'm thinking I can go longer with the box, the length of the side of the trunk.
  6. I have a box now that is 1.25 cu ft tuned to 32 hz. It was built to go behind the seat and fire back toward the trunk. Normally, this is how I have always positioned my subs in a trunk. The big issue is the positon sounds terrible. It is like 10 db louder at 38-45 hz then it is a 65 hz. The group delay is really high. I was beginning to think the sub just wasn't what I as expecting. I decided to try some different positions with the box, eventhough its big and traezoidal shaped. I found that it sounded the best firing across the trunk in the rear corner, so I'm trying to squeeze out enough airspace for a vented enclosure instead of going sealed.
  7. I'm curious what the main sound difference would be between a 1 vs 1.25 cu ft box tuned to 30 hz? I'm trying to build a custom box in my fusion against the passenger side wall in my trunk. I can maybe get 1.2 cu ft if I run the port outside the box, otherwise I'm looking at a net of closer to 1 with a round port. Alo, how important is it for the port to fire out on the same plane as the woofer? Would it be ok to let it fire out the side toward the rear seats with the woofer firing across the trunk? Thanks
  8. Thanks for the replies. I did some major tuning this weekend, playing with crossovers, ta, some bass boost at 60 hz phasing and overall I got the system sounding pretty good, but there is still a big peak of about 7 db higher between 38 and 45 hz range and the 65-80 hz range seems pretty non existant. I'm wondering if I am just needing some better components up front that will play down to that range. Also, does anyone have a suggestion for a reasonably priced parametric eq to smooth out the frequencies around 40 hz? I was looking at the audiocontrol stuff and its a little more than I want to spend to tame a single peak. Just want something that has good sound quality. Thanks
  9. iIs there a way to verify the tune using test tones? I only ask because I can't really measure the port the way it was constructed. I was under the impression that it would just span the length of the box, but it actually just snakes around on 1 side. It wasn't what I had initially wanted, but the installer said it would work great. Seems like there are too many corners/bends in the slot port.
  10. So, I installed my new dcon 10 in a box that was built by a local audio shop 1.25 cu ft with a slot port that is supposedly tuned to 32.5 hz. I have this enclosure rear firing in my 2010 fusion with 300 watts crossed over at 80 hz. The main thing I have noticed is that the bass is very loud around 40-45 hz with not much in the 60-80 hz range. I'm wondering if this is just due to in car cabin gain and something I am going to have to eq out or if its possible that the box is tuned wrong? Would going with a lower tune, like 29 or 30 hz help with smoothing the upper frequencies? Just trying to get the best bass I can out of the system.
  11. After much debating, I finally decided to pull the trigger on a dcon 10 d4. Currently building a 1.25 cu ft box tuned to 32 hz. I am excited, but also a little nervous buying a speaker I have never heard. However, all the hype surrounding this woofer has convinced me to give it a try. I'm just hoping to get good clean sq with a little output from this speaker. It will be running off 300 watts from a JL XD 500/3 in a ford fusion.

DCON 12 in sealed enclosure ?s

I looked at the sa 12s initially, but was worried that my 300 watts would be underpowering that sub, since it is rated at 600w rms. I just feel that the dcon is a better match for power with the amp I have.

DCON 12 in sealed enclosure ?s

I am looking for some quality bass, but with only going a single driver, I would like a sub that has some decent output. I'll look into some options for going with a 10 ported at that volume. My only fear is getting a port into a small and slanted box will be more work than I had anticipated, but I'm sure it can be done.

DCON 12 in sealed enclosure ?s

Thanks for the reply. Maybe I need to rethink my idea as i don't really want to give up the space necessary for an optimally ported 12. Probably could just step down to the dcon 10 and put it in a ported enclosure.

Hello all. New to this forum, but not new to car audio. Been buying and installing equipment since 1990...way too much equipment. I'm excited to have found this forum!
