    Design Silverado - 2 Icon 10's Ported

Juan, OK, I re-designed the enclosure for subs/ports firing forward and while doing so this does gain volume to bring the spec's to 1.25 cf per sub within the confines of the enclosure dimensions, it still does not do much in terms of gaining more port area given the port tuning. At best, the maximum port area that can be achieved is 32 sq. in. which still leave the port mach slightly high, BUT, still under the point where port noise would start to happen. Keep in mind that this is at 2000 watts or 1000 watts per sub and your not going to be listening to these subs at 2000 watts every day because if ya do, you'll be deaf as stump inside a week. IMO, 1 cf per sub at 33hz, I can get a port area of 39 sq. in. and this drops the vent mach to a more reasonable level, but, there's no way in he!! to gain a major amount of port area as to what most would like to have to 2 Icon 10's ported under the rear seat of a silverado. Now, I can gain more port area but you'll sacrifice volume for the subs. If you want the best of both worlds ( volume and reasonable port area ) then you're going to have to increase the depth of the enclosure beyond that of the seat.

I documented the complete build from start to finish for this enclosure since folks wanted to see it, all 65 pictures worth. The only pic's I didn't take were of the enclosure with carpet, the camera batteries crapped out. http://s296.photobucket.com/albums/mm184/m...verado%20build/ You'll have to view the album start from the last page backwards, it just happened to upload the pics in that order.

Port is not different than one would see or use to do a T-Type port in a ported enclosure that i have seen other enclosure designs used. Though, in all honesty, I have serious reservations about this type of port, I know that that have been used though the port tuning is highly speculative given what the design is to bear out but that basically all changes the moment it's put in the vehicle. I got plenty of room to do the spec's at .85 cf per subwoofer @ 33hz and do two ports but the problem there is the ports for area/size just make it slightly under the point where port noise would start to an issue and two 4" aero ports just won't float the boat either.

Here are the dimensions for the Icon 12" This is the enclosure for it: The enclosure is 2.25 net , port tuned to 33hz. If you wan the port side fire, simple enough to do, same port spec's and dims fired to the side. As for the cost - $ 185.00 plus shipping, but, most likely someone will say now I did post the cost they can do it for cheaper. How much would an enclosure cost for dual 10 inch icons ported and covered in charcoal carpet.? How many watts per sub?

OM, lets look at what ya just said. Porting to the rear. That makes no sense to me what so ever because if the port were to the rear, it would be slammed right up against where the floor pan steps up to a ledge that behind the seat, basically killing output...... period. Porting to the side. Yeah, ok, that would be the easiest way to do it, but, I don't like it because your basically firing the port into the door that a couple of inches away and trying to reflect it back to where.... the port and the side of the enclosure. Raising or not raising the seat, that's a simple one...... I leave that up to the customer given how he wants it done, his choice, not mine. that's fine, i didn't mean to smash on ya. my post came across wrong..but let's look at this.. while your fabs skills are fine, not knocking those whatsoever, i've owned that very model truck this box was built for. and regardless of your arguements, i know what works. how? because as i mentioned, i've built well over a dozen boxes to go under the seat, everything from four 8s to a single 12. sealed and ported. front fired, down fired and up fired. loudest ever? down fired pair of 10s with 3" round ports fired to the rear. second loudest? single ICON 12 down fired with 4" round port fired into passanger side door. but yeah, i dunno what i'm talking about. but don't listen to me, what do i know? right? my screen name isn't Mr. Cabinetry, so i gotta be wrong. maybe i just imagined all those builds. wheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee Are you looking for an argument or what??? Sorry, your not gettin one because you got the attitude of " I am the authority " because you built 12 boxes for this one specific vehicle. Tell ya what, there's a member on here I built a similar enclosure for a Fi Q 12, here's the thread: http://www.soundsolutionsaudio.com/forum/i...;hl=excelerater Why don't ya go over there and post telling him how ya feel, I'm sure he would like to hear your input and observations. And one other thing, sometimes it's not about being how loud it sounds.

Curious, but, ok. I don't understand why the need to create or document a build other than the need to see the process so people don't think your building the enclosure with chewing gum and spit or to see that the joints of the enclosure don't look like a " hack job ". Oh well, I guess it just makes for good representation of the work quality.

Well, thank you for that input, but, if ya don't mind, I still would like to know what they are, even if just as a baseline reference.
  13. Thanks Denim for the spec's on the subwoofers, I was able to use the Icon 12 for the design, it fits just fine with no problems.

Juan, I will be posting all build /finish pic's of the enclosure next wednesday, May 28th. I'm working a total of 10 builds in various phases and the pic's taking are in no specific order. I have to go thru them all and put them in each folder according the enclosure build and edit them before posting.

All parts are basically cut to rough sizes at the moment. The precise cuts of the parts sizes will be done and assembled after the mdf stabilizes to the environment of the shop.

While angling the back portion of the enclosure will yield alittle more volume, it does nothing to solve the problem of clearance issue's of the subwoofer being mounted downward firing and raising the seat is the only option. I'm sure owners of such vehicles are fully aware of the pros and cons of raising the seat to which that's there choice to make given for what they want sub/enclosure wise.

The enclosure is 2.25 net , port tuned to 33hz. Yes, the customer will have to raise the seat 2". If possible could you post some pics of the enclosure installed in the truck? I'll ask the customer to take some pic's of the enclosure installed.

This enclosure has not been built yet. However, a similar enclosure was built for a Fi Audio Q 12, here's the thread: http://www.soundsolutionsaudio.com/forum/i...ic=12054&hl Edit: I just took a look at the dims for the ssd 12" and it would fit right in this enclosure given that you would have to raise the seat 2".

  22. I have a customer that wants to use either of subwoofers mentioned for a silverado install. Which ever model is used is dependent upon which subwoofer will fit given the design of the enclosure and the customer has already told me he has tired to obtain the same information with no response.

Demin, Thanks for the information, as always, it is greatly appreciated. Phil Woodlawn Cabinetry If need be, when I get our lilsuper8" (and 12" proto for that matter) I can attempt to remember to pull dims off it for you. I mention it because the demand the 8" is crazy and we have not even finalized the model yet. If you would be kind enough to do so and post those spec's ( dims ) for those subs, I would appreciate that as well.

With all due respect johnecon2001, you are confused. I have never asked for the dimensions for the subwoofers mentioned before, I have however have asked for and received the full dimensions for the FI Audio Q 12 and FI Audio Q 1o and Sound Splinter RL-s 15, correction, I didn't need to ask for the RL-s 15 dimensions because their posted on Sound Splinters Website. Phil, the Q 10's basket dimensions can be used for the Icon 10's basket dimensions as they only differ in color. Really!!!! Cool Beans, thanks for that little tidbit of info.
