  1. Hope everyone is doing well. Was reminiscing on this forum this morning. Been a part of it a long time and was shaped a lot from it. Without Sean's input I've finally succumbed to the dark side (Apple) Apple phone, watch, headphones and macbook Air :). I moved on from engineering to IT at a bank (USAA). Loved the work and hated the management to I moved to something where I don't love the work, but I do love the management.

Lost my Dad a couple weeks ago. Feels weird being 35 yrs old and having lost my Mom and Dad already. However, my dad was similar, lost his dad at 3 months and his mom at 35 years.

Hope everyone is doing well here! Miss jumping on this forum everyday to see the shenanigans. It's still the first bookmark on all my Chrome windows. :)

I am turning into Sean with car shopping...what sporty car to replace the Miata with?

    - 4 seats, otherwise I'm keeping the Miata or getting a C5

    - decent power, should do 0-60 in under 6 seconds

    - under 3 liters displacement

    - decent handling / not a road barge

    - if it's small-ish it might even replace the econobox I'm hooning around town, so going down from 3 to 2 cars.

So far the previous gen Type R, Mustang S550 (ecoboost) and M135i are real contenders.

I'd love a K24 or LS swapped RX8 but not sure how I can legally swing a K24 swap, let alone an LS swap. K24 RX8 would tick all boxes, including high wife acceptance factor.

I really loved the Mustang ecoboost I've driven, other than I didn't feel like I could see around me.

Anybody else on this forum enjoy fishing?  I know I haven't been on in a while, life gets busy.  Spend most of my free time doing family stuff.

My oldest is getting into audio, and is wanting me to get back into the big stereos again.  Might have some upgrades coming in the near future.

That will be a great time when my kids get there. Too bad I don't have any of my old school stuff (except the MAW-10 I have in my house)

    Brutal!  Hope it works out.

    Everything worked out great!

The work got done and I was out a $100 deductible. The wife loves her Momster Machine. It goes the RV well and gets good gas mileage for something with a 3.73 rear end.

Overall, there are still a few other quirks but even with the change in the market it’s still very hard to find a car like ours for close to the same price.

  5. What’s the current recommendation for a diy wax/sealant/coating. Going to claybar, m105, m205 and seal the wife’s new vehicle.

my black fire wet diamond is getting old and separating so if I’m going to spend the time I’ll get a new bottle of something to seal.

not sure if I have the capacity/time to ceramic coat but would consider it. Don’t need the paint to be perfect just want to protect and make it easy to clean!

How long to get it back? I know here in FL a lot of shops are having one hell of a time sourcing parts.

It ended up taking about a week once it got to the dealer who actually did the work. We started off at the Chevrolet dealer I bought it from, then took it to a close dealer who assessed it. When the dealer realized it was going to be thousands in work, they opted to send it to their own dealer that's about 45 min away.

Fortunately, they covered everything and we got to fully test it out by towing our RV last weekend and everything was good to go!

    Those are nice!

Fun story, we ended up with a 2019 Expedition Limited for a crazy low price ($30,000). I knew the cam phasers were probably wearing out, but at that price I could eat $4000 in repairs and still be ahead.

1 week later the check engine light comes on. Cam codes and cat converter. I take to the dealer (who had a 3 month 3K mile warranty on it). Turns out it needs the cam phasers and the catalytic converter replaced. Total price is about 5K. They are currently sending it down to there Ford dealer to perform the work. So it looks like it’s all going to work out. Only downside is I’m paying on a vehicle I can’t actually use at the moment.

  8. Curious what you guys think on this. This is a Google Maps view of the lights at the intersection. This is the exact view you get going through the light.  Note how the lights are point off to the side. I'm wondering if this is an up-to-code setup (it's temporary for the construction).

  9. Fun to see a little action on here!

I got in a wreck last month. Ran a light under a highway and got T-boned by a sedan. The initial estimate to fix my truck is a couple of thousand away from totaling it. I REALLY hope they do.

The wife and I are talking about selling her car and getting something like a used Lincon Navigator to use as the big family vehicle and tow pig. I would find something cheap (preferably with a stick shift) to use around town. I don't drive much anymore with my work-from-home job, so we can go down to one vehicle pretty easily. Also, have my dad's Bronco sport available to drive almost any time.

  10. 6 channel is a hard sell for me because I normally wouldn't have 6 speakers I want to send similar power levels to in a vehicle. If I'm doing 3 way, I would likely have a beastly 2 chan and small 4 chan or a beastly 4 chan and small 2 chan.

5 chan is perfect for an active 2 way and sub, which is much more my wheel house.

  11. Man it's been quiet in here!

I know I've asked this before, but I'm going to ask again and THEN go search.

I'm looking for a scope for my rifle. I'm not a gun nut, and I know that I'm buying something that will probably last me the rest of my life (unless some crazy advance in technology comes out). I shoot 100-200 yds and value low light visibility.

    What's the recs?

  12. $3-4K is a lot of money that can also go really quick if you don't have a plan.

A few questions to help guide the process.

    • Do you plan on doing the work yourself?
      • Are you willing to learn the details of RMS vs peak power to help build a quality system
      • Are  you comfortable with removing panels off your car?
      • Are you comfortable with tools in order to build a quality subwoofer box?
      • If not, do you have a friend that has previously put together systems that would be willing to help?
      • If not, you will probably need to find a reputable shop. Understandably, your $3-4K won't stretch as far due to the cost of labor.
    • What are your real goals?
      • Listen to high quality music?
      • Impressive friends with a rattling trunk?
      • Do you want to maintain trunk space?
      • Reduce road noise to increase your music experience?
      • Just be loud?
    • Any reason why you specifically want 2 12's?

I feel like my midlife crisis is coming on at 36.

-Massive issues with my kid and her lying; lies that were initially withheld from me, but then shared with me after she lied to her mom even more.

-No real luck getting to work in project management and quite honestly, unless it's something I am REALLY jazzed to want to jump to I haven't been applying even if it might fit. I'm enjoying the political writing I'm doing now, I could use better money. Still damn nice to be appreciated for my writing.

-For some reason part of me wants to relocate someplace cheaper like Augusta, buy a house as well as place big enough to have a gallery and a studio to shoot in. Use it to showcase artists who want a chance to sell their work. Let people have gallery nights and such.

I'm sorry about the lying part. That can really suck, particularly when both parents aren't on the same page..

I think that COVID has made a lot of people reconsider their priorities in life. I'm personally hoping that it's one of the great things to come out of the pandemic. Heck, I've been doing engineering for 10+ years and just made a complete career change into the IT field. I'm not sure what your financial situation is, but if you can change locations and have a descent income while building something you are passionate in, now is always the time.  With a relocation, I would find somewhere that really is underserved in providing support to artists and try to make my mark there.

This may be no where close to what you are thinking, but around here, people are really turning on to the idea of repurposing rural housing for a business and consumers are loving the out of the way experience. Examples are a drive through Christmas light place that someone built in the woods of their property; There's a new brewery outside of town that is a ranch style home and a shop. I've also seen some new nice restaurants built a few minutes outside of town. Not sure if there would be the possibility of buying a house out in the woods and making a swanky gallery that people go to particularly because of the mystique of it. Just brainstorming here. My main take away is, if you can keep yourself from starving, branch out and try something that you are really passionate about. It may be a complete failure of a business, but teach you everything you needed to know about where you want to go in life.

Thanks. Saw those on ebay.  Thinking I will grab one.  So far it is much better.  2.8 may be too open though as I can swing in and out of focus depending on how much attention I am paying.  So much more natural looking than my other webcam.  The flipping open of the mirror is disconcerting, but I used it for 3 hours today and all good.  I can't find how to focus in the Eos utility so I've been doing it manually, but that is the last frontier.

Does your lens default to the largest aperture? I tried setting my 1.4 to 2.8 and didn't seem to be able to get it to respond.

  15. Work is not footing the bill, but I would say it's not like buying the Cobra to take the kids to school. It's more like my realtor, who buys a certified pre-owned Range Rover. He could easily buy a new RAV4 for half the price, but there's definitely something nice about the Range Rover.

In the same vein, I'm going to be using this for a job that makes me money and has plenty of upside. For the first few months, this will be the only way some of my co-workers ever interact with me.

Also, I still would use the camera for, well, camera stuff. Family photos, etc. So I'm really justifying the extra cost with double use. That being said. If I can use the 60D and throw on the 24mm, which I've been wanting for a long while, that may be the ticket.

I also used my friends mirror less that does not have a view finder and there's no way I'm getting one without anymore, if I were to get one in the future.
