    Welcome to the IHoP v.2

I’m honestly 6 month in to a work from home job with a low end chair my wife still has from college. Lol My wife uses a medicine ball mostly. I’d be interested to hear options as well!

6 channel is a hard sell for me because I normally wouldn't have 6 speakers I want to send similar power levels to in a vehicle. If I'm doing 3 way, I would likely have a beastly 2 chan and small 4 chan or a beastly 4 chan and small 2 chan. 5 chan is perfect for an active 2 way and sub, which is much more my wheel house.

Life has definitely changed for all of us since COVID started. A little update on my side, the new job is going well, waiting for the 4-month mark to start the process of hiring full-time. The HR system is soooo backed up, we expect it to start the actual process in May and have it all wrapped up by June. Working from home has allowed for many luxuries, time with family, family lunches outside, washing cars with kids in the middle of the day. I was worried about my social needs, but I've just switched the people I interact with. It opened up the door to help me focus some of my dad's money in real estate, so now we are in the process of buying a house and converting it into a short-term rental in a hot little market where my wife grew up. Overall, life's been good! Hopefully, I can get some things going and start carving out more time for some side projects.

Man it's been quiet in here! I know I've asked this before, but I'm going to ask again and THEN go search. I'm looking for a scope for my rifle. I'm not a gun nut, and I know that I'm buying something that will probably last me the rest of my life (unless some crazy advance in technology comes out). I shoot 100-200 yds and value low light visibility. What's the recs?
  5. $3-4K is a lot of money that can also go really quick if you don't have a plan. A few questions to help guide the process. Do you plan on doing the work yourself? Are you willing to learn the details of RMS vs peak power to help build a quality system Are you comfortable with removing panels off your car? Are you comfortable with tools in order to build a quality subwoofer box? If not, do you have a friend that has previously put together systems that would be willing to help? If not, you will probably need to find a reputable shop. Understandably, your $3-4K won't stretch as far due to the cost of labor. What are your real goals? Listen to high quality music? Impressive friends with a rattling trunk? Do you want to maintain trunk space? Reduce road noise to increase your music experience? Just be loud? Any reason why you specifically want 2 12's?

    Welcome to the IHoP v.2

I'm sorry about the lying part. That can really suck, particularly when both parents aren't on the same page.. I think that COVID has made a lot of people reconsider their priorities in life. I'm personally hoping that it's one of the great things to come out of the pandemic. Heck, I've been doing engineering for 10+ years and just made a complete career change into the IT field. I'm not sure what your financial situation is, but if you can change locations and have a descent income while building something you are passionate in, now is always the time. With a relocation, I would find somewhere that really is underserved in providing support to artists and try to make my mark there. This may be no where close to what you are thinking, but around here, people are really turning on to the idea of repurposing rural housing for a business and consumers are loving the out of the way experience. Examples are a drive through Christmas light place that someone built in the woods of their property; There's a new brewery outside of town that is a ranch style home and a shop. I've also seen some new nice restaurants built a few minutes outside of town. Not sure if there would be the possibility of buying a house out in the woods and making a swanky gallery that people go to particularly because of the mystique of it. Just brainstorming here. My main take away is, if you can keep yourself from starving, branch out and try something that you are really passionate about. It may be a complete failure of a business, but teach you everything you needed to know about where you want to go in life.

Does your lens default to the largest aperture? I tried setting my 1.4 to 2.8 and didn't seem to be able to get it to respond.

Work is not footing the bill, but I would say it's not like buying the Cobra to take the kids to school. It's more like my realtor, who buys a certified pre-owned Range Rover. He could easily buy a new RAV4 for half the price, but there's definitely something nice about the Range Rover. In the same vein, I'm going to be using this for a job that makes me money and has plenty of upside. For the first few months, this will be the only way some of my co-workers ever interact with me. Also, I still would use the camera for, well, camera stuff. Family photos, etc. So I'm really justifying the extra cost with double use. That being said. If I can use the 60D and throw on the 24mm, which I've been wanting for a long while, that may be the ticket. I also used my friends mirror less that does not have a view finder and there's no way I'm getting one without anymore, if I were to get one in the future.

If I don't have to worry, should I just buy a 24mm 2.8 and call it a day? Should allow me to get the camera close enough to not crowd the room

Canon released their EOS webcam utility sometime last year I believe. https://www.usa.canon.com/internet/portal/us/home/support/self-help-center/eos-webcam-utility. Should I be worried about a couple hours of my 60D doing that per day? I thought I may really be stressing the sensor.

My buddy let me borrow his Logitech C922 Pro, which is considered a pretty good web cam. I set up my Canon 60D with a 50mm 1.4 and the difference, even in Zoom, is incredible. Depending on how long I'm on calls (which will be a lot) I'm worried I would burn out the 60D. The 50 looks great but has to be placed too far back in the office to be utilized full time, so I'm looking at something more like a 22/24 mm. I'll have to sacrifice some of that sweet sweet bokeh, but it is what it is. Also, I have to really light up my space to get great results on the webcam. On the DSLR I can only have my desk lamp, and natural light from a window and be just fine.

Oh man, that really sucks. The wife went through COVID, while not a 10 year old I can share a bit of my experience and perspective. In short: eat normal healthy foods, get good sleep and encourage him to play/move as much as he feels good (promoting heavy breathing will help him). Ideas would be kicking a soccer ball back and forth, playing catch, etc. If you have a room that has a door to the outside that would be a good "quarantive" room as it would allow him to go outside. I think the psychological stress of quarantine can create the most havoc. Vitamin and D3 were recommended by a doctor when my wife got COVID. Honestly, if it was me, I would probably just take on the risk in order to comfort him (hugs for sure, cuddling, etc.), if he feels bad. Our story: The wife got COVID; had it for 2 nights before she got tested. None of us were vaccinated. Our little one was still breast feeding. My wife continued to breast feed. She stayed in our bedroom and I slept in our guest room and took care of the kids at night (including the breastfeeding baby). After 2 days of laying around she was more tired from laying around then the symptoms. so she started moving around a lot more and started to feel better much faster. After about 3 days we gave up on quarantining and just kept some relative distance in the house. I developed the same symptoms as her at one point, but 6 tests in 4 days all came back negative. The other little one never felt bad and we never tested her. Praying for a short, low symptom response and a quick recovery for your little one!

So, in true IHOP fashion, I'm considering selling my DSLR for a mirrorless to use a primary camera for zoom at my new remote job. Talk me into jumping off the ledge?

Thanks Nem, Talked to one guy on the phone. He seemed very knowledgeable. Said he's certified to use ceramic pro and a couple others but he much prefers using Fenylabs. Quoted me $1350 to do cleaning, polishing and ceramic. This is on a brand new vehicle. He claims it's a 5 year coating and should only need washing with a slippery soap and good rags.

Speaking of ultimate grocery getter. Pee paw decided on a Bronco Sport. All he needs and low enough to get into. Took it in the shorts on trade in, but got rid of that wrecked truck that I felt was a ticking time bomb. Drove a Bronco today. If my wife would decide she doesn't want more kids, we'd order one for late 2022.
