    18" in an Escape build

Don't have anything to show yet, but here is the plan: 8 cube box with an 8" aero port. 3/4 mdf all the way around with double layered top. 8" PVC port flared and flush mounted. 2x4 going from front to back, and top to bottom. Going to use bolts through the side as terminals. Woofer will be either an 18" UFO BTL or HDC3. Tuning will likely be 30hz. Amp is an old school Memphis 1500w. Old school meaning back before they wired to 1 ohm. Stock alt holds at 14.1 v with the red top under the hood so electrical won't be upgraded. I'm getting the wood and building the box Sunday. Opinions? Tips?

    18" in an Escape build

All done now! Forgot I had a trunk back there... Old box with SA12s, next to new. New location for the jack since I won't be able to access it in the factory location with the box. Juuust fits. The rear hatch is a half inch from the box with it against the seats. Mmmm It's like looking up a skirt... Gotta represent! The sticker they gave me was printed crooked, so it is now crooked on my window :/ So far it matches the level of My SA12s. Cone would not move AT ALL, and I thought my 12s were stiff... Playing it at about 700 watts until it lets go a bit. Had to trim the cutout with the box in the truck, Got sawdust everywhere. The hole measured 16.5 like the website says but it didn't fit. Ended up being a little under 17 to fit.

    Anyone have experience with Explorers?

Have an 18 in my escape, a little smaller than an explorer. I bet you could run two with the box level at the seats.

buddy is cheap but needs some help

I have a 350rms amp at 4 ohms I could sell for 50+ shipping. Two channel amp so 4 ohms bridged. Soundstream PCX2.350
  8. I have two giant bulldozer batteries in my barn, hold charge fine. All they say on them is Deka 8C12, 90 min, and extreme deep cycle. They are open cell with acid in them so that's why I'm worried. Would they work as secondary batteries in the back?
  9. What's the reason for not using them in a car?
  10. They're 12v. That's what i was thinking, open cell = not for car.

Before buying a new one, I'd speak with Fi about a defective magnet.

How many of each? (amp, sub)
  13. Looking for a cheap amp for a friends car, he'll be buying my SA12s. Needs 1200 at two ohms. Are the Hifonics BRZ amps good? I found one for 200$ new.

    diminished power

Well I'm off to bed, someone else can take over...

    diminished power

You check the amp with the speakers connected to it. It should read what you want it to be wired to. Patients level is lowering....
  16. djtomczak

    diminished power

you could if you disconnect the wires from them and check each coil. they should read close to what they are rated at. Either two or four.

    diminished power

Take you DMM, set it to ohms. With everything off: place the positive, red, lead on the positive terminal where your speakers connect to your amp, and the negative, black, lead to the negative terminal where your speakers connect to the amp.

big three, batt bank of kenetics, RF T6002 birth sheet 788 to 2 P3's seriesed then paralleled and bridged at 4 Ohms Doesn't answer his question fully Breaking in/wear of the subs could have altered the load.

    diminished power

I've got P3's no solder connections but maybe the springs vibrated the wire out I.ll go check and get back in a little bit. beat me to it^

    X2 I know the feeling...
  22. This amp isn't for the HDC, the hifonics is for my friend who is buying my SA12s. I'm running the HDC at 2 ohms because my amp only goes down to 2 ohms. I don't want to try and go lower in fear of frying it.
  23. Running 100w over the RMS is likely not going to cause any damage. More than likely one of the system settings was set incorrectly such as the gain, bass boost, etc, or he was using a ported enclosure & played too far under tuning. In which case, your friend could suffer the same fate even if running "exactly" the rated power handling. When you set the gains to a certain volume then tell someone to not turn it past that, they don't listen... The gain was set improperly then. On the factory head unit terrible distortion occurred at about half volume, so I went a little below half, to where there was no distortion and set the gains there. I told him to not turn the volume past that mark, he didn't listen.
  24. Well it would all really depend on your budget and if you have the same fear of purchasing used equipment. AQ and Audiopipe are often two "cheaper" amplifier brands that people recommend around here. There has been a few HiFonics horror stories, but in reality 99% of the time an amplifier fails it's the users fault. I actually run a HiFonics amp... but it's a tad older than the BRZ line AQ is cheap? And remember, its sound qubed now! I've heard terrible stories of their other lines, but I guess the BRZ line is supposed to be much better. We'll find out once he get's it installed.

Which made that thread useless:. I wasn't referring to that either.
