Did I waste my money on these subs?

I used bass boost and didnt have a problem. What I did was set my amp's gain with the bassboost up all the way so that the 1000wrms was the max it would see and not send a choppy signal. I had the bassboost down for driving and up for comps.

    Where does everyone get there.....

I used the website parts express to build some dayton audio towers, I bought a sub amp there too.

OK building a new fi home audio sub!

thanks! sounds good guys i dont really understand the crossover on the amp, its an HPSA-1000R by dayton audio it has six knobs, the left 3 are highlighted under "EQ" and they are Freq (18-80), Bandwidth (0.1-1), and Level (-14.5 to +6). then the right 3 knobs are Phase(0-180), Freq(30-200), and then Gain(0-10) i moved the box around the room and it sounds much better. but im not sure about the crossover on the amp, audibly the frequency knobs make no difference. so i must be doing something wrong

OK building a new fi home audio sub!

its 49" tall, 23" wide, 20"deep. the top and bottom are both 1.5" thick. Port is 21.5"x3.5"x51.75". theres 3 window frame shaped braces inside the room i have it in right now is about 12'x10', would this affect it?
  6. Ok currently im using a Fi Q18 in an 8 cubic foot box tuned to 19 hz powered by a dayton 1000watt amp, I used the RE box designer program on their website and i dont think it worked out right because my bass peaks really high, maybe around 60hz. Im looking for help from the home audio geniuses here because im not sure how to make this work out for me i listen to everything but mainly hip hop. it will seldomly be used for movies. and im building dayton 8s right now. im looking for good musical response and excursion. the room will be about 20x30 any designs or ideas are much appreciated

    The Dayton 8 crossover design?

yea that helps, i wasnt sure if i was going to have to connect them in series or parallel thanks a whole bunch

    The Dayton 8 crossover design?

To me, it appears as if the woofers are on a separate circuit than the tweeters. I know they're connected somehow and I've studied the build log pictures of the crossovers, but I dont understand this calsod crossover design. If anybody could help that would be great thanks.

with the dayton 8s, it shows the woofers and the tweeters on different circuits? will i need to run these in series or parallel?

Dayton audio 1000watt amp on sale today only!!!

yea i know but they're fairly close to the border, that may be why. Im building the sub today, Fi Q 18 in a 8 cube box, tuned to 20hz, hopefully low enough
  12. I basically need a receiver with a sub pre out and has to be a decent quality unit. Is this the one for me? Im running a 2.1 setup with some dayton 8s and a Fi Q18 powered by a dayton 1000w free standing amp.
  13. It's been resolved, I called back and suggested putting the resistor in a bubble wrap envelope and they said they could do it up for free so that is just all fine and dandy! THANKS EVERYONE if it wasnt for you and this site I'd have bought some el cheapo best buy towers
  14. Ok thats perfect, I wasn't to sure on the impedence of the entire speaker though. aha and you might laugh at this crap that just happened, because I live in Canada, it would cost 35 bucks to ship the $1.25 resistor so they just credited me and now I can only build one speaker... sweet! So unless radioshack or whom ever has one of these, I'm going to be buying the most price inflated resistor ever!
  15. Can I just power the Dayton 8s with a receiver? What kind of receiver could I get for about 500 that would power the dayton 8s well and work well with the Dayton sub amp?
