USA - 800
I have to agree with helotaxi i know for sure that the black 1999 model usa-400 amp does not have a crossover! Im look'n at mine wright now. maybe the newer ones do, but they are also a lot lower wattage than the 99 model!

They don't have on board crossovers, but they came new with a seperate external cross over is what he is saying (I Think)

Most impressed you've ever been with a stereo?

Not to get off topic to far but my passenger was 1.5 years getting back to normal if The sound system was not properly anchored and well done so it stayed in place as well as it did my and my Passenger would have got hit from behind by 600 or so pounds going 70 MPH I doubt if that would have hurt for long. I think if the W6's had been available when we built the system (there was a year or so when the W6 was redesigning) or something that handled the power a little better than the W3 the system might have outperformed the Orion Van which I think did around 168db's which in the 80's was world record area. I think the Durango was capable of near 170 but not with the subs or the setup we were using We never metered it. I'm not an SPL guy. It is cool but I'm to old to desire relearning the finer points for a hobby but I seem to guess accurately and I doubt that the Durango never seen above 158 db's. I am not sure of the exact Orion numbers but we copied their design (I was kid working on with them, or more accurately go get soda's bitch boy) but I picked up a few things from being around. I had more advanced technology to work with and I'm guessing the pro build and design was 10 Db's louder and I think it takes less to get from 0 Db's to 158 Db's than it does to get from 158 to 168 and that is why it is on my list it was built at a time when more subs ruled so airspace requirements were issues people tried Iso Baric with moderate success if you had unlimited money, However during that time the Kicker Solo Baric was unveiled and was a damn good speaker in its day, IF it was in a small sealed enclosure and walla a speaker is named it was successful that Kickers Flagship sub still carries the name and it is a much different design. Or at least that's my theory the 80's and early 90's seen a lot of innovations.

I'm not sure which was loudest but the crash hurt more then the stereo ever did. I didn't have a seperate policy for stereo insurance and allmost had do postal type things before they even let me pull out the surviving peices of stereo.

The Orion Van with 20 Iso Baric 12's in 1986 and The Terminator Hearse in 1987. A few of us built a modern 20 W3 12's Iso Baric in a Dodge Durango Powered by (subs Only) 10 PG Titanium 1200.1's It was impressive and since we stoled the design ideas from Orions mid 80's Ideas it had a cool old school twist and it was fairly loud as hell until I crashed it into a bus.
  6. The Zapco SP7 is 1/2 Din I have one in my system. The SP-7 does not have a sub volume control, and is Symbolink it can be converted to RCA's it is a nice piece just like all Zapco products but to use it as dash fill would be a waste of money.

    USA 800 Feeler

I purchased the amp from Justonemoreamp late last year. This amp will not be going up for sale my son has made claim to it. I have had many nice amplifiers and this particular model is a real Gem. If I did not have a stack of Zapco C2K's gathering dust even my son wouldn't be getting it. I'll edit the post I read back over it and it is somewhat salesman like. I don't know how to edit or delete previous posts so if someone will delete the whole thread I'll post one that better conforms with the board rules.

No if I were selling it it would be on Ebay, it is rare I'm trying to find out if there is enough interest to warrant selling it and I'm curious as to whether or not 50 is all that was made. I figure anyone that has interest in US Amps amplifiers would enjoy some information on this one and may leave some as well.

    USA 800 Feeler

I have a US Amps USA 800 pushing 4 15's I also have 4 Zapco C2K 9.0's in the closet, My ride has Zapco on the mids and highs so I am going to put the 9.0's on the subs. I think the information on this amp(USA-800)is interesting for those browsing this forum and I'm checking to see if there is enough interest to warrant selling it. The following is a portion of the ad from when I purchased the amp. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Here's one I'd be tickled pink to find under my Christmas tree...one of the original 50 US AMPS USA-800!! This is THE bad-boy cheater amp, with sound quality creditials. Truely the absolute best of both worlds, spl and sq in one. I see no signs of it ever being down or repaired, which is what the original owner told me. I have only seen one other one in chrome, on Ebay as a matter of fact. The few others I have seen over the years were black. A little history on it...the USA-800's were made for a very short time with a limited run of only 50. From what I hear, only 26 actual sales of these were accounted for.. they were expensive; too expensive for the market at the time I believe. I sure couldn't afford one then with a retail of $4000.00. Some of the particulars are.. Full A/B Class Quad transformers Quad 8 Gauge Power and Ground 8 Gauge Esoteric Oxygen-Free Cabling Throughout Total Harmonic Distortion- 0.006%! Signal to Noise Ratio- 115dB Dampening Factor- Greater than 1000 Number of Channels- 2 Length- 44 inches Wieght- 40 lbs. Advertised Power Output at 12 volts 400 wrms x 2 @ 4ohms 800 wrms x 2 @ 2 ohms 1600 wrms x 2 @ 1 ohm 1600 wrms x 1 @ 4 ohms 3200 wrms x 1 @ 2 ohms Now, in regards to power...there was a thread on the DD website forum of where this amp was benched at consistantly over 6000 watts rms. There is also a German post of the same, testing at over 6000 wrms. I fully believe it as I have run this amp at 4 ohms at 1/4 gain and my head unit skipped. I am running a Clarion 9255, which has an excellent transport mech and suspension, but nevertheless it would skip on hard bass notes. The sound quality by the way was extraordinary for sure.....dead accurate bass!

    ZAPCO DC REFERENCE

Yea but why would you run pyramid when road gear is available, I have had many Zapco pieces from 1986 till now and have not been let down once, The white AG's didn't really make the name shine but they are still better used then many new amps today. The US Amps USA - 800 I have is a very impressive amp as well, I'm still debating over continueing to use it or switching it out for 2 C2K 9.0's the 9.0 is as good an amp as I've ever had and I'm pretty old so I've had many. Hey Team Zapco I could use some advice on a head unit and who is making the new Zapco speakers.

    ZAPCO DC REFERENCE

I just took out 3 SX amps-(2)1250.1's and (1)700.4 with SXRC and replaced them with Zapco DC 1000.4 with DRC-SL & 9.0the SX are decent in my opinion but really don't even belong in the same sentence with the Zapco's I'm not talking down the Kicker amps but my experience with Kicker SX -vs- Zapco DC Ref or C2K it is not even a little close. I am very curious, what exactly about the SX isn't up to par with the Zapco's in your opinion? I probably appear a little more against the SX's then I mean to they are good amps, However the clarity and crispness that the Zapco provides is much more appealing to me. Now the SX 700.4 has been reliable and problem free for 2 or so years however in that same time frame Kicker has replaced or repaired One or both of my SX1250's 5 times and I replaced them at my expense once each, so the support was good but the product in the case of the 1250's was not reliable. I did find the gain ranges to be useful on the SX and not available on the Zapco, I guess in my opinion I got 400.00 worth of sound out of the 700.4 and 1000.00 worth out of the Zapco so if money is not an issue go Z if so the Kickers are a decent product I never got them to the level I was trying to achieve but very few people that don't compete are trying to build a system like mine.

I am so with you here! Take the chit out of the amp, and put it in one little box. No, they have to complicate chit. IF they were REALLY smart, they'd make symbilink processor that does all of this chit and can work with any Zapco amp, so they'll all have the same features in every class. I agree with simple, I have a C2K 9.0 it took 5 minutes to adjust and is strong, also DC Ref 1000.4 with DRC-Sl it took 30 minutes to set up and I have 5 presets at the push of a button, Also I have US Amps USA-800 it has 1 knob a gain Which is simple but if I didn't buy a xover for it, it would be useless. I agree Zapco could simplify all the Symbolink stuff, but the DC Refs aren't that complex and most people buying Zapco level products are reletively knowledgeable and once the set up is completed your done. The C2K Amps are simple and are very strong and clean the only drawback is they are pricey the DC Refs make real sound quality affordable and they are modern technology.
