Torn apart? I simply pulled a little plastic disc off the back with little effort.

so im assuming thats ther xover.

I don't think he meant torn apart literally, I believe he just meant took apart to see whats inside. When he says "interesting way to go about it" he meant the company building the speaker, not you taking it apart.

    Also welcome to SSA.

This amp is rated at 180 watts rms which is fine, you ALWAYS start with your gain/bass boost all the way down and ONLY increase gain in small increments until getting the desired performance. Again that sub will not handle a ton of power nor abuse. BE GENTLE. To increase output I'd recommend a ported box over sealed. You need to look on magnet or investigate on google to find the exact model number of that sub so the recommend enclosures can be looked up and followed.

Done and done for less than $100 for decent amp and wires. I checked the SSA store, it didn't have anything quite as low as $80 that being said SSA is a fantastic brand/forum and we should support them when possible, that being said they do have this amp that is really good for the money if you can swing it.

Give SSA  a chance in any way you can in the future. You will NOT be disappointed.

  3. Could be a ton of different things. That being said if a sub is making any noise other than bass something is up. Leaks in box, bad port area etc.  Someone with more experience can chime in but i wouldnt push it with that noise.
