2 15" Icon box ideas in a Dakota

Just an update. Got my 2 SSA icon 15" subs today. also have received my xs power d2700 and my stickers. Crescendo bc2000d is coming on Tuesday. Wow those subs are sexy. Ryan at ramdesigns is designing the box. Will start a build log as soon as I get the designs.
  2. Hi, So I just placed a big order for my dream system off of SSA, consisting of 2 15" SSA Icons, a Crescendo BC2000D, XS2700 and stickers, The subs will be going in a Dodge Dakota Quad Cab, I will be removing two seats in the rear and have dimensions of 22" H, 30" W by 34" deep. Ill be getting DC to design me a box, just wondering what tuning I should ask for and where to put port if subs are on the top plane? I want something fairly balanced SQ to SPL but more to SQ side definitely. Love hitting the Lows hard and want to push lots of air. (if possible) Mostly looking for tuning recommendations for those subs in a cabin like the Dakotas, and also port placement, Thanks,
  3. So I was browsing the classified looking at all the junk that people wanted a ton for when I came across this. Even better was what I paid. Just wish I had a use for it, its been sitting in a closet for years I was told, its got some scratches but its a huge beautiful amp. Please bear with me as I have never posted pics on a forum. 4. Thanks, ya the price was right on it. Would like to use it in my build for the wow factor of how huge it is but I'd only be using one set of components on it so that would not be smart.
  5. Hi, I will be doing 2 15" Icon build on a crescendo BC2000D etc in a Dakota crew cab and have two nice decks in my possession. a Kenwood KDC-bt945u and a Clarion VZ401 DVD deck. Ive done a lot of researching on pre-out voltage but have seen so many opinions to as if it really does make a huge difference or not. Basically the Kenwood has 4v preouts and the Clarion has 2v. I like both decks but would love to have the dvd screen but not at a major loss of output or sound quality. My question is, will I notice a difference or should I go with the Clarion? Thanks,
  6. Hi, so I'm doing a build of two icon 15's in my dodge Dakota crew cab, I have one set of amped hertz hsk components in my doors and just got a second set and wondering if I should put.a second set in the front doors or the second set in the rear doors? I'll have them both amped with about 75rms each. Looking for sound quality and what will have best staging Thanks,

    placement for new hertz speakers

OK so maybe if I put them in back and just leave them lower it'd be best? Any suggestions on front stage? Additional midbass 8's etc?

Hi, im new to SSA forms, I do a lot of reading and researching on forms but thought Id post on here because its an awesome form. So amazed with the owners interest and activity on a forum and customer service. I have a 2003 Dakota quad cab and looking to do either one 18" SSA Zcon on a Crescendo BC2000D or 2 15" SSA ICons. Big 3 done and will getting a xs d3100. Thanks, Codester
  9. ya thats what i figured but the fact that it has both front and subwoofer signal coming out of one preout
  10. Thanks for the replies, I really like all the settings on the Kenwood but it has been giving me one issue. It sends a signal for both sub and front channel through rcas. Its weird because I use one set of rcas for my amped front channel speakers and also my subs. Its on a 3 channel amp. If I try to run one set of RCAs from Front Pre-outs and one set from sub Pre-out I get horrible whining. SO I just use one RCA and it works just wondering why it works? I got the Clarion in a car I bought and its brand new so might just sell it. Thanks,

2 15" Icon box ideas in a Dakota

Thanks, for the reply, I just read your whole build log earlier today, amazing work, super clean! Ya maybe that would be a better idea than subs up. my build is going to be kind of a smaller version. I'd really like to keep that one seat in the back as my trucks a stick so driving with someone in the middle "usually" sucks. ill be removing the two seats fully though. The reason for subs up is that is the only way I can get the two 15" subs in the 30 Inches is to stagger them. Might have to build a custom small seat and gain a couple inches?

Yea, the automated message is simply because of the amount of requests we get, it just makes it easier then anything doing it that way. I normally email right back, but it is Amber's(my wife) birthday this weekend so I am a bit...um occupied lol. Thanks for the reply, no problem I totally understand, im in no hurry, still got to wait for subs to be built. Whenever you get a chance i'd love to work have your opinion and ideas on the box, wasn't to sure if I just filled out the form and got designs sent or if you work personally with your customers, im very pleasantly surprised, Looking forward to working with you and have a great weekend, hope your wife has a great birthday. Thanks

Thats what ive been hearing about the subs! Took me over a year to finally decide on what I wanted to get. That's good to hear I was hoping he'd actually work with me there. I just got an automated message but I guess thats just to weed out the lookers from the people actually willing to pay. I cant wait, I got some waiting to do for the subs to be built but I'd like to have the box ready for when they come. This'll be the biggest system I've done so far so i want to get it sounding the best I can. Just need wires and I'm good. Trying to decide what to use, its between 2/0 welding wire and Knu OFC 0 gauge but it really adds up. Its almost triple of just Knu CCA.
  15. Ok that makes more sense. Ya ill see price difference is so much more. Will be going with either knu ofc or cca with one run positive then one negative then just normal 4 guage kjt for speaker amp. If anyone has any info or opinions on cca vs ofc if its worth the money that would be great meanwhile ill do a seach. I mean i know copper is a better conductor for sure but are we talking 5% more power or 30%? For twice the price would b nice to get 50% more current at least but i doubt it.
  16. So im finally ordering my dream system for my 2003 Dodge Dakota Crew Cab, Its gonna consist of 2 15" d1 SSA Icons in a box approx 8cubic feet tuned around 28hz (will be getting someone on the forum to design it. a Crescendo BC2000D, and a Kicker KX600.4 for my Hertz Hsk components, I know I need some upgraded electrical, so far Big 3 Is done in 0 guage. My truck can fit a group 27 battery but not 31 will the D2700 be adequate? alternator is stock 136 amp. Might end up getting Singer 250a but budget isnt quite ready to fork out that kinda cash. Basically I will be running around 2000 rms after rise and having speakers at 4 ohm. Is this way underkill or will it maybe be enough for now? It will be my DD with occasional demo and cranking it occasionally. Will be ordering this from SSA Tomorrow if I get some good answers. Thanks
  17. Ok ya I doubt Id come close to 2k ever with rise etc. k so one run of OFC, Knu or XS power? ill be getting around 20' so price is pretty close between the two. And is the Extra run of negative 0guage from the Battery worth the money or with big 3 done Is it negligible?
  18. Ok so would I want to buy dual terminals for the amp if I went that route?? I was planning one run of positive and one run of negative 0 guage in KNUKONCEPTZ straight from battery and then a run of 4 guage KNU wire for speaker amp. Its the cheaper Knu the flex not the kolossus. Ive used the 4 guage kits and they are very nice for the price but would two runs of OFC really help enough to justify the extra 150+ dollars? Ive stretched the budget a lot but if itl make a big difference its worth it. Thanks
  19. Thanks for the reply, Thats what I figured, just never ran that much power before and dont know how the XS Power batteries are other than the happy customers/ good ratings on forums, Ya if I get bad voltage drop ill just take it easy. Would singer be one of the best options for an H/O alternator? Got a quote for almost 500 shipped to Canada. Seems a little high but does have lifetime warranty Thanks, Ricksi30 you've been a huge help on my last question too, ill make sure I get a BL started when I get all my stuff. It'l be worth the wait though.
  20. Hi i'm somewhat new to this forum. I have a 2003 Dodge Dakota Quad cab (crew cab) and am trying to decide with the space I have what setup will give me the best result. I'm really looking for Sound Quality and getting super low with loudness a given as either should get more than loud enough for me. The vehicle will be a DD but will also be a show vehicle/ demo for my installs, maybe a couple competitions if i can find some. The largest dimensions I have to work with are 24" tall, 30" wide and 32" deep. (could maybe go an inch more on height if it would make a big difference in sound. According to RE box calculator I have 8.09 cubic feet after port displacement but without sub displacement. my port would be 3.5" wide and would be an L style port with the back length of 12" . Tuning would be about 28hz but would be a little higher after sub displacement. If I went with the 2 15" Icons I would have the port and one sub facing up and one facing forward. (is this a bad idea?) Or one 18" zcon with port up and sub up? Amp would be a Crescendo BC2000D. Looking to purchase all in a day or so, just want to know if I will notice a huge difference in two 15" icons over 1 18" Zcon as its almost $200 more? had experience with quite a few brands but never SSA. I appreciate your opinion and experience/ comments Thanks, Codester

    2 15" icons or 1 18" Zcon

Thanks for all the help and will do with the build log. Build time is around 3-4 weeks on those subs according to Mark,so I got awhile still to get stuff in order. So far I have been so impressed with SSA, members are helpful and Mark was great, pretty rare to ask a owner of a company and get an answer back in an hour or two. amazing customer service. Thanks, everyone

Keep the subs on the same plane. The ICONs are awesome subs. Thanks, that answers my question, only worry was the fact that plotted out on graph paper after the port the subs would be very close to touching each other. Will be placing an order this week for two 15" Icons Who would I ask for box designs? I got basic woodworking tools, table saw, cutoff, jigsaw, router etc. Thanks

    2 15" icons or 1 18" Zcon

Thanks for the replies, i'd love to get two 15" Xcons but my budget is being stretched with the 2 15" Icon's already. Ive almost made my mind up on them, Just want to know if mounting one up and one sideways is gonna lower SQ and output much? or is having the subs with only half inch in between them and half inch from exterior walls gonna affect sound? The top will be double baffled in 3/4" MDF. I am just using RE box calculator to get rough measurements so I can visualize it and get a rough idea. I will probably end up paying someone on the forum to design me a box, Ive been researching about using ts perameters etc but not quite comfortable with it yet. Thanks
