So I finally got some actual progress! The interior is almost completely pulled out, Got some sound deadener down, the stock head unit out and the new Alpine in. I hooked a PAC-TR7 up and it works perfect. No putting the car in park, pulling the hand break twice and holding the foot brake just to make a change to the settings or change in destination on the GPS... annnnndddddddd I can play dvd's. I didn't take alot of pictures, but here's a few. Interior pulled and stuffed in the trunk for the night Dash ripped apart, stock head unit still in. Apline INE-Z928HD in and playing Les Mis for my girlfriend. The picture on the screen is very good, the sun was messing with my camera, so it looks like ass in these pics.

Small update: I decided to make an amp rack. I angled it 35 degrees, and I think it made a huge difference in how it looks back there.
  4. I can't say exactly in your situation, but I just replaced the battery in my spare car because it was old. There was white corrosion built up on the possitive post and it looked like the battery had expanded a bit. I don't have a system in that car so I can't say that would have melted a fuse or not. How old was your battery? I used to run about 2000 watts in my F150 on a stock alt and battery and never had any problems with it.

    Passat XCON

Thanks handman. Everything I have heard from people who have the XCONs is great! I haven't heard the sub in person yet, but I have been told if you want a bad-ass sub that will get low, loud and still sound good, you can't go wrong with the XCON.

    Passat XCON

Thanks Aaron. I got rid of the RF 360.3, I decided to go with the Alpine INE-Z928HD that has the steering wheel control harness for my car. It doesn't have nearly as much control as the 360.3 does, but it will work for me. Thanks. The new Passats have rediculously thin sheet metal! When it rains it sounds like a hale storm in my car. I've heard of people just leaning on the car and denting it. That is part of how they save money to afford to sell it for a good price. As for the processor, it would be great if you post up a full review on it and the Xcon when everything is all in. The new Passats are still awesome cars. They drive and handle very good, and I am very happy with it. They did do some cost cutting to sell them for a good price as Aaron said, but all-in-all the new Passats are an excellent car. Aaron, the Alpine INE-Z928HD is an in-dash head unit that plays CD's, DVD's, has navigation and a list of other stuff. It has a harness designed for the new Jettas and Passats that makes it very easy to keep the steering wheel controls, which was a major concern for me. But when everything is in, I'll let you guys know how well it works and sounds.

I played hooky from class tonight and got my box and false floor mocked up. False floor My car is filthy and this is just a mock up to see how it all looks and fits. Hopefully soon I can get the box painted and wires ran so this can come to life.

    Sealed trunk deadener question

If my port and sub are firing foward into the car from the trunk and sealed off, is there any benefit sound-wise to putting sound deadening material in the trunk? I am on a budget and have some second skin, I just want to know if I should deaden the trunk or the inside of my car first. The box I have built has to be put together in the trunk because it is bigger than the trunk opening, so once it is in it is really in. I have a 15" XCON being powered by a DC 5.0K at 2 ohms (2300 watts nominal). Should I deaden the trunk or concentrate on the interior of the car, best bang for my buck? Thank you for your help.

    Sealed trunk deadener question

Shogen I asked the question here because I wasn't getting any thoughtful answers on es em dee. Just a bunch of guys saying "just go ahead and do it". I ask here and I got a response that makes me feel there is some thought and experience behind it.

    alternators

Mike Singer is a very good guy to deal with. I had a 350 amp alt from him in my 2007 F150 and he helped me out with every question I had and even tested the alt twice (I paid for shipping to him). He is a great guy, very knowledgable and understanding.

The new Passats have some pretty thin sheet metal so I plan to eventually do most of the interior and trunk. But for now I'll see how it does without alot of deadener. As of now I am just staying with the stock alt, I haven't seen any high power alternators for this engine yet. It has the 2.5 inline 5 cylinder. I just got one XS XP3000 battery delivered the other day, might need two, but I'll see how it does. Again the 5.0K will only be ran at 2 ohms, so 2300 watts nominal shouldn't be too bad. When I get the box put in the trunk after it is painted, I'll work on getting it fully sealed off. There won't be much I have to do to seal it off, this box takes up most of the opening for the seat pass-through. In this picture the box wasn't pushed all the way foward...Just need to make some triangular pieces for the sides and a small stip on the top.

So I got a little done on the box, and it's almost ready for paint.

Need Some Advice, ZCON 15 or 2 ICON 12's

    Thank you for that explanation.
  21. I need some advice please. I just bought a 2012 VW Passat with plenty of space in the trunk and I have plans to upgrade the electrical. I have never had any subs in a ported box (and plan to build a ported box, 4.5 - 5 cubic feet, for this system), have never had subs bigger than 12"s and have never heard SSA subs. I have a DC 5.0K amp that I would like to run at 2 ohms, so I was thinking I could go with either 2 ICON 12" dual 2's or one ZCON 15" dual 1. I mostly listen to rock and metal music, but do enjoy some dub step and bass drops, so I would like to be loud but sound great doing it. What would you go with? Also the ported box will be facing foward sealed off from the trunk and tuned to around 35 hrz.

Okay, I just need to search and figure out what power compression is now. Thanks

Need Some Advice, ZCON 15 or 2 ICON 12's

Haha, I thought about XCONs too, but I am trying to stay at two ohms at the amp and I already have a brand new DC 5.0K, so that amp would either be too little at 2 ohms or too much at 1 ohm for the XCONs. The 5.0K would be perfect, at 2 ohms, for either 2 ICON 12s or 1 ZCON 15. I think I'll go with the ICONs when I am ready to order.

Need Some Advice, ZCON 15 or 2 ICON 12's

Thanks for the help everyone. I have a good grasp on car audio, but one thing I would like to know is, Aaron said the ICONs would make a better daily driver system as compareed to the ZCON. Why would this be? Everything I have read about the SSA subs say they all sound great and get low and loud. If I had the clean recommended power and space for the ZCON, why would it not make a good daily sub? I am thinking of taking most everyones input and going with the ICONs, but I would just like to know what makes a sub a good daily or a good competition sub. Thanks again.
