  1. I am thinking about running a set of Peerless SLS 8" mid bass drivers on my IA 3.4 amp. The Peerless SLS's are 8 ohms, so if I were to run the 3.4 bridged would I get around 110 watts per channel for an 8 ohm load?

  2. So I recently traded a Kicker 350.4 for two Tang Band W6-1721 drivers and now I have a question. I have never thought of this before and don't remember seeing it done, but on a four channel 2 ohm stable amp could you run two channels at 4 ohms and the other two at 2 ohms? I want to have the Tang Bands up front with my Tantric 6.5 components and in the rear doors have a second set of Tantrics.

  3. Man, I forgot about this. I have the Tantric 6.5's in and they sound great! Nice and authorative on everything I have asked them to play. The IA 6.4 is an awesome little amp as well. No pictures of the new set-up, I gave this car to my fiance and bought a 2001 VW Passat wagon that I am planning a bigger system for. I hope to get started on that soon.

  4. Just got my IA6.4 delivered today. I am very impressed with this little amp so far! I have a busy schedule, so hopefully I'll get the 6.4 installed soon along with the Tantrics. I can't wait to see the difference in sound going from a Kicker 350.4 powering the Rockford Fosgate to the IA6.4 powering the Tantric components.

  5. So I got some Tantric components in the mail. They are nice looking and feel good too. The box they came in was perfect on the outside (not beat up during shipping), but the inside of the box where the speakers were was torn and looked pretty bad. The speakers don't look like they were hurt or anything though. If Tantric had better packaging I would have no complaints so far. Hopefully I'll get these installed soon. I need to order another set and I have a new IA 6.4 amp coming soon for these.

  6. Currently I have one 15" XCON in a ported box powered by a DC Audio 5K at 2 ohms (2300 watts nominal). I built the box with .75" birch and double walled the whole box. I am thinking about getting the new IA Death Penalty and stepping down to a 12" sub. My question is, do you think I should build a double walled box for the 12" DP on a DC 5K at 2 ohms? I don't really want to mess around with dowels for bracing and fiberglass to hold them in.

And the XCON is great, I love it, but I have wanted a Death Penalty for a long time and need to step down in size so I can get some trunk room back for an air tank and compressors.

  7. Finally got out and made a video of this. It isn't a very good video, it's just a handheld regular camera that takes short vids. It didn't pick up the windshield flex or headliner vibrations very well, but here it is. Sorry about the wind noise.

  8. Chad - The Rockfords I have are nice, but they sit too far out with that thing that holds the tweeter on. The door panel doesn't sit flush against the door right now, there is about a 1/8" gap now. Not a big deal, but I was planning on upgrading to some Hertz in the future anyway.

The stock speakers are connected with a plug, so I'm not sure if the stock tweeter would still work unless you tapped into it. I ran all new speaker wire to the Rockfords.

The spacer is a must. I made mine out of 3/4" ply. I think the stock speakers were 6 1/2".

PM me if you have anymore questions.

  9. Thanks Nem.

Wow awesome man.  Glad I found this thread. I'm in the process of putting in a ported 12" XCON in my Passat TDI.  I'd love to pick your brain on best practices to get all the trim panels off, power ran, etc.

did you do the BIG 3 upgrade at least.  Seems like you're running TONS of power for stock electricals. although you do have the battery I guess.

Why not utitlize the rear battery mount that's used for the V6 models?

anyway looks great and looking forward to following this!

Chad, ask away. I took my time and figured everything out without breaking any of the car. I'd help you out with whatever I can. I haven't done the big 3 yet, one of these days I'll crawl under the engine and take the rock guard off so I can axcess everything. I do have an XS battery up front and one in the trunk. This is a lease car, so I didn't want to drill any holes, evrything I have done can be undone! Thanks for the words.

  10. So it is in and playing. Not quite done yet, but it sounds good and loudish... not loud compared to most of you guys, but the loudest I've ever had. I didn't take many pics, but you'll get the idea.
