    2007 Civic Coupe SB2 build (non-wall, non-trunk)

Can't wait to get out there, Steve... But first, my new arrival. Beware, subwoofer porn to follow. I know most people have seen the EVIL18, but I am going to post my pics anyway. Holy Sweet Mother of Bass this thing is Huge. I have to commend SSA on their packaging. This thing could serve as a bomb shelter for small animals. And introducing EVIL18: Once again, I am amazed by the sheer size and presence of the thing. Granted this is my first comp level sub. Here are some pics what I think are the much talked about upgraded leads: And it wouldn't be a complete post without my comparo shot. Old sub vs. new sub: Other than the U.S. vs. Portugal game (U.S.A!, U.S.A.!, U.S.A.!), I plan to spend most of the weekend on the enclosure and will probably pick up a battery or two.

Absolutely, jay-cee. A lot more work ahead, but at least now I have both the time and equipment to continue the build.

A millennium later... woohoo, my Evil18 finally shipped. I seriously considered building the box ahead of time based solely on the dimensions, but decided against the idea. I think I also managed to grab a MS8, keeping my fingers crossed. The build is back on track...I will post pcs when it arrives.

    Evil 18 dimension

Thanks guys. And yes, the excursion comment was a joke...

    Evil 18 dimension

Does anyone know the measurement between the underside of the mounting flange and the top of the surround of an EVIL18? I don't know how closely USACi monitors the below the window line rule. I sure hope I don't have to account for woofer excursion...

DSS Tridents and Twisted Sounds S-10. Road to 166dBs

Interested in how the plastidip works out. I checked out some of the sites and youtube videos. You can do some crazy stuff with plastidip.

    4 New 130lb Batts for <$1k

Is it safe to ask if two of these would outperform 2 XS D3100's? Even thought it does seem like an apples to oranges type deal...

So, I got a great deal on these JBL twelves. I think I may use these instead of the EVIL 18... Just kidding....Those are the old subs. I ripped out the old sub enclosure/amp rack. While dismantling it, I realized what crap it was...I had cut corners, skimped on quality of materials and workmanship. I will not make the same mistake, again. I have to admit while looking at some of the build logs I thought to myself, "Do I have the patience/conviction to build to the same quality as what I am looking at?" Well, I will certainly fight my tendency to lose focus near the finish. Here is all the hardware and wiring I had cobbled together for the old sub box. The Mc's and the XDP-210EQ(for now) will be the only carry-overs.

    VCM & Step module?

I am running a Mechman 220 on my 2007 Honda Civic. While the voltage does fluctuate due to the PCM controlled voltage, I usually see at least 14.0 volts. I have not encountered any problems with my current set-up, which draws maybe 150 amps at full tilt. I see around a .3 volt drop with only the starting battery. The real test will be the new install which will pull 450+ amps. The alt will be backed up by a couple of group 31's or more...

    2007 Civic Coupe SB2 build (non-wall, non-trunk)

Finally had some time to work on he car, so bye-bye back seat. I can see lots of sound deadening in my future. There is a lot of ring to all the metal panels. There is also a ton of road noise that the back seat used to suppress. There are a few welded-in brackets and explosive devices that I will have to build around, as there is no way in hell that I am going to mess with them. Luckily, with the side panels removed, I gained more width. So, I can afford to lose a little depth. I will probably build some kind of panel to seal off the trunk and cover up said artillery devices. I have some left over NVX deadening from my door panels, but I don't think it will be enough. I don't really subscribe to the 25% coverage rule. It seems that everyone has good things to say about SDS. Any others to throw into the mix? P.S. Pay no attention to the rat's nest of wiring. That will all be redone/modified for the new install.

Thanks jay-cee. I definitely need to pick up the pace. BTW, Steve Mead is now in the Dallas area. It'll be cool to have a build of that magnitude, locally.

Yeah, I really wanted to do a trunk build, but I just couldn't figure out how to put an 18 with that size enclosure in the trunk. I am surprised how close in price each woofer size is when you stay within the model line. I already had dual twelves, so I wanted to go a little more extreme. I probably would have gone a different route, if I didn't want to compete..

Work, weather, etc..., have kept me from further progress. I still have to tear out the back seat and rear panels next. I did get familiar with sketchup thanks to the how-to. This is my initial concept: I should wind up with at least 8.5 cubes net, tuned to 32hz. I will use some type of 10" flared port. I am worried that 75 square inches of port may not be enough.
