    15" nightshade specs.

Recommended 3-3.5ft net volume per NS 15" displacement is like 0.22ft

Sundown Audio sa-12s Bass Boxing vids

Last round was rough with both doors open. Average score was a 148.76.

    16 Sundown sa-12s Build

Also if we had done 16 NightShade 12s then we would have wanted 16 saz-3500s to power them. Seriously, we did think about that. That would have meant more batteries too and we're already running out of room. The backseat will still remain fully functional after we pull four amps. The absolute most that can fit behind the backseat in between the box is 8 batteries and 4 amps. The best sub choice to get powered off that was the sa-12s. Here's another vid from this weekend. 3rd round Bass Boxing holding just over a 150 in the LightWeight class. That's with both front doors wide open. I have the vids from the other runs but there not so impressive because he was holding back so much.

    prepped ready for install

Assuming they have the cooling option then they'll handle quite a bit more than that MM4000 can give them. Not sure if you saw it or not but we had a saz-3000 @ 0.5 on each of Jay's NS 18s in his white Magnum at SBN. It would play music full tilt all day long.

A couple more vids doing some drive-by test runs. 128.8db 130.8db I think it'll get better & better as we figure out the right combo of window position, truck position, and song choice.

How would you rate the sound of them compared to some of your other spl subs?

I haven't checked all the specs listed above but the 1st thing that stands out is you didn't account for sub displacement. Allow 0.25ft for a NightShade. What is your max height, depth, and width? You have the basic box shape right but go with external aeros towards the driver's side. Two 4" ports will work fine with the single 12". Might need to go with a little bigger box to get tuning where you want it though. I'm thinking something around 1.85ft with a pair of full 17" length 4" aeros. Tuning will be 44hz. PSP has a good aero port calculator on their website if you need help with actual tuning. http://www.psp-inc.com/tools.html

Is your port like 2" x 12"? If so you need to make it more square. Skinny ports suck for spl. Depending on the exact port dimensions I'm figuring tuning is around 38hz. You need to make a rectangle shaped box with equal height and depth. Then use a single 6" aeroport to the driver's side. Test it out with the sub up then turn the box and test it with sub forward. I'm not familiar with the truck so I don't have a clue what to tune it to. You're gonna have to test, tune, re-test, & re-tune for that. For spl I would start out with a 40hz tune and work my way from there.

    16 Sundown sa-12s Build

Running 8 amps was a one time thing for this event only. We'll be rebuilding the amp rack to hold 4 amps behind the rear seat. Short term goal is a 154 sealed, qualify 153 Bass Boxing, and 135s drive-by. There's still some more work I'm gonna do to the box. Mostly pretty stuff. Not looking to see an spl gain from it. We'll be totally gutting the truck soon to do a full install of some Second Skin Damplifier Pro. It currently has zero aftermarket sound deadening. I am looking to see a decent gain in spl from that.

    16 Sundown sa-12s Build

With all 8 amps it hit a 155.2 @ 41hz. Amps were very conservatively set. Actual power was around 20k watts total; 1,250 watts per sub. We swapped to only 4 amps for Bass Boxing and still hit a 153. Most impressive thing to me was that it was able to Bass Box over a 150 with both front doors open. Anyone that's ever done it or seen it knows that your #s tank badly when opening that passenger door in the third round. Look for this thing at SBN next year. We're coming for the LightWeight belt. Also look for this thing at some Meca events next season. During the final BassBoxing run it also hit a 126.9 on the other meter that was 12ft straight in front the truck on the judges table. I'm thinking it'll do some decent drive-by #s.

No-Wall 0-24 record is a 155 & change. Since there isn't any power limit it makes that a tough class. You would do better in Truck/Suv although then you would be against me depending on how much power you run. I currently hold the 0-1800 record with a 150.3 off 1486 clamped watts. Probably gonna run 1801-3600 from here on out though.

    16 Sundown sa-12s Build

Yes there are going to be eight Sundown saz-3500s in there this weekend only for Nspl finals. Two amps strapped on four subs @ 0.5ohm (0.25ohm per amp). After this weekend four amps will get pulled and the amp rack reworked to hold just four amps. As soon as they're in stock four new Sundown saz-4500s will get swapped in here.

    4x Sundown SA-12s On Music - VIDEO

Nah, if that was the case then I would be telling you that you absolutely must upgrade to a saz-3500d. Seriously though, a saz-2000d on three sa-12s @ 0.67ohms will work great.

    16 Sundown sa-12s Build

All three ports flared with the 1.5" bit. Test fitting the subs. The rest of the subs. As soon as I pick up a roll of speaker wire they'll all get installed. The only thing left is the corner bracing and threaded rod. I started installing the threaded rod tonight but didn't get finished. All that will get done tomorrow.

    16 Sundown sa-12s Build

Today's work. Got all the sub holes cut. Shot of the ports from inside the box. Time to flush & flare the ports from the outside. After the flush bit. I flare it in stages. First a 3/4" bit then two passes with the 1.5". Pictured here the center is flared 1.5" & the two outside ports are flared 3/4".

    Frustrating Day

I'm gonna take a wild guess that this place is a JL dealer and they want you to buy a JL amp.

    16 Sundown sa-12s Build

The ports are completely done & mounted and the box itself is assembled. I had pics but after an issue with my memory card they all got deleted. Won't be able to get back on this til Monday. Then all the sub holes will get cut, corner bracing will be added, and all thread bracing installed.
