    New Build with ZCON

When I had the 2.5k it just didnt seem like the sub was getting enough power. After box rise I bet the sub was lucky to see 2k or if that maybe.

    New Build with ZCON

Thanks guys, i went with 4k to make sure the sub was getting what it needed. Didnt want the amp to be maxed out either. I think the 4k should be a good upgrade from the 2.5k.

    ZCON RE CONE

Well i'm not quite back up and running, still have to buy a new amp and electrical to support it since i'm going bigger than the saz-2500d I was running.

    ZCON RE CONE

Those pictures are from before the recone. I thought it looked like it had some kind of adhesive on it also. I just got it back from SSA for a recone so it's good to go now.

    ZCON RE CONE

Yeah bought it new and it looked like this after 2 years of use. I have no ideal how it ended up in that condition. It looks perfect now after a recone but I don't want it to end up like those pictures. If there's an explanation that explains how it got like that then I would love to hear it so I make sure it doesn't happen again.

    ZCON RE CONE

What do you guys think would of caused this? The top side of surround showed no damage.

    ZCON RE CONE

I'm not doubting the durability of SSA's subwoofers. I just think the condition mine ended up in was kind of odd and not really explained. I look forward to giving the Zcon another run and hopefully I will be happy with it.

    ZCON RE CONE

Good equipment pays off, im probably going with ampere audio for my new amp. I like the sundown I had but don't want to pay extra for the name.

    ZCON RE CONE

I'm just north of Charlotte, NC, it gets cold but nothing terrible. During January and February we do get down in the teens at night but during the day it's usually above freezing. I don't feel like it should be having any effect on the subwoofers condition. I let my car warm up for a while in the mornings during these conditions also. However if I have similar issues again then I might consider a different brand subwoofer if SSA's products can't hold up. Hopefully things go a little bit better for me this time around.

    ZCON RE CONE

No I didn't blow it up, just needed freshened up. The surround had a lot of stress cracks and a few decent cracks on the underside of it that I didn't like. I made a thread with some pictures a while back.

    ZCON RE CONE

Got the Zcon back today and the thing looks brand spanking new. Really happy with the outcome and big thanks to SSA for doing such a great job. Im still needing an amp, batteries, and wiring to get this build rolling. May be first of the year before this happens, waiting on bonus and tax money to fund the rest of the project. Will update when I get the rest of the things needed.

    Auto detailing

Im really happy with Wolfgang products but there a little pricey. I polished with an orange/medium pad with there total swirl remover followed with there finishing glaze with a white/polishing pad. Topped it off with there deep gloss paint sealant and I was happy with the results. This was done with Lake Country Hydro-Tech Pads and a Griots Garage Orbital to be specific.

    site down?

I had the same thought back when I was on the market for a sub and bought the zcon. I could fit a 15 in an optimal enclosure but its gonna require me building in the trunk. Wasn't trying to do that but things have changed since my original thinking and im very well considering moving to the 15 since I need to recone. Thanks for the opinion man.

Thanks Aaron, do you think I would notice a big difference from the 12 to the 15?

    site down?

I didnt get any email, I have been getting notifications for fourm replies though. I know the 15" likes a little over 4 cubes for optimal or something like that. Was wondering what the max and min is for ported and ported optimal.

Was just trying to check out the box specs for a 15" zcon, when I do my recone I might try and squeeze a 15 in there.

    Singer Alternator Bad Customer Service

Well it was first the alternator and now the zcon. I better not go outside in a thunderstorm cause I feel like I might get struck by lightning lol. There is nothing old in the picture here, just some good products taking a shit on me unfortunately.

    Singer Alternator Bad Customer Service

I tend to be impatient and maybe jumped the gun complaining about him. I kinda felt bad afterwards but I knew the alternator was acting up and I reached out a couple times over a course of time when it first started acting up and it was just an explanation after explanation that it was something else. I dont like being put on the back burner when I know what I was seeing and hearing was the alternator. He shouldn't of pushed me off and should have let me ship it to him to be looked at when I first contacted him. Nothing last forever in the car audio world, just sucks mine failed as soon as it did and with him being a one man business you cant treat him like walmart. I feel like he makes good alternators and has good customer service when you have his attention. I haven't installed the alternator since getting it rebuilt but i'm not gonna give up faith on his alternators or reputation. I feel like my first alternator just decided it didnt want to do its job anymore and I shouldn't hold that against him. I have forgiven him for his excuses and I hope he has forgave me for bashing on him. Hopefully this one will last longer and prove his reputation and alternators. I tried to have the thread taken down over at caraudio.com so I wasnt leaving a bad mark on his name but had no luck in getting any help from anyone.

    my zcon is done

To start off I would like to say I have had a love hate relationship with my 12" zcon from day one and also noticed from day one that the surround had a soft spot in it but never questioned it cause it seemed to play just fine. It sounds fantastic on a handful of songs but lacks to play a variety of music very well which they claim this woofer to not be a "one note wonder". I know your enclosure has a lot to do with things so I thought maybe the zcon needed a better home so I moved it from 3 cubes @ 30hz to 2.5 cubes @ 32hz. The new box made a big difference but after having it in its new home for a while I still had a love hate relationship and found it lacking on a lot of music. I have recently pulled the system out of my car cause I just wasn't happy with it and decided I needed a change. Threw my amp up for sale and the box and woofer have just been sitting here in my room collecting dust the past few weeks. I then decided I was gonna keep my amp and closed the sale down on it literally today. I got tired of looking at my equipment collecting dust so I pulled the zcon from the box today to check everything out. Lets say I was not happy with what I found... Soft spot in surround is actually a crack on the underside of it and I found many other small cracks that you couldn't feel or notice from the top side. It looks as if some kind of glue was smeared on the underside of the surround which I assume once dried became stiff. Imagine what would happen if you smeared super glue on some cloth and tried flexing it, its probably not gonna work too well. The coil looks black all around, particularly like it had an internal short from the pictures I googled. I don't recall what it was looking like when I first bought it new but I know it should be shiny copper and not black. Both coils measure out at 2 ohms like they always have, I don't abuse my equipment and everything was setup right as far as i'm concerned. I'm not trying to bash SSA but I feel like this thing wasn't right from day one or my amp isn't putting out clean power and this thing got toasted before she even got broken in. I'm not gonna blame anyone or hold anyone responsible but I am gonna have my amp checked out for safe measures. Ill most likely send the zcon back to SSA for a recone but i'm unsure if ill run the zcon afterwards do to what I have seen and experienced. I have heard nothing but good about them and I feel like either I got a bunk woofer or my SAZ-2500D that I bought second hand that was suppose to be new which it sure as hell was flawless when I got it is putting out some dirty power. Maybe I got ripped on the amp but that still doesn't explain the surround being the way it is. Hopefully the amp will check out fine and I can find a new woofer or maybe give the zcon another try. This is not a bash thread, i'm just shearing my experience with everyone and looking to see what others have to say or think. Sorry for the long post, just wanted to be detailed about my situation and seek advice from the fellow bass heads.
