  2. Hello all. I was hoping to get some advice from the SSA community. I have a 2009 Sierra Ext Cab. Currently for substage i am running a 18" Zcon and AQ2200d. The box is 6.6cu ft. net @ 28hz. with 112sq in port area. Sub is firing forward behind drivers seat, port is up. The whole truck has been deadened other than the roof (not too much flex). Pics can be seen im my build thread. Since the pics i have added the AQ2200d and changed the tuning from 34hz to 28hz with a port extension. (the port now fires up from the top front instead of the top back) Changing the tuning really helped with my lows but its still not quite where i want it to be volume wise. Some songs that slammed in my Monte Carlo are just not very loud in the Sierra. In my 98 Monte Carlo with 15" Mag and 1200watts i feel it was louder that my 18" Zcon with 2200watts in the sierra. (to my ear) I know im comparing apples to oranges but my goal is to be at least as loud as my mag was. The mag was metered at 145 in my monte carlo. I am wanting to build another box to try and get louder. I would like some suggestions on which way to fire the sub and port to try and increase output. I was considering firing sub forward and port to passenger side, or sub up and port up. does anyone else have suggestions for silverado/sierra ext cabs? Also, Should i try decreasing port area a bit? Aaron recommended 105 for 7cu ft. I went with 112 for 6.6 cu ft. in my box. And lastly, There is no port noise at all and it seems like there should be more airflow than there is, i am concerned that my box may have alot of impedance rise since it doesnt seem like the sub is moving anywhere near xmax. anyway to test the box rise? I have a clamp meter and multimeter. (And yes gains are set right, all settings doubled checked) Any help or suggestions welcomed. Many Thanks. Darren

    I wanted to have the amps underneath the platform as well, but there wasnt near enough room under there for even one of them. I would have posted pictures along the way but i didnt really have the time, i work 10 hours a day, them worked 2-3 hours a night on the truck, I just didnt have the chance to make a build thread along the way. i know my bad.

So i got a new truck, 2009 Sierra SLE Ext Cab Short Box (4.8L V8) Performance mods so far: K&N Cold Air Intake, MBRP XP Series Stainless Dual Catback Exhaust Decided to go with the 18 Zcon for a sub. Only 1200watts for now, plan to drop in a AQ 2200 asap. Sounds great already though. System Specs: Stock 145a Alternator Stock Battery Kinetic HC2400 (2 runs pos, 2 runs neg between batts) Big 3 All Kinetic Wiring Tsunami Fuse Terminals Pioneer Premier P690UB US AMPS MD1D (1200rms) and MD23 (300rms x2) CDT ES-6MO, DRT-26a, Upstage Tweeter, 560 Xover SSA Zcon 18 D2 (6.6cu ft @ 34hz) 80sq Feet RAAMmat BXT II (doors, back, part of floor) 25^ft eDead Xtreme (Floor) Just finished the build tonight so i have some time to make this thread. Enjoy and let me know what you think! Should have taken more pics of the sound deadening, the whole interior was torn out and the entire back, back wall, floor and front doors are all deadened. it was well worth it too, with windows & doors closed there is barely any noise from the outside. No major vibration sounds either. The Headboard was vibrating real back in the back against the frame, 0.5" thick foam strips between the two solved the problem. no major vibrations now. this truck is build solid! The Truck: The Sub (Other sub used to compare is Stereo Integrity Mag 15) Under The Hood. 2 runs 1/0 Through the stock grommet Ground Distro for stock battery i made out of aluminum: Battery spacer plate i made out of 1/2" plate steel (the Hc2400 was too long and would have hit the truck's CPU without raising it with this plate. Utilizes stock tray screws and threaded rods to mount battery.) RC Car Tire cut up and used to prevent battery from sliding: Custom made fuse bracket by me (uses shock tower bolts and self tappers into the side of the frame)
  9. it just occured to me that i should have been looking at how much the dust cap moves rather than the surround. i will see how much the dust cap is traveling tonight.
  10. not very scientifically, just with my finger lol, i put it about 1/4 way (6mm) from the surround and played music, and it was hitting my finger, any further and it wasnt, definately no-where near 1/2" or 12mm of travel. does anyone have a more accurate way to measure xmax? maybe a ruler and video camera + slo mo?
  11. Well i finally got around to setting my gains with the dimm to 1200watts exactly. I have also solved the last couple vibration problems (had to put foam between the headboard and frame.) with the gain dialed in to 1200watts @ 50hz it is not nearly as loud as i want it. pushing the gain any higher results in audible clipping so i wont do that (was hard to distinguish before due to truck vibrations) i also got around to looking at my xmax (was just guessing before), id be lucky if the sub is moving 6-8mm with my amp. I have therefore decided to upgrade to the aq2200 asap as i feel the extra power will make a big difference since im seeing such small travel now. Im gonna try it with the electrical i have now, if it cant keep up, ill turn the gain on the 2200 down until i can afford more electrical to back it up. I also ordered a DC Clamp meter so i can get an idea of exactly how much i am stressing my alt and how much my system is pulling. Thanks again for the advice all.
  12. thanks for the advice guys . i think im gonna stay with 1200for now. gotta get a feel for the zcon before'i decide. but it does seem like its moving at least 3/4 in so there is probably a bit more headroom.
  13. So i just got my Zcon 18 installed in my 6.7 cu. ft. Net Box. it is tuned at 34hz with 112 sq in port. Currently its running off US Amps MD1 (1200rms) and gets pretty **** loud. This is a Great sub, well built and very good looking. not quite as good sq as my Stereo Integrity Mag V3 but its close. (that could also be due to the higher tuning as the mag was in a 28hz box.) Im wondering, would it be worth it to double the power to 2400watts? for a daily application would it really be much louder? the sub already moves pretty good as is. If i upgraded it would be to this: Audioque AQ2200D ($430) DC Power SPX270 or XP300 Alternator ($590 or $500) Kinetic HC2000 to replace stock battery ($220) **in addition to my HC2400** So the total cost of moving up to 2400rms would be around $1200. is it really worth that much to double the power for daily? realistically what could i expect to see? a 2-3db increase? thanks for any advice.
