    Pictures of your new equipment

Here are a few "new" (to me, anyway) pieces of equipment I'll have this week: I also have an a/d/s 450MX amp, a bnib set of a/d/s 320 tweeters, and a couple of sets of Kef Uni-Q drivers en route. It's gonna be like Christmas in November!

Another day, another head unit. Let's make that 5 in one week.

I know I have a car audio addiction when......

I know I have a car audio addiction when I have a hundred pounds of primo old-school gear coming from opposite ends of the country, and I've already changed my plans and know I probably won't be using any of it in my install. I know I have a car audio addiction when I buy four head units in a week because each one was way cooler than the last and too cheap to pass up, then realize I'll have a hard time outdoing the Addzest DRX9255 I've been hanging on to for the last year. Hey, at least I'll have choices. I know I have a car audio addiction when I finally score an Alpine 7909, then realize I won't be able to sleep at night knowing the poor old Alpine is a prime target for the first crackhead with a brick to come rip it out of my dash. Oh wait, it's a first-gen 7909, so it's a pull-out. Crisis averted. I know I have a car audio addiction when I dig through the stuff on my desk and find a set of tweeters I don't remember buying. Finally, I know I have a car audio addiction when I find myself selling off my "keeper" USA Series US Acoustics amps with the intention of simplifying my new install with a single amp. This "simplification" will result in my spending the exact amount I paid for my car ($600), ten years ago. For a single amp. Damn. Yes, it's official. I've lost my freaking mind.

    2 ohm components

You can get 2 ohm Orion HCCA mids on ebay for $120 shipped. I don't know about tweeters.
  6. After trying to work out a place to fit my Mpyre 65Ms in my Tercel wagon, I realized it wasn't going to happen. I sold them and bought a new pair of Hertz Space 6 mids. The Hertz are 2" shallower 2" than the Mpyres, which will allow me to build some kick pods for them. Is anybody here running the Space 6 in kicks? How do they sound? The only constant in my system over the last year are my DLS R4 comps. I bought them last year for a steal. The 4"s are mounted in the stock under dash locations in the Toyota, with the tweeters in the outboard AC vents. The stage is about a block wide, and the mids have amazing punch for a 4" I'm driving them with an Aura Force 250-A, and will be powering the Hertz with a Force 340-A. Bringing up the rear is a pair of Aura MR52 Braxials (I know, but I've always liked the sound of rear fill) on another Force 250-A, and an Aura NS10 sub in a .65 cu ft sealed box with... you guesed it... another 250-A. The head unit is a P880PRS. All this in a $600 hoopty with 363k+ miles on it. I love my car.

    Well Here I Am...

Just dropping by to say hey to everybody. I'm waaay too old for this, but I'm doing it again. I've been a fan of car audio since I heard my first real system back in 1984. There was a guy named Sid who owned a car stereo store, and he came by to show off his new install in his 76 or 77 Monte Carlo. It was a typical installer's car... Wires all over the place, cassette deck sitting on the hump. It had a single sub firing up through the parcel shelf under that big "V" back glass. He played "One Thing Leads to Another", by The Fixx. I got queasy from the bass, and I've been looking for that same feeling ever since. My new system is about to come together in my 1986 Toyota Tercel wagon. I've been saving a new Hafler MSE88tn for years, and it's going to drive my Polk Momo MM455s in the rear, and DLS R4s in the front. I just picked up a Lightning Audio Storm X1.12.VC2 sub that's going in a small sealed box, and I've located an amp that'll put out well over 1000WRMS @ 4 ohms, and it'll fit into the space I want to use. The deck will be a Premier DEH-P880PRS. This will be a far cry from the first real system I built for myself back in 1990. I had a Merkur XR4Ti with an Alpine 7903, 2 pre-HD Fosgate Punch 45s (one driving a pair of Punch 10" in a sealed box, and one driving my Sony components in the rear, a Hafler MSE40di (the first one in NC)driving Boston Acoustics Proseries 4.1s in the front, and a Coustic XM3 crossover. I loved that system, and the SQ was great. I expect the new system will be as well, but it'll hit harder, the deck will do a lot more, and everything cost so much less. Gotta love the power of the internet. That's about it. Thanks for letting me in here, and I look forward to hanging out.
