    help, need a box design.

can anybody help me with box design? i was just gonna make a box similar to the one i have in my escape for the ssd 12's but i kinda want something a little better. i listen to every type of music from bass music to jazz to rock. so the box would have to be versitile. the twelves only have copper coil option. i need help because the space is limited. i have a huge trunk but for some reason benz decided that was also a good place for the gas tank and spare. i am thinking that the port(s) should face up through the space in the rear deck that will be cutout. i have two sets of max measurements because one way the box would have to partially cover my amp and the other way it doesnt. first max measurments L:45x h:14 d:20 second set; L 36 x h 16 x d 20. i would like to try and get the depth lower than twenty if possible to make spare tire access easier. and i am also trying to keep at least 2cuft per woofer. if somebody has any old designs even similar to this it would be greatly appreciated. i would even consider buying a box that someone might be getting rid of cheap. thanks folks.

    help, need a box design.

i know this will sound dumb but the baffle is the divider between the woofers inside the box or is that the extra wood supporting the woofers in front?

    help, need a box design.

the box i have now has just under 2 cubes per woofer. originally i was just going to duplicate that box and maybe use aero ports cause even though this box slams i get port noise. i really want a box that fits in between the wheel wells of the benz so it looks a little neater, i just dont know how to get the correct port size. i am terrible at math and the box that i built had the port size figured out already. the box originally in benz clearer pic of box in escape here is the temporary crappy prefab and yeah i am not too fond of having ports facing different than the woofers either. lol

    second battery question

well, added another battery to the system (optima red) and got rid of that crappy cap. used 2 gauge wire since i already had abundance of it. grounded the amps to the battery and battery to frame, and man what a difference! even with the tiny alterator the increase in sound was amazing. i didnt realize how badly my mids and highs were distorting with my us amps drawing all that power. the bass is nice and hard lights arent dimming, this baby is ready for those ssd's. right now i have cerwin vega hed 15's in a sealed box that had to be re sealed after i blew it apart lol. i also found a guy that can make a 200amp alternator for my car for $280 shipped. if any body wants his email ill give it to you.

question on impedance loads on old school us amps

bridged output for 150x is 500 @4ohms, 150 is 450@2ohms. these amps are stable @ 2ohms per channel. only the 150 is stable @1ohm per channel. the 100 is stable @1 ohm per channel and bridged @2ohms. 100x stable @2ohms per channel. the100 can be bridged down to 2ohm, the100x@4ohm. like john said n/a NO. if you run these amps the right way they will last a lifetime even with abuse. i have had the 150 and the 400 since 99. i have 150 as backup; and im going to put ssd's on the 400, never had any problems with either. hope this helps ,my head hurts now.

    second battery question

thanks man i was worried for a minute, hell i thought 13' was a lot lol. ill be ordering the twelves in the morning. probably put the batt in before the superbowl(if i aint too drunk)

    second battery question

the second battery is going to be close to the amps. in the trunk. the alternator is a stock one it is a 55 amp i think. the largest one for my car is an 80. there arent many people sinking money into a 74 benz280se so there arent very many aftermarket parts for it. i already changed the battery ground and i was going to change the alernator lead too but there is a wierd plug on it that i would have to splice into. the cable running from the front to i estimate about 13' after twists and turns and some slack in the trunk for upgrades. this car is long! everything is fused also. i can probably make an extra bracket for the second battery under the hood if that will help.

    another box question

ill be ordering the 12" ssd's soon and temporarily they will be going in a prefab (i hate prefab) dual twelve box with the port in the middle. 2cuft per woofer. when i put my other woofers in there they were loud as f**k but when i played a song like bass mechanik moonstone that has a 20hz bassline they bottomed out and almost broke the voice coil. heres my dilemma i have been seing a lot of people use the boxes that are similar to the box i have exept the port isnt in the middle of the woofers its on the side.ex: http://subwoofertools.com/forum/ported-box...mp;Fs=&CE=0 all of the vids ive seen they either burp the woofers or they play some crap from jeezy, never any real music. does anyone know if these boxes can get low for bass mech and still sound good on other music like rock, jazz, and real hip hop? in other words is that box just for spl?

can us amps 400 (1999) be modified?

i was just wondering can the old 1999 us amps 400 be modified to do 1200 @1ohm bridged instead of its factory setting of 1200@2ohm bridged? just curious. i have read about people having amps modified and was wondering about this one. thanks for any info.

    delivery times

hi all. i will be buying some ssd's with copper coils as soon as my tax money hits my bank in a few days. i just want to know if this is a good time to order cause ive been reading that the guys are swamped. if i order just the regular woofer does that shave any off the build time? i live in NC so i figure with build time and ground shipping it should be about two-three weeks. is this a fair guess? just curious, wanna know about how long ill be waiting after dropping almost four hundred bones ya know? i hope this is in the right section, and someone can ease the anxiety as ive never ordered anything of this amount off the net before. thanks for anybody's help in advance.

    dvc 1 ohm

i did a search for this and the posts i got were confusing. i want to know the wiring options and ohm load for 1ohm dvc speakers; for one and two woofers. so ill know wether to get dual 2 or dual 1 when i order my ssd's. thanks for any info that can clear my foggy head.

    dvc 1 ohm

thanks that helps tremendously. looks like ill have to get the 2ohms.
  19. why toggle switches?youre overcomplicatting things. get a nice eq/crossover with fade and sub control and you can play with levels however you like. i used toggle switches when i was in high school to cut out my bass amps till one day the connection came loose and damn near burned my car to the ground! hope this helps.

    My baby died! ESX Q60.4

LOL ESX is no longer in business. check the net my man! esx is in business just not in america. they are going strong in germany in fact i have two esx signum woofers in and a q404 in my truck that i purchased from them and those woofers a beasts! the amp is clear as sunny day for my highs. heres a link for one store that carries their stuff its in german but i am sure that if you email them somebody would try to respond in english...money talks! http://www.wooferstore.de/carhifi/shopnew/...amp;filter_id=5 http://www.wooferstore.de/carhifi/shopnew/...mp;x=27&y=5 if youre interested i have a friend that is still in germany and he works at a shop that sell and repairs the esx brand i could try to call him and see what he can do for either repairs or a new one. he has quite a selection if youre interested.

    see if this makes sense

If I understand you correctly your using one coil from each woofer on each channel. If so that would only be 2 ohms per channel. You cant cheat ohms law thats why its ohms law and not ohms theory. hahahaha yeah you understood me correctly and well...the law is the law. when you put it so simple now i see the error of my ways; the two four ohm coils would only drop to 2 ohms(duh) if it were 2ohm coils it would drop to 1ohm. sorry me for wasting time with my half sleep ideas lol, and thanks for the answers.

    see if this makes sense

i was just thinking(usually dangerous) i have an amp that is1200 @2ohms mono, 600per channel@1ohm. presently i have dvc4 woofers if i hook them up the regular way i get 4ohm or 1ohm mono. i have been reading that some people hook an amp to both voice coils so each amp i guess would see 4 ohms off each coil, right? now heres the crazy part; shouldnt i be able to take the + - off one coil on one speaker then the + - off the other put them together on one channel and get 1 ohm? then do the same for the other coils and get the same for the other channel, now all four coils are running off two channels thus giving the amp its 1ohm per channel? . is this possible or am i thinking too much( i work midnights aint much else to do lol) i am not going to do this i have just been wondering about it for a while since i originally ordered the woofers for that amp but got the wrong vc set up and was too lazy too send em back.

    ssd12 question

whatup folks i was hoping someone can help me i just looked into the fi website and found the ssd12's. whats confusing me is the different options. here is my setup alpine cd/mp3, audiocontrol3.1, audiocontrol overdrive, and us amps400 rated 1200-1400@2ohms. here is the question can a pair of ssd 12's handle this without costly mods? i am not a competitor but i do like to pound sometimes without fear. i really want those ssd's but i dont want to spend 400 dollars just to have to spend nearly 200 more just to get mods. this is not a daily driver so it they wont be abused. i listen to everything from sade to tool to miles davis. they will be in the trunk of a 74 mercedes and the box will be ported if that makes any difference. any help is appreciated thanks!

    see if this makes sense

    yeah i think it does.

    see if this makes sense

i am not sure how else to 'slpain it. i know it sounds kinda funky, like i said i was bored and started thinking. but here is another stab at it : woofer 1+ to woofer 2+, then woofer1 - to woofer 2 - on one terminal those two pos and those two negatives on the should yeild 1ohm load on one channel. then take the remaining +'s -'s and hook them to the second channel. i should have 1ohm on right and 1ohm on left. what i am trying to do is to see if there is a way to get dvc4 to play at one ohm per channel. not 1ohm bridged. this is for the us amps 400 wich will do 600per channel @1ohm. it will do the 1200 bridged but @ 2ohms. since there isnt a config that will allow me to drop two 4ohm dvc's to 2ohm bridged iwas trying to find a loophole in ohms law to do one ohm per channel. i think i just confused myself well throw out a couple ideas if you guys wish, then throw this thread in the trash lol
