  1. Was using 1200 watts, but I'm moving to a smaller car and I'm going to put this in a box that's just below the min requirements. How many watts would this sub need? 300? 500? And I'm talking RMS watts. Thanks
  2. From what I can see online, the main purpose of external ports is to reach the proper tuning freq when the required port is too large to fit in the enclosure. The enclosure itself will be smaller, but the port will be large on the outside so the space savings is very small if any my situation.
  3. 10" in an optimal box will kill a 12" in a box too small Thanks for the quick reply. I'm still not sure I could even fit the 12" small ported through the trunk opening. Cardboard mock-up still leaves me unsure. Going with the 10" will make my life a lot easier anyway. I'd still be able to get to my spare without to much trouble.
  4. Thanks. Its looking like ported is the way to go. Now I just spend 30 minutes in the trunk of my car trying to see if there anyway the small 12" ported box would fit. If possible, is that something I should consider? 10" in optimal ported box or 12" in small ported box??? I'm in the process of getting my blown 12" replaced and am currently debating swapping it out for a 10". Thanks for all the replies.
  5. You mean something like a PVC tube bending outside of the box?
  6. Sorry, its a 2005 Mustang. Very small trunk.
  7. I have room for either one. Amp is an ED Nine.1 (1200 @ 1 ohm). My music preference is rap and I like deep bass and SPL. I'm sure either setup will satisfy my SQ requirements. Car is a 2005 Mustang. Very small trunk. Thank you

SSA ICON Series out of stock

Hmm. So I have an Icon I was just about to RMA (my own fault). Should I just wait?

Ported box with no Sub Sonic Filter.

Good information. Thanks to everyone that posted. Now a question about tuning. What kind of difference in output would I get tuning a box to 30hz versus 33hz. Icon 12 is fine for use in this example.

deep bass rap, LOL, that isn't deep There are a lot of rap songs with deep bass. What's deep to you? It's not deep on the musical spectrum, bass itself isn't. Unless you listen to pipe organ music you don't listen to anything deep. So what do you all play that's deep? Sin waves? Why are you asking? Most people don't play stuff that deep. Just curious and trying to figure out what is deep that people actually play if rap isn't deep. It appears almost everyone with a ported box uses an SSF, but if rap isn't that deep what are they playing that requires them to use one.

Cool. Has anyone used this before? I've only experience with the non-adjustable fmod's and they cut the output down a lot.
  14. Is it possible to tune a box low enough to protect the sub from the damaging fqs? My amp is an older JBL 1200.1 with no built in SSF. I was looking at either an icon 10 or 12. Main problem is I listen to mostly deep bass rap and I don't want to hurt the sub.
  15. Cool, I'm just waiting right now to see if I can pay to trade in my broken Icon for an Xcon. Just waiting to hear back from Aaron.
