    2009 Pontiac G6 Build

Hey there! I too have a Pontiac G6 I'm working on. I have an 08 coupe, so I'm not sure if the trunks are identical, but I would think they are close. I made a model box, and the max dimensions that would fit through opening are 26x35x14. This was with the spare tire mat/carpet out. I will probably make my box only 25x35x13.5 to be sure removal is easy. The headliner and rear deck are terrible rattle traps in this car, which makes subs forward is a great idea Imo.

Anyone willing to help me out with an enclosure?

The Torres calculator is good for slot ports, but what do you guys recommend for aero port calculators? Edit, I see the spot for tube port values now....Doh! Is there any factor that needs to be added for the flares on aero ports?
  3. I hear ya! I too am anxiously awaiting 2 Xcon 12s.................can't Finn wait!! I only paid on the 17th, so I have a bit still. Aaron, is the delivery time around 1 month?

New gear is AWESOME!! Nice collection of goods here Can't wait for my Xcons to get here...
  5. Hello all, Would you mind giving wiring advice for my Pontiac G6? Here is what I currently have: 1 yellow top in engine bay, no rear battery yet. Big 3 done with knuconcept 1/0 1 run of power wire to trunk I am grounding off frame in trunk, but when I tested the impedance I got a low # (don't remember exact #) Standard alt I will be running 2 Xcons 12s D1, with most likely a BC3500. I have a BC2000 for now. These will be trunk mounted with fold down seats. I will be buying a amp for the component speakers, not sure what yet? This is a daily driver, so I want it to get as loud as possible while still sounding tight over a wide array of music. I mainly listen to 1)bassy house stuff, 2) rock (Marylin, rob zombie) and 3) rap. I do run the system full tilt on the highway for up to 45min some days. My questions: I was thinking I needed 2 batteries, correct? Which ones? Do I need 2 runs of power wire to trunk? Should I add 1 run of ground wire to the trunk? Any issue running the front & power runs next to each other as long as protected well? Do you have any issues with circuit breakers? I do like the ease of cutting off the power with them, when working on things. Should a high amp alternator be on the "to Buy" list as well? (I'm pretty sure the answer is yes here) I know its a lot of questions, but I like to thorough before dropping big chunks of $$ (at least in my mind it is). Thanks for taking time to point me in the right direction Jason
  6. New wire is here Would anyone mind recommending quality solder and flux? Thanks
  7. Excellent craftsmanship!! I've learned a bunch from you already. Thanks for taking all the time to create the videos. I'm not sure I want to embarass myself with an amateur's build log now...doh!!
  8. Ok, I can do that! I have soo many questions on box design, I hope you all don't get annoyed with me 2 more wiring questions here 1st: What is the best solder to use for lug installation on cable? Are some flux brands that are better than others? And 1 non elecrtical question: What jig do you recommend for cutting sub holes with a router? No way I trust my free hand skills with a jigsaw. Thanks!
  9. No problem with calibrating, I have a craftsman DMM. Obviously not top of the line, but should be fine. Thanks for confirmation on the alt, luckily we're getting some overtime in this weekend too That should do it on the electrical upgrades, until I can save up for the BC3500.........or should I just get the 5500? Lol On to box building for beginners... Great news on this end! With a quick cardboard fab today, I think I'll be able to get 7.6ft^3 gross. I'm pumped the Xcons can breath. Where would you suggest I go with this, Build logs?
  10. Good read on breakers, thanks Proof! Fuses it is. Mecman is leading the race for a new alt. Should I just get the 320a big daddy in case I go even bigger in a year or two? I'll have the $ for that next week. Ordered some 2/0 welding wire. I just bought enough ground wire to go from the amp to the frame in the trunk, and a few runs in the engine bay. Is this adequate, or do I need a full run from amp to the front battery? I need a good voltage meter, what do you guys recommend? I see stinger getting used often.

2012 Fusion All Sundown Everything! Start Pg. 14

You have become quite the box builder throughout this journey....nice work! Are you making all your cuts with a skillsaw? Very impressive if so I never saw a tablesaw in any of the pics. Sine you are obviously in this for the long haul, you may want to get a $50 hand held hydraulic crimper from Harbor Freight. I had to grind out one of the chucks to make it fit well on 1/0 terminals, but it makes them come out nice.
  12. New alternator and 2/0 wiring it is. Thanks guys! Do I need to run a 2/0 ground wire as well, or does this depend on voltage drop? Bassnk, if you would pm your prices on wire, im interested.

    2 XCons en route...woohoo

Hello All, I'm still an amateur (not quite a noob) in the car audio game, but I enjoy learning. It looks like you have a great forum here. I just ordered 2 12" D1 XCons to go in the trunk of my Pontiac G6. It feels like Christmas is coming 2 months early!! Yeehaaa!! From what I have read the SSA subs get nothing but praise, so I can't frikkn wait! I haven't done a ton of research on this yet, but I'll ask it here anyway. How would you recommend I configure my subs in the trunk? I have roughly 4ft^3 to play with. This leaves very little space on either side of the box for air to push into the passenger compartment with the back seats folded down. I also have a 6" aero port I would like to use for the enclosure if suitable. All opinion would be appreciated, and I look forward to learning much from you guys. Cheers!! Jason

Would you recommend I get a 2nd battery before a larger amp? I currently just have a yellow top in the engine bay. Would a XS battery (or comparable) operate alright with the yellow top until I could get 2 matching batteries? Thanks

    2 XCons en route...woohoo

Thanks! My wife thinks I'm an absolute tard for spending $825 on just subs. I better not tell her how much 2 batteries and alt is gonna cost.....DOH!!! Question for you guys: Is the bass control I have on the BC2000 interchangeable with other amps, say an AQ3500? I would guess at least the wire is interchangeable, correct? I would prefer not to rerun a new wire when getting a larger amp if possible. I will be starting a new thread to sell/trade my BC2000 for something along the lines of a BC3500 or AQ3500 soon. Just need to snap a few pics. My BC2000 is mint, with both original boxes.

I have considered this, as box volume is a limiting factor in my G6. Since I already have 1 BC2000, would strapping another for each Xcon be a viable solution?XCONs sealed are insanely clean. I would follow jay-cee's advice. Run them at 1 ohm and decide if you want more later. The accuracy and output of xcons is staggering. I've heard two 15's sealed at ~1000RMS a piece and was VERY impressed. You have me seriously considering building a sealed box. Construction is soo much easier, plus it WOULD be nice to still have a trunk. Would a BC3500 be enough for the Xcons sealed?

Ok. What kind of power could the Xcons handle in a sealed box?
  19. Can't wait to get 2 new Xcon 12's.................yeeehaaaaawwwww

I've done a little measuring, and if I'm lucky I will be able to fit a 35.5x14x20" box in the trunk. This gives a gross internal volume of 4.55ft^3. Subtract .17ft^3 for each sub and .28 for 6" x 17" long aero port, it yields 3.93ft^3 of net air space. Should I be posting all this over in one of the main sections? Thanks

    2 XCons en route...woohoo

It's obviously a daily driver, so I want it to sound clean & tight, while getting as loud as possible when the mood arises. My seats do fold down, but I can get a larger box through the trunk opening than from within the car. Unfortunately I do not know the exact size of box that will fit in through the trunk yet. I'm going to mock up a cardboard template this weekend. I'm fairly certain a 14" tall x 34" wide x 19" deep box will fit. This equates to 5.23ft^3 on the outside. Is the 6" aero port a good choice? Current power on tap is a BC2000, but that will be replaced by most likely a BC3500 soon. Wiring is sound with big 3 on 1/0. I will need another battery for trunk and prob a bigger alt as $ & wife allow lol. ....and lots of deadner....This thing rattles like crazy now with just 2 type R 12s. Thanks for your input!
