Hello All- I have made the decision to move back to California and my last day at Mechman will be Wednesday, May 9th. All of your questions for sales, technical assistance or anything else can be answered by any of the other staff here at Mechman, and they will be present here on the forums just as I have been. This has been a great experience, one that added much knowledge on top of my years of experience, and it is unfortunate that life has pulled me back to California. I am thankful for my time working here at Mechman, for the customers I have helped, and for the people I have met, and leave here with new friends, business associates and knowledge that I can share with the community in my future efforts. I will not be competing with Mechman's business, I am not going out on my own in this market, but I do expect to maintain a presence in the car audio community in some aspect. Michael, Josh and Matt will be here to help you with any of your needs, and my emails will be forwarded to them once I leave Mechman. If it's something that we were discussing before my departure they can pull up the conversations or even contact me if they need info. Demoing at idle is bad with just about any charging system and battery combo. The alternator uses it's fans to shed the heat generated as a product of power production and needs to be at speed to cool properly.

i get it for cars that are PCM controlled you need the voltage regulator lol sorry for the stupid question i have a 2005 jeep grand cherokee V6 would i need a voltage regulator and whats the price on those regulators ? Your Jeep will use an entirely different unit. You have a PM on the other forum with pricing.

If the belt came off the pulley then you have one of 3 problems, belt too long, improperly tensioned or misaligned. Keep in mind that this alternator uses a lot more power to turn than your OEM, and this power is taken from the engine via the accessory belt. As the output increases the horsepower required increases as well. You won't feel this spinning it off the car with no load, but once it's energized it's going to increase that load. Check the belt alignment as mentioned above, if it is not aligned properly then steps will need to be taken to align the unit in the car. If it is aligned then you will need to properly tension a properly sized belt to make this function properly. At times you will get some belt slip from high output alternators due to poor belt wrap, poor tension or simply the lack of belt surface (narrow belt) when it is under load.

Yep, that mount style is very common with Dodge and Jeep. The real difference is in the plug on the alternator, a couple different plug designs and the early models use ring terminals. These are a solid unit, I'm even going to adapt one to my 5.0 in my Volvo, efficient, quiet and powerful sounds good to me.
