    Xcon on the way!

Somewhat on the way, I just ordered it today. It's too bad the lead time is so long. I installed an Icon last summer in a buddies car so I can't wait to see what the Xcon is like. Positive feedback is encouraged I haven't had a sub in my truck for over 2 years!!!

    Xcon on the way!

45 days!!! This is going to be brutal just waiting! I hope I get it sooner than that. I will have to try hard to forget about it, as I haven't had low end in my truck for far too long. I'll be running the sub with about 1700 rms. I think this should be enough

    CSS SDX 12?

I'm in a real debate with myself here. The SDX sounds like a solid contender, but I'm getting out of the let's see how loud I can play my music and focus on a solid sound quality application. Not an all out SQ where I'm RTA'ing and fine tuning to a flat response, but something that will play reasonably high in the freq, and not drop off at 60hz naturally, and play relatively low, as I do listen to music that extends down to 30-25hz. I will be doing a sealed enclosure based on space saving alone. I have not bought an amp yet, as this will be the last thing i get after I purchase the sub. I'm good at researching, however I cannot find any good info on the SDX. The Le and the low Fs sound very appealing, and also the xmax to held with those really low notes. What I'm asking for is some real world experience and what you like about this sub. I've had my eye on the Icon and the Xcon for some time, and before I jump on one of these I'd like some subjective opinions on what you like about the SDX, or if it should be an option for what I looking to achieve. Thank you!

    CSS SDX 12?

I meant that I have never heard a Dayton driver in person. I have heard of the company. I do a lot of research before purchasing anything, and I did come across the Dayton drivers, both the Ultimax and the HO. I'd rather base my purchase off of experience from others than specs alone. The specs may sound great, but doesn't mean it will sound great. there are plenty of shitty subs with good reviews.. speakers just do as they're told. and modeling is about as close to an objective comparison you'll ever get. Based on modeling, the Xcon would get my vote, as it seems to have a wider response and extends a little lower than the others I have modeled, unless I model the Dayton with the optimal box size. The Dayton with a .707 Qtc is around 6.5 cubes for a box. IB would be great with this, but I don't have this option.

    CSS SDX 12?

I drive an SUV. I have never heard a Dayton driver, so I'm a little hesitant. Maybe even the price makes me nervous a bit. I'm totally open to something new, but I don't mind mind spending a little more for something that is a little better. I have done an install with an Icon and it sounds great.

    Subwoofer Dilemma

Le only affects transient response (and not the entire transient behavior, only the impulse response) in so far as it affects the high frequency response of the driver. For the 13AV.2, the Le was around 4.7mH with an Re of 4.9ohm. This puts the corner frequency (-3db) at 166hz. So the Le was creating a lowpass filter with a crossover point of 166hz. Basic crossover theory stipulates that you would want this Le corner frequency atleast an octave above your intended operating bandwidth (i.e. the active LPF). Where did you lowpass the sub? It was probably set somewhere around 60-80hz, which is a full octave below the Le corner frequency. So the active lowpass crossover was the limiting factor in the impulse response of the subwoofer, not the Le. If you wanted to use the driver up to 200hz or better then yes, the Le have been the limiting factor. But when lowpassed and acting as a true subwoofer, the lowpass crossover is what was limiting the impulse portion of the transient response. I'm not telling you that you should have liked the 13AV.2 more than you did. I'm just telling you it was not because of the Le. Realize I'm explaining all of this to you so that you spend your time choosing a subwoofer based on the more important factors rather than eliminating potential drivers for the the wrong reasons, or ending up with a driver that doesn't fit your goals because you looked at the wrong pieces of data when shopping. No matter where I had the crossover or position of box, the sub tapered around 63hz. Used a tone generator to confirm the frequency. My buddy still has a MASS and testing it in the vehicle with the same amp and crossover setting, the MASS easily went beyond 80hz. That is the only reason I was asking about Le. Not saying your wrong though.

    Subwoofer Dilemma

After I get moved into my new house, and have some cash again. I'd like to get a sub back in my truck. I've been waiting for the Audiomobile's to pop up, but I'm not sure when they will be available and may actually cost more than I want to spend, since the AE X's will probably never be around again, I'm trying not to spend more than 300 on a 12/15, but I will if the right sub comes along. I'm hoping you guys can help point me in the direction of a sub. I have some specs in mind that seem to be what I'm looking for or close too. But, I don't have enough information on the subs I've been looking at. What I'm looking for is a sub that is efficient, accurate, has great sq, and has the ability to get loud and low when needed. It doesn't matter to me if the enclosure is sealed or ported. I have the room. I don't have an amp yet, so I can get the power geared towards what is needed. The specs that seem to fit what I'm looking for (but could be wrong) is a qts of around .5, xmax => 25mm, Le =< 1mh, high sensitivity if possible, and a recommended enclosure that is on the smaller side, so nothing over 3 cubes. My main goal is to have an accurate sub that is transparent as possible with my front stage. There are so many subs out there, I just need help narrowing down to a good selection, and maybe of some that I have not heard of yet. Thanks for any help. Hopefully I didn't miss any pertinent info.

    Subwoofer Dilemma

That's why I asked you guys As for Le, I heard that it is important as it plays an important factor in transient response. I saw that the Le of the MASS 2012 i used to own was around .5 and the ED Av.2 was upwards of 4 I believe, so the MASS seemed to be able to go higher in the frequency response vs. dropping off immediately after 63hz (ED AV.2). I personally thought the MASS was extremely accurate, and no matter the enclosure for the AV.2, sealed or ported. I couldn't get it to sound right. I did like the low end though, that is were it really shined. I guess overall, if you guys could point me in the right direction or have a subwoofer that seems to meet my needs, I can always just purchase it and return it if I don't like it. I just don't have the time or patience to buy a bunch and find the right one. Something that doesn't require a lot of power for it's full potential, doesn't require a huge box if possible, and has great SQ. Thanks again for the help.

    IB sub in an enclosure?

A buddy of mine is selling his IB312 because he is getting rid of his car. He is selling it cheap. Since I own a SUV, would it be possible to put this sub in a ported or sealed enclosure?

    xmax and ported?

I've been trying to decide on subs for a while now, and ported seems to be the route I want to go. Currently I only have 1000rms to work with (hopefully more later), but overall with this much power, should I be concerned at all about xmax? Obviously I will have a SSF, and just not sure how crutial it is for a high xmax driver. I haven't had subs in a long time, since I've had kids, and the drive to work in the morning with some people on the road driving me nuts, I need to have something to relax me I've been looking at 15's because of the cone area, and I have an SUV, so size isn't that big of a deal, even though I'd like to keep the box within reason, so no more than 2.5cubes. I've been starting to listen to a lot more dubstep, and once I have a sub, I'll probably bust out the old BASS 305 and such. I'm not super concerned about sq, but I would like the system to keep up with some metal, and not sound muddy. I have the DLS up6i's up front and they work well for me. So, I guess maybe some recommendations would be nice too. I've been looking at the fi Q, SSA Icon, AE AV X (if they become available again) but can't decide. Plus with the options, i'm not sure which will work best for me. I'm sure I'm missing some info, but some suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

    xmax and ported?

I'd rather have it flat across a larger range. I'm not apposed to a 12, but if I were to do a 15, what enclosure size would be more in the range?

    Audiomobile MASS HD?

Has anyone come across anymore info on these subs, other than that the company is bringing 6 new lines? I'm really interested to see the changes made.

    Audiomobile MASS HD?

yep, saw that article. I've tried to Google any combination of phrases to find something different, and only a couple pics from CES that didn't help much. Maybe there was just no additional information on these at CES. You'd think they would have had some specs...
  20. Finally got an email back from Fi, and they recommended an American Bass VFL amp. First time hearing about these. I've done some searching and they sound great. The problem I have is where to get these at a good price and from a respectable company/person. The prices on the net are all over the place. I was initially set on getting a Sundown amp, but now these. Any links would greatly help, I need a Christmas present for myself
  21. I'm getting a Fi Q 12 with cooling and extra spider. I wanted to do the inductance ring, but I guess you can't unless you select the high qts option. Not sure how that would work with a ported enclosure.

    DLS comp.

I'm currently using the DLS up6i's in my trailblazer. http://www.edesignaudio.com/product_info.php?cPath=1_108&products_id=517 I've had them for almost 2 years now. I really like how they sound, even without a sub right now. They didn't take much eq'ing to get them to sound the way I like either. I've heard a few Morel's, Rainbow's, and some older Diamond's, and the DLS sound fairly good in comparison. Maybe not quite as much impact, or extension, but you'll still have to deaden the doors. They sounded much better after.

    FI Q 12 recommendations

I think I finally decided on the Q. Now I just don't know which options are going to work best. I don't have an amp yet, but plan on getting something that is around 1200-1500. What I'm looking for in a sub, is one that will work best in a small sealed enclosure (around 1 cube), has great transient response, and can drop low. It is an old, old sub now, but my favorite by far has been the MASS 2012, and I just can't find a sub that is equal or better. The fs of the Q kind of makes me nervous, as the MASS was around 25 and the q is 34. My front stage consist of a DLS up6i set, being powered by an amp that is 150x2. The front stage sounds quite good for my taste. I've setup up the time alignment and eq the best I can. The wattage for the sub is a bit overkill for a SQ setup, but when I feel like cranking it up, I want the headroom there. I listen to a wide variety of music, so I just want all the bases covered, as much as I can, without breaking the bank. Some of the options are obvious, like the high q, and inductance ring, but I don't know if I need the extra spider or cooling option. Thanks for any help. Also, if there is another sub that fits my needs better, I'm open for suggestions. Just for an example, not sure how it will sound from youtube, but at about 1:40 I believe it gets fairly low, sub 30hz, and I want this to be just as prominent as say 40hz...

    Chevrolet 1997 1500 Subwoofer Selection

I'm doing an install in a '93 1500 single cab. What I decided to do, is use 2 8's that are down-firing and port on the side. The 8's will be to the edge of the box, but this way your not limited to a shallow mount sub.
