  1. I decided I'm either going to try something else, but haven't decided yet one what. Try the Evil series when it comes out or something else. But I'm thinking 200 for the sub is a good price plus shipping. I'm thinking the sub is still pretty stiff since I never really put a ton of power to it.

  2. In the video it is clearly bottoming out, but it also sounds as if the gains are set too high.

Does it bottom out in the box? (is it a ported box or not?)

It is a sealed enclosure. I'll recheck the gains as well. I usually play some music that has been recorded at 0db with the gains all the way down. The turn the volume up about 3/4, then slowly turn the gain up until I hear distortion, and then back it off and leave it there. Everything "sounds" really clean.

  3. Not hard to bottem out a sub out of an enclosure. . Whats the specs of the enclosure used and where is your subsonic filter set?

After displacement it is 1.3 cubes. I noticed it more when the sub was doing a quick snap, but videos I have seen it looked like they moved more than my sub and didn't make any sound like mine made.

    SS is set to 25hz

  4. I'm assuming this is the sound of the XCON bottoming out? I had little power on the sub before and just got a new Crescendo amp (1500.1) and decided to see what the excursion looked liked and noticed it started making a noise that sounded like it was hitting the backplate. Visually I guess I was thinking the XCON was going to move a little more before bottoming out. The thing still moves quite a bit. Just thought I would see what you all thought. I only did this for the second time in the video, and won't be doing it again.

  5. Could use a bracket that is bolted inside the enclosure that then bolts to chassis, trunk somewhere.

That is definitely along the lines of what I'm thinking. I don't know if a thief would have this, but I even thought of having the bracket or strip of metal that had a hole in it, secured to the chassis with a lock that needs a key. I have those anchors under my seats for car seats that I could always use. I may have just figured out what I'm going to do.

Thanks again for all the ideas!

  6. or u can do like I do. leave you giant jet black german shepard out all night.. he lays right next to my car and never ever leaves the yard. I use those squarehead screws too. lowes and manards and ace hardware have them also

LOL! I wish I had that option, it would give me a little piece of mind.  It's been a long time since I have had a system, since the last one got stolen. So, I'd like to make sure I make it very difficult for the thieves. I live in a much safer feeling area, but you just never know.

Thanks for all the ideas. I'm still trying to think of something creative, that would allow me to remove the box without to much trouble. But, if bolting the damn thing down is the only way, I'll just have to live with it.

  7. I have a trailblazer and I'm trying to come up with a way to secure my box for anti-theft purposes. I'm looking for some ideas on what I should do. Right now I'm thinking of laying some 1/2" particle board that I somehow secure and then put some metal slats of some type on the bottom of the box that secure to the particle board. I'm looking for an easier way to be able to remove it and replace it if I need to haul something.

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

    Thank you!

  8. Yes, very heavy low end, and some hard bass lines, rap mostly. Its fairly odd, because I can play certain songs that the excursion is far heavier on, with no issues. Then I play a song that hits, but excursion is much less visible, and I get the pop. I will look into the rear fill speakers out of curiosity tomorrow as they are old and tired, due for an upgrade soon. I know of one minor leak in the seal along bottom of the double baffle, I will seal that also tomorrow.

So 25 isnt too low for a 32htz tuned port? I want to be able to put to the sub what I know it can handle without worry. Amps birthsheet says 1794, but not sure how accurate, Its only at a 1/3rd gain to. Maybe its time for the khaotic box I've been putting off. Local stereo king wants $450.00 plus material cost, to build me a box! So I built this box for now, to the optimal ported specs, and took my dimensions from the pdf on the ssa stores xcon specs page. I know that it is all within 1/16-1/8 on all cuts, as I burnt some mdf getting it as perfect as possible.

while the sound is happening, can you try lowering the crossover and see if that helps. I'm curious on the results.

  9. So I messed around a lot this weekend fine tuning the best I can. I think I'm going to try a slightly smaller box. I don't have the best EQ to level out the freq, so a smaller box it is. This is just to flatten the low end just a tad. Some metal that I listen to, the bass is just a little off. I already know my midbass's could be better, and that would help with the kick drums, but once the freq goes lower it really comes alive. I noticed on White Zombie, there are some electronic drums that come in once in a while and they just play with more authority than the actual kick drum.

I will just use up some of the space in the box right now to lower the volume, so in the future when I can beef up my front stage, I can add the volume back. However I can tell, that the sub just inherently has a strong low end, I may find that I will be forced to upgrade the fronts.

Overall, I'm pretty excited that I own a XCON.

  10. I have more work to do, but so far I have to say the XCON is a low end beast! I built a sealed enclosure that is 1.25 cubes and have a temp amp right now which is a RF 500.1.

I have some fine tuning to do, but right off the bat, I know I will be happy with this sub. Played a couple tracks from Bass 305, some Decaf, and some Lamb of God. The presence of the sub is amazing! Completely transparent and I cannot tell where the sound is coming from most of the time, which is due to the setting I have the crossover at currently. I have the crossover set a little high right now, right around 80hz. I'll start to dial it back after I mess with my comps a bit. I haven't had a sub in a long time, so my comps have been running without the crossover active. So it will take a little time to get the system to blend.

I think even with 500 watts most people would be perfectly happy with the output. I'm not quite sure if it is the amp or the sub, or maybe even the crossover, but on rock and turning the volume up pretty loud the sub does make a sound that is a little hard to describe. The closest thing I can think of is "Maybe" it's the center of the dust cap flexing and making a little noise. Kind of like a snapple cap when you press it in, it makes a little pop noise. I noticed the sound free air as well, and could just very well be that the sub doesn't like higher freq. Not sure yet, but I will update if I can get the sound to either go away, or it just ends up getting masked at high volume.

Overall, I'm happy with my purchase.

  11. Might of been made before they started that process or after they stopped sandwiching them. More info besides why is my xcon leads not sandwhiched, like what year you bought it or something along those lines to give you a better answer as to why there not sandwiched.

It just arrived today, so I was just verifying.

  12. Hey Robert.  It's not quite at the top of the queue, but getting there.  The build house is a little behind schedule at the moment, but working hard to catch up.  We will update your order status the moment we have one.

Thank you for being so responsive! I appreciate it!

  13. OK, I know I'm impatient, and I'm not saying SSA is taking too long, I'd rather wait for something that is going to be this awesome versus them rushing and giving me something that might fall apart.

But, I was just curious the average time people waited to get their sub. 21+ days could mean 2 months for all I know. I'm trying to keep myself busy right now getting wires pulled and the box built, and hopefully time will pass faster. I'm just hoping the 14 days i've waited so far means I'm half way done:)

  14. if rock or metal sounds really muddy its probably a midbass issue not a sub bass issue.

    EQ1.jpg

At least I'm thinking muddy is the correct word. You may very well be correct with the midbass. With some ported enclosures the sound is either snappy on the kicks or they blend together with no distinction. So when the kicks blend together, this is what I think of as muddy.

  15. Depends on the goals. Why not put in the recommended and compare them. It will tell you more than we can and give you the opportunity to ask better questions smile.png

I plotted what I thought would look good and for the xcon in a ported box. I''m looking at a fairly small box with a low tune, and the port length is ridiculously long. With the recommended that SSA suggests, it looks like I have a pretty good peak at 32hz. Match that up with the transfer function and I've got some great low's over powering everything else. At least that is what it appears to me.

If i go the ported route, I'm looking to make sure I can play everything and not having metal sound muddy. More than likely sealed will be the way to go, and the easiest, but once I went ported it is hard to go back, especially with the little amount of power you need to get loud.

  16. I'm guessing it is vehicle dependent, but when you all are trying to plan out your enclosures. How do you all map out your graph on winisd if you even look at that. Say I was trying to build a box for my xcon that is not here yet :) and I wanted to build a box that was great for metal, but I still wanted a bump in the low end.

What would your graphs look like, sealed or ported?

  17. Not sure if this is the right section but... I couldn't find any info searching on the topic. When doing a SQ system, is something like this graph followed? Or would it make sense to setup your system to follow the graph, and adjust your EQ accordingly to how the sensitivity of the ear is for a more balanced sound? My only thought I guess is that music isn't all recorded the same, so I guess maybe this wouldn't be useful.

    Just a thought I had
