    HDC3 & HDC4 Optimum Enclosure Size

Little late, but thanks for the info. About to start designing an enclosure for (2) HDC3 10's on strapped 2200's. If I tune at 34-35hz, do you think it's still possible to hit the upper 20's with any kind of authority? I listen to Dubstep, Decaf, and Hip Hop. I know 34hz will be great for Dubstep and the rest of my music (probably not Decaf), but I would still like to get low without sacrificing too much "loud", if possible... I know I will have to give and take in any situation. Just looking for optimal tuning... Any thoughts?
  2. Creative man... would love to listen to it! Entry level... I love it! I remember when I got my first set of HDS3 12's and a Q2200. My mind was blown to say the least! I have a similar style trunk. Wonder if I could pull off something like this with the HDC3 10's? Hmmmm

    New Member/The Woodlands, TX Introduction...

drailed77, what's up? Sorry for just getting back with you, been on vacation. Computer off, cell phone off, disconnected from the world. Was quite nice! Well, I'm having an issue with my enclosure. The lows from 27hz to @35-37hz still sound sick! Anything higher than that, and it's like i'm hearing a knocking sound in my enclosure. It sounds like it's really coming mainly from the right subwoofer area, closest to the port. Almost sounds like resonating of some kind. It's making me sick... This enclosure was a BIOTCH getting in my car and now I also have it sealed off. What I would like to do, since it looks like I'm going to have to hack into my enclosure (and it won't ever be the same after that) is design it with a center round opening of some sort. I think I can save some space and also get the end result I'm looking for. Here's the question, I've always designed slots as my ports, using the enclosure of one of the port walls. I've NEVER designed or built a round port. I'm thinking with (2) 12" Ethos, I will need at least an 8" aero to make this happen Is this correct? Also, is it good to flare both the inside AND outside, or just the inside, or just the outside? This is a daily driver application, sealed off, and probably no competitions. I want it to sound good on music, but also get loud when I want it too. So, a little mix of both... Where I get confused on designing this type of enclosure is, the part where it asks for Vb, do I put in net Vb or gross Vb, so it can determine the length of the tube to get to the desired tuning frequency? This is where i'm confused... I'm sure this is a completely noob question, but this is where i'm stuck... Any help will always be appreciated!
  4. Hello all, I'm new to this forum and want to give everyone a breif introduction to myself. I've been in car audio since the early 90's, but took a LONG break from it (almost 13 years), and just recently decided to open my wallet back up and get involved again. I like to hunt, fish, now have a serious passion for car audio, and take care of my wife. I'm an outside salesman for a tooling company that mfg's drills, taps, end mills, and other specialty tools. Enough about me... I drive a 2013 Toyota Camry and I am now working on my 4th system in it since the beginning of the year! Yeah, I know, lots of wasted dollars. I thought I was going to start off and be happy with one PIoneer 12 and a Hifonics amp. YEAH RIGHT! Anyway, on to my new system. Right now, I'm rolling around with a SoundQubed Q2200.1 on (2)HDS3 12's and for my mids/highs, have a Kenwood XR400-4 powering Infinity Kappa 6.5 components and a set of rear fill Kappa 6x9's. I'm running stock HU, as I like steering wheel function and navigation, so I bought an AC LC2i and things are working out ok so far. I was introduced to this sight by a guy over on SMD who informed me about the DSS Ethos drivers. I have now bought another Q2200.1 to strap to my existing one, and (2) 12" Ethos D2's, as this will be hopefully my holy grail build. I also bought another 4channel, SQ Q4-120, and bought some Bullet tweets from SQ'ed and (2) set's of 6x9's (have no idea where I'm going to install these, so hopefully I can learn how to fiberglass on this sight). As far as electrical goes, I have a MechMan 240amp alt, 4 AGM's, with 1/0 flexible welding cable running throughout. Waiting on some tinned copper bus bars to arrive this week to hopefully make my next install look as professional as possible. Today, I'm working on the frame to seal off my trunk so I can do this build correctly. I still have A TON to learn, so hopefully some of you smart guys out there won't mind throwing me a few pointers on how to seal my trunk off properly. I would imagine there are a few out there that can throw some pointers to me about enclosure design as well for the Ethos subs. This should be a fun build, a loud build, and one that will be a pleasure to listen to. Quetin introduced himself to me already and has been really cool from the get go. I look forward to meeting many more people that have the same attitude/personality that Quentin has. Much respect... Well, this post is long enough, so I'm going to close it out. I look forward to reading many posts and learning as much as possible. I'm sure I will add to threads when possible, but really I'm here to learn from some of the best in this field. Looking forward to learning and meeting some new people. Good luck everyone...

    Ascendant Audio Photos

Very puuurtie!!!!! Gonna go check them out in the store for pricing and specs. Those look like beasts! I heard in another thread some people were maybe worried about the surround on the 10"? Now, i assume they did extensive testing and it's not an issue, and i'm only asking because I'm curious...

2005 tahoe road to 150+ db

Very nice so far... Liking it. Vids when finished please?

    Zero Ethos motors left.

Are you the same guy I was chit chatting to on YouTube? Said he had 2 Sundown 10's? Well, if not, congrats on buying the Ethos. Gonna love them.

    Zero Ethos motors left.

I'll be waiting to hear back on the results. I've been thinking about upgrading electrical and buying a BC5500. I could then order a third Ethos and run them in a sealed configuration. Could be interesting...

    Zero Ethos motors left.

I'll tell you what, my face hurts from smiling so much this past week. These subs keep getting better and better the more I play them. I was screwing around the other day and played a track that was 28hz heavy and the Ehtos ate it up! You should have seen my car. Looked like it was literally breathing... You're going to love them! I wish I could figure out a way to put a third one in the trunk? Has anyone tried a sealed build on these yet? Just curious...
  10. Hey guys, filmed another demo with the GoPro. When I get home, I will get a friend to sit in the front seat like Big John does, and try to get their reaction without them knowing about it... Anyway, here is some "white clouds" for you... Quentin, you can do whatever you want with this vid, if you so choose... http://youtu.be/khY7PB9IlUI
  11. Hey guys, I'm currently starting my (2) 12" Ethos build and I was planning on firing both the subs and the port into the cabin of my 2013 Toyota Camry. So far, I'm framing out what I can in the smaller oval shape opening behind the seats that Toyota decided needed the be there. It's about 36" wide, 15" tall, and about 8" deep. I'm basically laying 2x4's down until I get to the point where I can have a flat surface in my trunk for my enclosure to bolt up to. This oval area will be dead space from the inside of my car, so I may do some fiberglassing and "pretty" that area up with LED's, or something of that nature. Now, as this is an oval, and 2x4's are straight, I will obviously have some gaps that aren't/won't be sealed off completely. This will in turn lead to cancellation from the sound going back into the trunk, and that's not what anyone wants. Can I tape off the edges there and spray some of that expanding foam in these gaps? What is the best solution to this problem? If there are any other hints/tips on sealing a trunk properly, I would GREATLY appreciate any comments, as this is the first time i've ever done this. I'm here to learn from some of the best in the business, so as always, anything thrown my way is appreciated. I probably need to post some pics to better explain this, but maybe there are rules to sealing off a trunk that I don't know. If there are some do's and dont's about sealing, it would be great info to know. All I plan on doing is framing out that hole, then basically put heavy duty L brackets on my enclosure and butt it up against the frame to secure it. I would then glue/caulk/or silicone the edges to make sure they were air tight. It's all the area around my enclosure that I'm trying to wrap my head around. How will I keep sound from going back into my trunk? Sitting here scratching my head now...
  12. You can sell the d2's to me Okie doike... Maybe we can both come good on this... Whats your zipcode? Not ready to sell them quite yet. PM your info and maybe we can set something up for the near future...
  13. Quentin, I plan on making another video with my GoPro tomorrow to get the name of your company correct. I feel like a freaking idiot! Sorry about that. I'm planning on playing "White Clouds," and probably "King of Bass" again. The quality of the video should be much better than the previous ones. I will post it up here and you can do what you wish with it... if you want me to post it to FB, then I will. I also ordered the cosmetic portion of my build and everything should be arriving by this weekend. I plan on doing something pretty cool to show DSS off. Keeping it a secret for now, just hope it turns out... Thanks again for an amazing product. Thinking about buying a set of D1's while on Pre-Order. It will be cheaper than buying a new amp. I will be able to run at 1ohm and squeeze that extra bit of power out of my 2200's that I think the Ethos are asking for... I'm sure I can figure something out on what to do with the 2 D2's I will have laying around
  14. Well, made it to Tulsa and played the Ethos for a good 5-6 hrs today. Not full tilt the whole time, but I did let them scream several times. Lets just say I can turn heads now. I'm loving it...
  15. Off to Tulsa now... Yay. Another long arse drive. Check back in tonight guys. At least I have the new build to bump on the way up there!
  16. By the way, I need to make a video of my trunk rattle. Virtually eliminated now. My #1 goal of this build was achieved! Rattles drive me crazy, well rattles that I can fix that is... Great job on the Ethos Quentin. I know i've said that a thousand times now, but you definitely have another VERY satisfied customer. Thinking about putting a Taramps HD5000 on them. With my regulated alt, I think that amp may be perfect for my application, plus it will give the subs the power they're asking me for... Can't wait to see the Trident's
  17. Guys, I'm a traveling salesman and I check my computer when I can... Also, I'm new to this site and I didn't realize I had messages. I will try to keep up better... Checking messages now. But fyi... sometimes I may be absent for 2-3 days at a time, so be patient with me. I promise i will get back with you.
  18. In the video you said digital sound system, its Direct sound solutions lol Did I? Sorry about that... I must have had digital on my mind when I was looking at the Kicker Front Row. Sorry about that Quentin. I will make sure to edit the video to reflect the correct name.
  19. No, the Trident is supposed to be 3.5K right? Not 5...
  20. Gotcha.... Didn't realize it was so easy to have an amp made. Curious to the see the Trident. The the 5KRMS sub right?
  21. They will be nearly the same. The 12's are mass loaded to get nearly the same response as the 15's. If mass wasn't added to the cone while keeping the same motor strength and suspension set up they would have fallen off about 1/2 octave higher. On paper anyhow. Whatever engineering that went into this sub is definitely getting the job done. I'm about to go take another ride just to listen to them again. Loving the new build! Can't wait to get the cosmetic portion of it completed now. It's going to drive me crazy this week. Thanks again and good luck with your business. I have a feeling you will get some orders from my neck of the woods, once a few people around here, hear what I have. Do you have plans to come out with any amps? I thought I read somewhere you were trying to put something together? Just curious...
  22. no you dont seem to understand. All things equal, a 15 will only be louder than a smaller sub across its entire response. Terms like cleaner or consistent dont apply in any way. To put it another way. Its completely possible to have an 8" sub and 15" sub with the same frequency response from 20hz-100hz however the larger sub would have the output advantage. Ok, you win. I have a trophy around here somewhere...
  23. Both videos are editing now, so the shakiness should be gone in a little while. YouTube is doing there thing to stabilize it. Sorry about that, I did zero editing as you can probably tell!
  24. It's the camera. It's tiny and I was moving a lot. I will fix it on YouTube... Give me a minute and I will get the shakiness out. Oh, and I guess i shouldn't have smoked that 8ball of meth today! lol. I will go fix it now...
  25. I'm definitely not a film director, but here is another video of the install. Now, time for the cosmetics and to be finished with this build! http://youtu.be/IYQDlyGgHxU
