  1. I have a set of Sony XS-GS1720S 6.5 x components that I put in my Focus over the summer running off the stock Base headunit. The drivers side woofer has blown. I am looking at the PRV Audio 6MB200-4 6.5 Inch 4 ohm Mid Bass as a replacement for the Sony midbass speakers but still use the Sony crossover and tweeter. I plan on adding a second set of components to the rear doors and getting a decent 4 channel amp to run it all a little later down the road. Would the prv's listed above be a decent replacement for these Sony's in all the doors. Or am I looking at the wrong speakers?
  2. First off. I am Unimpressed with FI's Silence. Unfortunately Scott and Nick have pretty much decided they are going to Ignore my Emails concerning taking them (Scott) up on the offer to replace the sub of find a magnet cover to hide the huge chunk missing out of the Ferrite. 2 weeks worth or emails have never been replied to so I have decided to cut my Losses and install the Subwoofer in the Oak Ply box I built. I waited and waited but with the weather turning cooler I wanted to get it in and running. On a Side note, a few Woofer builders have offered to repair the woofer at a reduced cost to help me out. So that was nice of them. I may take one of them up on the offer since I really wanted to run it inverted at can't get passed the Snaggeled toothed look of it with it ass end out. I was getting discouraged with the whole deal so I mounted the sub in the box and said the hell with it. Anyhow, after another restain to get the color I wanted I have it installed and running off my Trusty Brutus Brx1200.1d. HOLY SHIT.... It Slams. I know...It doesn't compare to what some guys are running but this is my first time with some decent equipment or at least a start. I have everything set pretty Conservative on the amp and it sounds beautiful and its WAY more powerful than I really need. Even at the low settings it sounds great and has a real nice kick to it. But it literally turns the Little Focus to Jello if I spin it up a bit. I broke it in for a few days at half volume but cranked her up a bit here and there because I couldn't help it. I'm pretty Happy with the performance of the sub and from what hear on this site it will only get better as it breaks in. I haven't had the cojones to roll the bass knob passed halfway yet. (Chickenshit) My Only complaint I have with it was the lack of QC with FI sending something out damaged like that then ignoring me after they said they would make it right. It took me a pretty long time to save up for a Higher end woofer I do not have a expendable income and have a pretty strict budget with a growing Family and all. Anywhow.. I tried taking a video with my Phone but it was worthless as it sounded really bad with the Subwoofer clipping out the little mic in the phone. I will get some pics and maybe try out my Motorcycle Vlogging helmet cam and mic and see if that can give a better idea of the sound quality. Camera picked up the car liquefying and the windows warping pretty good though. EESH.... I was worried about the Port noise because some said it was a little on the small side. (6" ID psp port 14" long in a 35wx13tx22d box. but there isn't any port noise that I can hear in the car. I need to invest in some Dynomat or something and plaster the hatch and the roof. Right now its Wavy Gravy on Low low songs. Like REAL BAD. The box came out great and that was mostly do of course thanks to everyone's help that gave me pointers on it. Need to just tidy up the rear wiring a bit and get the box tied down. Have the Amp running off of a 2 Gauge copper welding wire and ground. Stock 160amp alt seems to be running it ok but I do not have a volt meter on it just yet. It doesn't seem to have a want for power. As for the blown Sony Component set that I posted in another thread I put in a old RF 6.5 from a old 90's build of mine in it's place for now and it sounds of course great!. (Sony is replacing the entire set and sending me a UPS pick up ticket on Monday no questions asked and is expediting a replacement set to me through a distributor) < I thought that was very professional! Probably run the Sony set until I can find a nice component set in the $150 range to replace them with. I'll post some pics after I clean it all up maybe saturday. And again thanks for everyone help and opinions throughout all of this. So far it has turned out great. \ Happy Almost Friday.

Decent replacement for Sony Midbass woofer?

I thought this prv stuff was supposed to be pretty good?

Decent replacement for Sony Midbass woofer?

Sounds like the vc let loose. No factory amp. Stock Ford 6.5 speakers had a rating of 35 watts. The factory radio isn't over powering the Sony s according to their Rms rating. I was just thinking of piecing a set of components up myself and these prvs looked the part. I want the rear doors running as well.

Decent replacement for Sony Midbass woofer?

I'm not getting rid of the stock radio. It isn't Bose and does not have a factory amp. It's the stock Base model radio in the 14 Ford focus. I do not know What caused the Sony midbass speakers to blow. Junk Chinese stuff I reckon. I have a fi bl 15 in the back.

A pic of my FI BL 15 in it's new home.

I'll probably just leave it alone and run it as is. I really didn't hear to much port noise running it with the little fosgate amp running it. A 15 pr would fit next to the FI but I don't want to do that.
  8. Here's my box I made for my new FI BL 15. This will be going into my 2014 Focus ST and will be driven by a Brutus 1200.1d at 1 ohm. Box is 3/4" Oak Plywood and is on the high side of 4.2 cubic feet. It is stained with Minwax Cherry Blossom stain with like 8 coats of poly. Empty Soda can is for size comparison. Has 14" long 6" psp aeroport tuned at 32hz. Turned out a little more Purpley/Burpley than I initially wanted but I said to heck with it and left it Burple. Looks a little more reddish Burple in the sun than in this pic. The shade.........It's growing on me. I did a little shake down run with a old RF Monoblock amp I had running a 18" obsidian. It sounds (at least to me) Fantastic. Box has SIX 1 1/4 oak dowels one under each sub screw hole and two 1 3/4" oak dowels along side the port off to the side. It's pretty stout. Box is 34"w x 14"H x 22" deep. Ordered some Dayton Binding post's that haven't showed up yet, hopefully this week.. I'll run this sub traditionally until Scott from FI can find me a Magnet cover to hide the chip on the Magnet. Not everyone's cup o tea but I'm old..... and I like tea.

A pic of my FI BL 15 in it's new home.

This is the biggest box I can fit into the cargo area of my Ford Focus. There just isn't anymore room. I'll have to make what I have work I have a 8" and a 10" passive radiators I bought years ago . Wonder if that would help with port noise? I could stuff one of them into the back side up against the seats?

Thanks for the compliments! I'll have to look into making a bigger port for it later on. 10"? My 20 month old son thinks it's HIS new "Burple BOOOFER "

    BL 15 Magnet cover?

If he can find a Boot that fits it and covers it up real nice like I would be alright with that compromise and I told Scott that. It was for sure a big expenditure for me and I do appreciate his concern and that he just didn't blow me off.

    BL 15 Magnet cover?

I ordered a mild Built FI audio BL 15 last month. It showed up last night. Unfortunately it has a big chip out of the top magnet. I want to run this inverted so now this is throwing that idea all off. The Sub was packaged very well from them and the box sustained no damage anywhere during shipping. Must have slipped past FI Audio on the way out the door. I know it probably isn't going to hurt anything but for looks sake it's really bugging me. Its there a Rubber boot or something that I could cover the two magnets with so it doesn't stand out so much? I see some other sub brands have these boot's or covers. Here's a pic. It's kind of crappy but the Magnet was jacking with the phone so I had to stand back and zoom in. The chunk missing is wider than the tip of my thumb. Smaller chips broke off along the side. What say you?

    BL 15 Magnet cover?

I am alright with sticking with one. If something were to happen to it later down the road say a Magnet cracking I would expect them to repair the woofer. I have friends and family coming in this weekend and have been wanting to show the box off I spent ages making with the sub in it ....so no matter what it's going into the box and will be running this weekend,

    BL 15 Magnet cover?

Just so there's continuity in the thread. Scott from FI Audio has offered to Located a Magnet Boot or replace the Woofer and showed complete understanding of my concern since I was running the sub Inverted . I have accepted his offer to try and locate a Boot. My local PA Speaker repair facility has had difficulty as of today to find something that would fit around in their words the "Huge @SS Magnet structure" The Option is still open to wrap it in Black upholstery vinyl or leather like some older PA speaker Magnet structures used to have. The woofer is still at the repair facility and Scott is actively looking for a rubber boot on his end as well. Pretty happy for the time being. I'll post up what the outcome is.

    BL 15 Magnet cover?

I dropped it off at a local Speaker repair place. They said they could find a thick rubber boot to fit it or stitch one out of thick Vinyl. Showed some examples. Happy now! Good times.. Just about broke my back dragging the thing out of the car though. Damn thing is wicked heavy.. I'm too old for this shit.
  18. Edit: I am all over with this post so bear with me.. "That amp you have is junk. You need something better" So this is always the reply I seem to get when someone ask's what I have in the car. I'm 40 years old and have been out of the scene for a while. I put a simple setup on my 2014 Focus ST which consisted of stock headunit and Sony gs 6 1/2 components front and rear, Stock 160 amp alt and 0 ga welding wire to the back. Stock battery and no big 3. After that I used a well worn 12" kicker cvr d2 and a New Hifonics Brutus brx1200.1d I have ran that since Nov of last year and it's been great for my daily routine. I have decided to go to a 15" and ordered a FI BL 15 with cooling and Flatwind coil now all the sudden my amp is apparently garbage and shouldn't be hooked up to the BL. I have heard this from a few different folks. I wish I knew more on why it is garbage now that I have a FI going into the car? It has ran fine for months. I don't have a ton of cash to spend on another amp since purchasing the BL. About the most I could come up with quickly is about $300. My father has been wanting to purchase a old Beretta 9mm I have so that would net me the $300. I need some advice not criticism. Should I just run with what I have and ignore everything else or should I look into a new amp within my stated price range?

    BL 15 Magnet cover?

Every FI I have ever seen looks like a work of art. I haven't seen any chips or Knicks in the mags until mine. The well built and attention to quality look of them led me to fork out what it took to get one. If I wasn't running it inverted it wouldn't be a issue. But I am running it Inverted.....and it has a big chunk out of the ferrite.

    BL 15 Magnet cover?

Guess we shall see. At this price point I would expect overall appearance to be 100% Also I sure wouldn't consider a 1/2" chunk missing out of the side of the ferrite a small chip.

    How does that make sense?.

    BL 15 Magnet cover?

If it was a $100 sub I'd say you probably would be right. But it isn't. Then again. Years ago I had a $100 set of Fosgate Fanaticx that had a offset dust cap from the factory and it was replaced.....Expeditiously I might add. It would have more than likely been fine and sounded fine but the concept of a quality product at the time was paramount to them.

    BL 15 Magnet cover?

Yes the woofer was packaged very well. Fiberboard on top and bottom on the sub and 2x2's screwed together connecting them. The cardboard box is heavy wall as well and has no visible damage. Their packaging is pretty bulletproof. I have looked for the chipped off piece inside the box and the heavy plastic bag it was wrapped in. I turned the empty box over on a sheet of birch and gave her a good few whacks. The chipped off piece isn't in there and if it was the broken pieces would be stuck to the magnet. The Magnet is clean. Nothing is stuck to it.

    BL 15 Magnet cover?

I have seen worse as well but they weren't on $400 some odd dollar subs and those weren't being ran ass end up. Only real way to hide it is to cover it up. I have some U-line thick black rubber self fusing tape that could do it but the chip is mostly on the Top. I have put a email In to FI audio to see what they want to do. Other than all that....It's a Damn nice sub.
