    Can I Make This Work?

Starting to think these guys are just messing with everyone. Yes you can buy baffles all day long, just go to sonic electronics they will send you all you want in two days plus the spacers, gaskets, or what ever M5 wants to call them. I litterely just did the same thing last night using a baffle, second skin, foam gaskets and a spacer from sonic, sounds superb no vibration no nothing just crystal clear mid range.

You make no sense who said anything about a single speaker I said a component set was a mid woofer, mid range, tweeter with crossovers like every audio company in the world sells including Ssa. And I have never liked active crossovers I think the high end audio manufacturers like JL do a better job of adjusting the sound then I can. I know I put my components in the same position they said would be optimal for and it sounds great to me. Now my car is quiet and maybe in a different setup or car it might not work but in mine now it is. Sorry but I just ain't a active guy.

    Can I Make This Work?

Yes you can make it work. .10 isn't hard to overcome I just did it recently myself. My JL C2 61/2's where just a little to big for the depth so I used a gasket to bring it out a little and it worked fine. As long as your just the least bit handy you can make that work.
  4. Everybody on here swears by the active set but I'm just gonna run components in front and coaxial's in the back it's easier for me but that just me. It's what I have always done and it sounds fine to me. I guess it just depends on what kind of system your going for.

Of course install is a big part no doubt but I'm just replacing my stock locations with a system I already have. The only thing I don't have is the dash speakers but I may just unhook them and run my JL's cause I loved the sound it had in my last car. This will be 61/2's in doors with foam gaskets and second skin mat with the tweeter mounted 3/4 ways up the door and the 6x9's in the back just because I like the rear fill. And of course 2 13w7's in a custom ported box ran off HD1200/1's. Later on I want to get a better set of components cause I just bought the C2's because they where cheap and I had already spent a lot on my subs and amps. I'm not going for just sq I want it loud to probably more then I want sq but it would be nice to have both of course. And this isn't a system for competition or anything it's just for my listening pleasure. Just trying to do the best with what I already have. And I'm surprised the dash speakers sound as good as they do I figured after installing my alpine and amp they would be screening and distorted but there not. Or if they are my deaf ass can't hear it.

So your saying if I have a set of focal Utopias components and a digital processor I still can't change the sound for the environment. You lost me there.

Ow and what you described with just a mid range mid bass and tweeter is what I call a component set. JL C5 components are 6" mid bass 4" midrange and a tweeter. So how is your different. Or are you calling a component set just a midrange, tweeter, with crossovers? I'm so confused.

This was bass race not sq. 30 seconds on music. And this was meca in Kentucky and Tennessee. My best score in 95-96 was 148 on 100 watts. Good old Phoenix gold m100 and I also had a m50 on my highs mids. That was with 3 JL12w6's in a tiny Toyota hatchback. Those where the days.

I was actually talking about j carter not you M5 you have been more then helpful and I appreciate the words of wisdom. Apparently car audio has changed greatly since I competed in the 90's and I have some catching up to do. But even back then I never liked when some one had a wall of 15's with just 2 61/2's components in the front doors. I actually lost to a guy in a hatchback that had that very setup and it was a stereo you couldn't even here the music it was just a giant wind tunnel which is ok if you don't like nothing but bass. Sorry for the confusion I didn't realize the alpine power pack could drive 2 ohm loads.

So basically if your not a audio world champ or a expert your gonna be talked down to and attacked here right. I can't help but feel like your guys egos are a little swelled. Yea we may not know everything about audio but not everybody is that into it or sells equipment. I myself built bridges all over the east coast and if you asked me a question I wouldn't talk down at you because it is a complex process that if you don't work in it you ain't gonna know. Just seems like you guys are a bit aggressive for someone just asking questions but whatever carry on with the 8 people who are still here.

Yea I know that I just thought it was funny that they bash him when not long ago they where selling products with his name on them. So was it junk when they sold it or did it just become junk after they stopped selling it?

Ha I said I was gonna try just the components and see if I liked it. Would you go home and unhook half your system because I said to no you wouldn't you would probably do like me and take the advise with a grain of salt and try it both ways and see what sounded better. What sounds good to me may not sound good to you and vise versa. My hearing is actually damaged from years of equipment, systems, and gun fire so maybe I don't here what you guys here with just one set of 61/2's. And you got to remember this isn't a dodge radio or system cause I have replaced it all but the dash speakers. I mean honestly how bad can alpine and JL sound? Wait don't answer that lol.

    Voltmeter wiring

Yes that is where you put it that way you can see exactly what voltage your amp is getting.
  15. Billy Jack

    Voltmeter wiring

You got it right. Some people use several meters to see if there loosing voltage from the alt to the amp but if I only had one I would put it on my amp cause that way you can see what voltage your amp is seeing.

Well how are they running from the factory cause as of right now they sound great. Can't tell which one is playing unless you stick your ear to it. I honestly don't get how these 6 speaker factory stereo's work myself seems like the 3.5's would be way louder off the same power as there smaller and handle less wattage but some how it's working just fine. I had my alpine h/u and power pack installed so I have no idea how they wired it except for the steering wheel control I helped the kid figure that one out myself i.e. read the instructions. Lol

Yea I love the way it sounds all I wanted to know is how these dodge dash speakers work like are they tweeters wired into a door mid or just separate coaxial's. I actually found the alpine amps owners manual online and it does go down to 2ohm so I'm good either way.

I'm using the same system extreme audio put in my last car I don't understand what the problem is. Right now it sounds like AC/DC is riding in the car with me playing how much better does it need to be. I have had many systems with just front stage and yes they did sound good but I actually prefer the sound of being surrounded by music. If the system didn't have as much output I would probably run a active system but as it stands I'm gonna try both ways and see which I prefer in this car.

I would use what they recommend you want notice any difference in your system from one to the other.

And by tuning you mean? Moving location of speakers, tweets, or setting crossovers? Right now I have my LPF set to 80hz and the HPF set to 80hz. Sound pretty good right now.
