To kick, or not to kick

I'll try a little on my lunch break , and after work if I can . So these amps have the c.l.e.a.n. setup on them . When Initially set them up I used -5 db for the mids /highs , and -10 for the subs . The amps have an input clip light , and it never lit on the test tones , all the way to the decks limit of 63. So now I have a lc1 that controls both sub amps . At 51 on music (some music) it lights red for input clip. The output clip lights are normal during these episodes, but the bass does distort , it kinda gets a nasally tone untill I turn it down . It doesn't do this for all songs .

I have the eq set to flat . I am only using t/a ,and x over at the head unit at the moment . Can I flip the switch on the amp to high pass , and set the x over to like 1200hz since I belive that's the lowest I can go in the head unit ? Will that still allow ne to change slopes ect above 1200hz at the head unit . I am sure that on certain songs I can hear the bass line trying to come through the tweets .

Thanks man . I really do apreciate the help . I've looked through all the menus and I can't find the one that shows what auto eq set it to . I can find eq 1&2 where I can adjust them . I can find the presets, and I found where to turn auto eq off . Which I did , and it sounded way off . Also I really think low freq are making it to my tweeters , but only on certain songs .

Ok after some button I figured it out and it helped . Why did that help?

I have a nice pair of harmon kardon over ear, and a pair of Jay bird blue budx. Right now most of my concern seems to be with my mids on the low end . I'm starting to wonder if I bought very nice fakes. I bought them off a guy on Instagram . Im going to email Hertz with the serial number, and see what's up. The bass is punchy , but kinda overly punchy. It almost seems like there is more bass trapped inside the door shell than what's coming out of the driver . Unfortunately I have to work all weekend so I won't get to really do much listening except to , and from work . I'll try to find the auto eq settings , and report back.

Thanks ! Those bars were thrown on because when the back seat is in , the seat has no real support on the bottom . Im waiting on a custom ported box from High Output Enclosures , so I won't worry about these sealed boxed for now .

It is the see tings that auto setup choose , except for the sub low pass and mid hi pass . Those were set to all pass probably because I didn't have my subs hooked up when I ran it . My system doesn't sound bad as is , it just seems like I could be better . I have no real refrence point to draw from . I live in yakima , Wa . Here a "good" system is a big amp , a couple type r's , and stock mids/highs . Shit ... my system might sound amazing lol , and I don't even realize it . As for the eq, I'm not sure how to look at the settings. Would that be the custom 1 or 2? Also is it possible for the xover to be letting lower freq to my tweeters despite my settings ? It seems like it is on certain songs ??

I did not know that . Thank you . Those boxes are very nice. They fit like the were glassed in there .

I figured since they are actually for home audio , they would do best on axis . Xover are as follows Sub low pass 63hz 18db slope Mid high pass 63hz 12 db slope Mid low pass 2k 6 db slope High hi pass 2k 12 db slope phase reversed at the moment

I just put them at a angle I thought would be as close to on axis as I could . These are the Dayton rs28 4ohm tweeters . I never considered that there was a better direction to aim them . The mids are mounted in the doors with a 1/4 thick foam "boom mat" cup that I cut all but the top out of to protect them from water . Behind them is a " speaker tweaker" from second skin .

I just need to spend some time actually playing with the settings . I just haven't had much lately.

Function first . I want to hear them before I commit to glassing the pillars . So far they are very good , and can be rebuilt ! They will sound better I'm sure when I figure out how to properly use t/a. It's setup with the auto feature now .

Site still won't let me upload pictures directly , so here's a link to a few . It's a straight forward utilitarian system . I may polish it up after I settle on gear , and tuning . https://goo.gl/photos/wYWKndgUSwLHuD8F9

Lol . I'd love to have already put 8's in the doors , but didn't because I thought there might problems blending without a dedicated mid . Not that I haven't heard many very nice 2 way 8 home speakers .

Any recommendations for an 8 in a 2 way plus sub setup ?

I guess I'll put the esk's in my sauna then . Adding a second set of ml1600 will be spendy . Thank you gentlemen. Are there any existing threads , or resources to help me wit eq settings , and t/a ? The search feature almost always comes up with no results for me .

As soon as I can post pix I will . I did seal off all openings not needed to replace the outer panel . I used sheet metal , then treared the doors with the aforementioned deadner. I will try to do some listening , and figure what I do , and don't like . Since my issues are with my front stage , should I turn the subs off ? Side note : I figured out how to switch phase in the deck this morning , and when I reversed the phase of the tweeters the sounded a little richer, brighter , with more sizzle; for lack of a bether word . So then I reversed phase on the mids , and it sounds a bit better as well . So I see there are significant gains to be made by understanding how to use what I have .

I'm already running millie ml1600 in a heavily deaden door . I have 3 layers of damplifier, I have overkill pro inside ,and out; with luxury liner pro over that . I'm running class a/b power , with power to spare from a p1000x2 ab , and a p300x2 ab. I was under the impression I have the best . Well I know that's subjective but , if there is an upgrade from where I'm at; I don't know about it . I'm always open to suggestions.

I wish I had the knowledge to describe what I feel is missing . I bought the prs80 because the shop told me it would automatically adjust the eq settings , and Time alignment. Is this not true ? Also I was just planning ahead for more volume in the front for when I really turn it up with so much sub .

    My system as of today

My second post per the newb rule . So my system as of today is .. I think I'm off to a good start . I want more volume , and energy. Big supprise. Lol .

Why do diffrent drivers matter ? As long as both are capable of the same share of the spectrum, and power handling ? Is there a science to this conclusion , or experiance ? I really only wonder about the t/a because with my prs80; when I switch from drivers to front there is a significant overall volume diffrence . The drivers setting is louder on all channels. As my listening tastes , I love loud music . It helps me focus . I regularly listen at level 51 out of 63 on the deck . Thanks to all who have replied .
