  1. If I get a new battery and forget the alternator for now, should I get one to replace the one under my hood or just wire it up in the trunk and have my stock battery as well, or will that be detrimental to my alternator...?

    upcoming spl competition help

what year is yous? externally im 38x17x19 and It has a lil breathing room, after displacement its maybe 4.1... I really dont want to build an spl only box just because I dont want to spend the time for a one or two time use box and then need somewhere to store it, otherwise I could just have fun and build a 4^3 42 or so hz box and kick some arse, but its even more fun to hit high in the mid 30s with flex while everyone else is doing 42-45's and just rattling.

thanks for the placement ideas, do you mean pushed closest or farthest from the cab? i have the port on passenger side right now, so if that makes a difference you may have just won for me ... actually in the last comp since im tuned at 31 my peak was at 36, If I can manage some 45's in the corners that should go up to 37 or 38... I dont know what the mic is and I mean its outlaw... but I got 148.2 last time I had it port passenger side about center of trunk drivers window halfway down. I would love to break 150, just dont know if it's possible
  4. based on pricing, and assuming I would only do one or the other for quite a while, would the battery or alternator be the best place to start? 165 alt... 200+ for battery for something decent, what is a good under hood battery? What is a good battery for both systems and under the hood? ... My local shop has a stinger sp1700 for 200 but I think it is too large for under the hood thanks for the input so far
  5. i have 1/0 big three and when pushing hard with 1500 watts i drop to 10v, Ive been saving for an extra kinetik and then assume ill be fine, so to halfway answer your question... most likely you can do 1500 or so

    8" sub, need some help

lol wow that l7 is so stealth! Anyone know which can get louder/handle more power when comparing the dd 1508 to to ss rli-8? I dont know any other beefy 8's between 150-175, and I cant tell which can handle more/get louder

    upcoming spl competition help

Thanks for the tips The comp is just at a local store, so anything goes for rules pretty much, and im gonna try to get my current box as loud as possible.. the only mod I can think of without tearing it apart is to 45 all the corners by cutting the pieces and fitting them in through the sub hole and putting them in place, which should raise me 1 or 2 hz. Last time I had it revved up some, lol the guy that tied me had a focus with a fart cannon and he was bouncing of the rev limiter it sounded so bad... all I can figure is his box is horrible if he has two ten inch solox's and 3000+ watts and tied my low tuned q... but it would be awesome to win especially since I just ordered an fi shirt and no one in my town knows about them.

sorry i guess it would help to say its a honda accord, so midsize sedan, with the mic in the windshield on passenger side, and its outlaw so windows can be wherever is loudest

I have absolutely no clue how to use round/aero ports, im assuming you mean have two sets of the same diameter but varying lengths for different tuning? how do I tune those I've only ever used RE's calculator... also the owner of my local shop said its louder facing the trunk instead of into the car because of what i think he said was "quarter roll effect" does anyone know anything about this?

12" fi q in reg cab s10 with leg room!

definitely buckets lol, its a huge accomplishment to fit this thing somewhere with a bench seat...
  13. So I have a 15" fi Q with a 1500 watt clarion amp in my accord, but im looking to trade in the q for something else. I can not afford a new amp, or any electronics upgrades, so 1500 @ 1 ohm is my max power. Im tired of the q because i have almost no trunk space right now and it makes grocery shopping for 3 or 4 people kind of difficult. Im not sure if it would sound good in a 3^3 ish box but FI says it can be from 2.8-4, but something new is always fun so ill probably switch out. I want to stay as close as possible to as loud as I am now, and want it to sound even from low lows to higher lows...(my 45-60 response is rather weak right now but i think its because its a 4^3 box at 31hz) Subs i'm considering: 2 10" fi ssd's 2 8" soundsplinter rl-i8s if they ever are in stock again(very small box and lots of wow factor) 1 underpowered 12" btl 1 12" bl with some beefy options I dont want to spend more than 400, and id like the final enclosure to be 3^3 or less. I noticed FI recently lowered prices which makes them even extra appealing :bigclap: Ive never heard any of these before, and dont know much about other companies, and am basically looking for input as to which setup can potentially be the loudest while still sounding good, or if you think my q will sound good in a 3^3 box. please and thank you for replies.

    Looking for something new/ changeup

lol when you live in a 4 bedroom apt with the only car there is not backseat/floor space I had it sealed when I first got it running at 4 ohms so only 800 watts, i still have the box maybe ill throw it in there at 1ohm and if I really like it ill keep it, but 2 rl-i8's are so appealing just for the wow factor and a ported box for them is smaller than mine sealed. My town is also huge on kicker so to everyone i know my sub is GOD, so I can easily get 375 for the sub and the box I have it in, so all of my options just hurt my head and its nice to get others opinions.

Fi bl sub enclosure for single cab s10

to be more specific with my center console box... port goes behind passenger seat... I was weary of this design at first too for acoustical properties, but blowthrough was not an option so this was the only choice. I personally think it sounds amazing, a great output with very even response, and the bass is coming from everywhere you cant hear it 10 inches in front of you or right behind your seat(as the passenger)... its just there p.s. amazing system thumper

Yea i was trying to avoid building an spl only box, and hoping to just upgrade this/fine tune things as much as possible. In this box I peaked at 36hz, so im thinking 38-40 would be ideal for spl, but again I dont think I want to build another box... what is an average spl tuning in a mid-size sedan, if there is an average?

    sq design

I liked it sealed, but the extra ported volume i like. Im not specifically refering to the q but any sub in general, or is this too far from being able to generalize?

    sq design

Sorry if I was rude, I just want to know if anyone has experience with the same sub in a smallest vs the largest recommended enclosure and if that affects how even the sound reproduction is, I am not aware of a better thread title or section to post this in.

    Kicker 12" L5 hatchback enclosure

I love these designs and kerf cuts!!! I would love to try something like this sometime... how do you measure for the kerf cuts to come out right, and do you just add an inch or so to port length to accommodate for rounding the end of it?
  20. So i know hifonics isnt the best of companies, but ive heard mixed opinions about the 2008 brutus amp lineup as to whether or not it does rated power, I was wondering if anyone knows for sure what they output(specifically the 1608) or has any birth sheets/ done any bench testing. If not what do you think the bxi1608d does at 1 ohm and at 2 ohm, it claims 1600 at 1 and 1100 at 2...
  21. Smanleyman

    hifonics?

does anyone have a guess or sheet saying what the 1600 puts out? imy brother just got one and im curious what hes actually getting... its much louder than his alpine 400 and sounds as good, i just dont want him thinking he has 1600 watts but i dont what he actually has, how do you use a dmm to measure output?

Question about my 15 inch Q

the 12" q has been tested up to 1600 watts easy, 1800 for a burp is the highest comfortable power, the 15 is either the same or more, so i wouldnt feel bad hooking a brutus 1600 to it and giving it probably 1200 or so watts with reasonable gain, however like everyone else is saying hifonics isnt the most reliable amp.... but theres a warranty so its really up to you, if you want straight budget the brutus isnt that bad

    From: sq design

i understand m5 knows a lot, hes on the tech team, but that doesnt merit rudeness and i think my question is legit along with my title and section
  24. Smanleyman

    From: sq design

that doesnt change anything, i asked a very specific question and would like an answer to it instead of some rude person coming and saying "readress your question because your an idiot." all i want to know is if min/max box size affects the evenness of sound output, if you cant answer that then dont post at all please and thank you.

    Big 3

i wonder the same thing, i always thought you should fuse alt to bat + since in most stock vehicles it is fused, so obviously it serves some purpose, but ive heard a lot of people say they dont...
