Thank you very much I appreciate it, stick around as there are more things to come and I'll be addressing some things I should of executed better.

I’ve recently picked up a 2021 VW Arteon SEL-P RLine with the Harmon Kardon in it. Low end lacks a lot, so I’m looking for a way to integrate a better sub setup.

    Again, great work!

mrray13 I was hoping you could help me out. I have 2 sound splinter RLS 12's and I need to build a box. I have 2 EAW la215 that I am running in my living room as my left and right channel. Im a bit of a record nerd. So my system is 2 turntables and crest amps. So I have a space that would work great for the subs. Its about 5 cubic feet per box I could go smaller if need be but thats about my max in size. Now the question is should I go sealed or should I go ported. I listen to a lot of classic dance music. Disco rare funk, electro, afro jazz. I always kind of lean torwards ported boxes.  Do you think I sould just build two seprate boxes that are 5 cubic feet and then port them if I dont like the way they sound? From what I know this driver loves big boes. The bigger the better. What do you think I should build?? thansk for any help you can give me on these drivers.

Home? Well, not a big home theater guy, and honestly, been out of audio for a while. M5 might be a better person to ask.

That said, with 2 of them, and enough power, larger, sealed boxes would be my choice. Highlight the lows of the music you listen to, keep it clean and responsive.

Assuming you're a LEO then.  Same here, except im a CO so not so much focus on extended running, as there are many barriers to stop them, more just need the strength to gain control.

Almost 10 years LEO now, and fixing to up my activity as I'm moving to a larger department, pending the remaining psych interview (just completed a 900 question written interview) and medical exam. Passed the physical abilities exam. New department is a Department of Public Safety , so I will get cross trained in firefighting. Took the entire physical abilities test in full turn out gear, except 1 mile run. Heart rate never got above 150, so I know the lifting/running is working.

Now to lose this stubborn ass spare tire.

  5. Except for planned rest days, I don't know what to do with myself if I don't lift. And honestly, running everyday I lift has ingrained that into the routine. Although I cripe, I look forward to it. Being an asthmatic, I know every minute running is only helping me out! Not too mention when the bad guys are confused as fuck that the old guy is still on their heels, lol....

  6. As I sit and think about it, he had a Spark-o-Matic power booster thing, 3-ways in the front, 6x9's in boxes in the trunk and some small speakers on the rear deck. Those had some weird slide adjustable volume control thing. But that little car beat pretty good.

  7. Man, I remember Sunshine Audio, Pueblo, CO, did a Astro van with 4 15's. Left front and first row rear seats in it. Sat in the rear at the State Fair, God I was in heaven!! Was Kicker gear. Just had to have it.

Friend of mine had a little two door Toyota, Blauphunk (spell?) head unit, and are you sitting down? Spark-o-Matic for speakers/subs! It was actually pretty loud and musical. Well, by 1986 or so, standards,,,,lol

  8. This afternoon will be my first day back in 1.5 weeks, flu + asthma = severe asskicking!

Just prior, was lifting/running 2 days, rest, 2 days, rest 2. I stretch and run for 20 minutes just before lifting. I've still got gut to lose and other gains to make..lol.

At 46, I'm in better shape then my 20's, save cardio. Also, I'm 50pds heavier, so only grabbing the rim now...lol.

  9. Just over three years ago, my family went through the same thing. I know your pain, and I, along with my family, wish you and yours strength and peace during this tough time. Grandpa was the center of our family, and it's been quiet without him. He was my son's best friend.

I wish you all well, and my your grandfather rest in peace.

  10. Wow, talk about a car audio loss! Mike set the bar so high in terms of customer service, very few, SSA being one of the few, will ever get close. Mike, you will be missed as much as your stellar products, if not more so.

Was it really 7 years ago I took a chance on a relatively unknown company called SoundSplinter and rolled the dice on the rl-p 12 for the wife's car? A subwoofer I still own to this day. A subwoofer, that coupled with Mike's customer service absolutely won me over. Sealed, ported, didn't matter, it produced. Then I got the first rl-i8, signed by the man himself, available for the public. A sub I still own, and use in a small, .17ft^3 net sealed box on my gaming tv/stereo set up. Everyone freaks out when they hear it, and realize it's just an 8. It, like Mike, is just that badass!

Mike, I can't believe this has happened to such a great guy. I hope you get the financial side figured out, and like the other's have said before, I hope you find a way to get back into the business! We, and the business as a whole, will miss ya man! Stay in touch, my email hasn't changed!

  11. In a world where the biggest wheel seems to always win, regardless of how practical it is, I'm sure this woofer will deliver. Like Tirefryr mentioned, it's all about marketing, and guess what this thread is doing? Yep, marketing that sub. It's being talked about, which means Cadence is being talked about, which means this thread will show up on a search engine somewhere, and the cycle will continue.

So, how is that sub not working? Sure looks like it's delivering to me, lol, albeit in a way most of you aren't used to talking about. Even Clarion had a huge sub at one time, and it was installed on a boat.

Who knows? Maybe some rapper with a 'burban on 30's will want a 32" sub??

The ZR1 is a monster, I really like the Z06 too!!

While not the SLP variant you have on your desktop...

It's my Rally Yellow 1LT/RS. It has been massaged a bit, with an Injen CAI, ARH long tube headers and hiflow cats, Flowmaster Super 44 mufflers and Trifecta tuned ECM and TCM. It has run 9.1 @ 82mph in the 1/8th and has seen it's limited top speed of 155mph. Currently sitting with ~280rwhp and ~250lb-ft of torque. Not bad for a 3700pd automatic 3.6ltr v6, lol!

I had saved up enough cash to get one of those. Unfortunately I got cancer and was out of work for almost a year, and my wife was going back to school. So i used almost all that money to survive for that year. So now we are going to Rome in April with what is left over... so no Camaro for sandt.

Getting well and going to Rome kinda trumps the Camaro bro. Stay well and enjoy Rome, that is priceless, cars are a dime a dozen!

  13. Kent, did you ever get the timing issue figured out?

Somewhat. I've moved the IAT sensor back to the factory location, so the car is seeing intake air temps slightly above ambient, instead of 10* below. That, with always running 91 minimum, has pulled it in to where I'm seeing 6-8* being pulled instead of 12-14* on the big end. I still think some of it has to due with my exhaust being a bit too free flowing, and the resonance from it is tricking the knock sensors into pulling timing that doesn't need pulled. I'm going to head to the track here soon, and see what happens officially. I think, too, that by losing so much back pressure, I've lost some top end, and might try a resonated x-pipe to both tone down the exhaust and add some back pressure over the factory h-pipe. What do you think?

Thanks J! It's my DD toy, lol!!

    wheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee :slayer:

Can you hear it knocking? I hate knock sensors as they are easily skewed due to harmonics. Many times they sense something that isn't there. I'd try and unplug them or shut them off if possible. As for the exhaust, reducing back pressure will free up top end power and lessen the torque.

Nope, can't hear it knocking at all. The sensors are really sensitive I think. That's due to the fact this motor has 11.3:1 compression, but can run on 87. The DI helps by cooling the pistons, but it also hurts trying to to hear subtle stuff as the injectors tick loudly. At around 500-700psi at idle, and upwards, if not more then, 1200psi on throttle, I can see why, lol.

I might try and unplug them and see what happens.

As to the back pressure, be it topend, or torque, I think I'm a bit too freeflowing. Even if a resonated x-pipe only cures the harmonic problem I think I have, it'll be worth it!!
