    2 systems, 1 car....discussion

There's no reason why you couldn't run things that way. Just be careful when you get around the 90-100Hz area, at that freq it could start to pull the sound stage to the rear. You'll know w/o a doubt were the subs are at and you (ideally) don't want to be able to place the location of any speaker. I know I've only got a few posts in here, but I've been in this when a lot of these so called informants were still in diapers. I'm not that old, I'll be 33 in 2 weeks, but I've been at this since around April '92. It's a passionate hobby of mine. A great stress reliever.
  2. I had a gen 1 S12L7 in a 1.75 cf box tuned to 40Hz and off of a ZR240 at 2 ohms (~450 wrms for that amp) in a '94 Bravada hit a 141.1, so 2 S10L7's in almost 3 cf should suffice. I'd recommend 1.20 per sub and use the remaining .6 for port.

    2 systems, 1 car....discussion

it would work if set up right. Yea the SQ might suffer, but it wont matter what anyone here says, you CAN mix5 different brand of 10's in the same ride. It comes down to what plays what freq. You'll need to bandpass all of the subs except for the one that you'll designate for the last set of freqs. Example: 10" 1 plays 100-140Hz PB 10" 2 plays 80-100 Hz PB 10" 3 plays 60-80 Hz PB 10" 4 plays 40-60 Hz PB and 10" 5 plays 40 Hz on down. LP It's VERY unpractical to set a system up this way, but it can be done. Now if you were to use two of those subs to play the same freqs then things will start happening. Cancellation, the sensitivity ratings on the 2, one could over power (in sound) the other one. A whole slew of things.
  4. I've heard of them. Never used their stuff, but another fellow member on another forum did and he loved them. FWIW.

What is LOW frequency to you guys?

Anything below 20 Hz is pointless IMO. Only 1 sub made could play that low w/o distortion below 5%, PG Cyclone. On older rock I'd emphasize the 45-25 Hz range.

    eq

EQ's never hurt AS LONG AS you use them right. If you don't use them properly, they'll reek havoc on a system. I have more then I know what to do with. 206 bands spread out through 6 channels.

    2 Way for the Silverado

Why not? Re-enforce the back of the door panel and you have the extra stiffness for the added speakers and the grill covers them up to look stock still. As I mentioned, for the added space. Though I left out for the sub/s. I did a 2" lift and have a 3 cf box. Amp rack mounted on the back wall.....that's all. I have played w/many a locations for tweets and that's the best so far. I've tried above the speaker grill in that triangular section on the top of the door. SUCKED! made custom pods for the mid and tweet in place of the original speaker grill, mid sounded good, but the tweeter SUCKED, no matter what direction it was pointed at. There's to many relfections/obstuctions in our type of truck and being that tweeters are so directional the best place I have found, and many others too, is in the A-pillars. I don't have the time on some of these forums or the post counts, but I've been in this game for over 16 years.

    2 Way for the Silverado

Yea, I know all to well just how much room is back there. ON <<<< the door itself you can fit an 8", on the door panel you can fit up to two 6 1/2 mids behind the factory grill, tweets in there as well and I recommend tweets dead center of the A-pillar. Direction depends on the tweeter itself. If you have the ext cab, raise that rear seat up 2" if you still need the rear seat, as I do and did, for the added room. I can tell you what will/wont fit in all 3 types of GM trucks, std cab, ext cab, crew cab. As there's one of each owned by myself and family. I helped put systems in theirs too.

    2 Way for the Silverado

May I ask what year your truck is? That would help me in what sizes/placement I could recommend.

    favorite brand names

I'll go by items for this one. HU: From day 1 I've always loved Clarion (back in '92), my 1st HU was a Clarion 6770, my 2nd HU was a Clarion DRX9175L= stolen so I got my 3rd HU a Clarion DRX9375r. I sense aquirred a PG ZPA0.5 amp and needed a hotter signal and sense a friend of mine has always been an Eclipse fan (back in '92 as well, his 1st HU was the Eclipse ECD-415) my wife got me the Eclipse CD8455 for my birthday. So those are my top two choices for HUs. Speakers: The Dynaudio System 242 MKII were the best I've ever had. I've been through a lot of components and favs are, Dynaudio, Morel, PG, Focal, Clarion top line, and the older MB Quarts. Subs: First and formost, TREO. Hands down love em. PGs XMAX, XS, Ti Elite, and Cyclone, and Kickers round Solo-barics. Amps: Where to start??? My first amp was a Clarion APA4160. Loved it, ran it hard and it never faultered. Kickers ZR/ZX/XS amps. Very under rated and built to last. The winner has to go to Phoenix Gold though with their ZX/ZPA series amps. Even back to the M series. PG built them for pure raw SQ power. Love them so much today that I still run them. Processors: Audio Control for their top quality and features and PGs older stuff, ie the 215ix, EQ230/232, Basscube.......

    Welding cable

I for the life of me can't remember what FTW stands for so please refresh my memory. But I concur, welding wire is the way to go. That's what I'll be using on any of my other installs after the one I currently have. I was a welder the the past 9 years and I have never seen the cable crack or split, even after it was on fire! Go with it, you'll be OK.
