Attn: all 12" Fi Q enthusiasts!

I have 2 of them in a sealed box. I ran the numbers through WinISD and came up with 2.48 cu ft of airspace so I built my box to 2.479 cu ft I only have my Big Belle pushing 600 wats to it and it sounds fantastic! I am however looking for an amp that will put out more 2ohm power than my beloved Belle Jman

    A couple of FI Q 12 questions

Thank you sir I will most likely try both types of boxes. I literally listen to every kind of music with the exception of country. IE: a 2 hour trip to the 'rents I may listen to TI, Van Morrison, Pantera, and Sara Mclaughlin That takes care of ? 2 and 3, for ? 1 I would need a different amp to run both subs wouldn't I?

  4. Hello all I have just received 2 FI Q 12s dual 2ohm subs. Now I am having all kinds of battles with self over what to do with them!! 1st issue is my amp is a Memphis Belle 5ch. If I run both subs, my wiring options are .5 ohm, 2ohm, and 8ohm. The amp is not .5ohm stable, only has 600watts at 2ohm, and not sure what it would be at 8ohm(only 400 at 4ohm). Would 600 be enough watts for 2 subs?? I have a Trans Am so if running both, I would have to have a sealed box. Is this doable without changing amps? I have been thinking of just running 1 sub and selling the other. If I do, I could choose a sealed or a ported enclosure. I have read the sticky about enclosure size my question is does FI have a preference for type of enclosure? Is sealed considered better or ported? One more question concerning using only 1 sub. My Belle does roughly 1200 watts at 1ohm which should be more than enough for a single sub. My ? is I have read that running subs, especially SQ subs, at 1ohm is a bad idea and should be ran at 4ohm? Is there anything to this? Again, this would put me at buying new amps and maybe point me back towards running both subs sealed. Any ideas, hints, suggestions, etc. is greatly appreciated. Jman

    enclosure suggestions for FI Q12s?

Cool, thanks fellas We recommend using a sealed box in the neighborhood of .8-1.5 cubic feet of volume (after all displacements for those wondering). (I personally think that 1.2-1.3 cubic feet is optimal imo) Ported box we recommend using 1.8-2.5 cubic feet @ 28-33Hz (I personally think that a 32hz tuning is optimal, and has the most output and is still the most musical daily driving). Use 12-16 square inches of vent area per cubic foot of volume. So for 2, I just double these? I have to get home (I drive a truck) and take some measurements, but I am pretty sure I can do a sealed enclosure for both up on that ledge. 2.4-2.6 should be very doable. What kind of power would I need for both? Would a mono-block amp of 1000 watts be enough for both or need more? Thanks for the heads up guys. Again, any help or suggestions is greatly appreciated. 6. I am pretty sure I have neither the room or the amp for 2 of the Qs but I am getting 2 of em for $260 If I did want to change amps and run 2 Q12s, how much air space would I need to do them justice in a sealed enclosure? I have started to consider using both after a day to think about it. Initially I was only going to use 1. So, I guess I have 3 questions enclosure space for 2 sealed enclosure space for 1 ported enclosure space for 1 sealed Thanks for any and all help Jman Oh, the car is my 2001 Trans Am, I kinda want to use the space available on top of the gas tank in the rear hatch and get my ttop space back. If not familiar with the hatch in a 4th gen f-body, check out page 2 of my cardomain site. I have a few pics there and could take some more if needed. Thanks again

Thanks for the welcomes guys If it doesn't get me in trouble with mods, I will go ahead and ask my 1st ? I am pretty sure I have neither the room or the amp for 2 of the Qs but I am getting 2 of em for $260 For years, all the 80's and 90's, I ran sealed boxes but back in early 2000 I ended up going to a 3.2cuft ported box with a 15 RE sub and loved it. Recently I have ran a couple of different Diamond Audio 12s ported with great results. Do you think I will be able to be satisfied with a sealed box for a single Q 12? I am not sure if I will have room for ported in my car. I kinda want my Ttop storage space back for the tops and for groceries or whatever. I want to build a box that sits up on the ledge above the gas tank. I would love to run both Qs but 1) I would need all new amps, the Belle is only 600w at 2ohm and not 1/2ohm stable and 2) there is no way to have room on that ledge for 2. So..........I guess what I am asking is, how much total space would I need to port a single 12 Q for best performance? Or if I go sealed, will it be acceptable? I know this second question is subjective, but by way of example I recently built a small sealed box for my D6 DA sub and the difference from the ported was frankly rediculous! I mean some music I could tune it to sound ok but for most it was terrible (compared to the ported). Ok I will stop rambling now :D:D Jman

Hello everyone I read the forum topics and said all newbies have to post in here so here I am. I am on a mission to do a SQ type install in my Trans Am and have been following lots of links to this site and wanted to read more than the opening post I have an Eclipse 7200MKII head unit, this weekend I will be installing a set of Pioneer 720PRS components running active, just made a purchase for 2 FI Q12s D2 subs. My amp currently is a Memphis Belle 16st1300d 5 ch. I will be asking some questions, mainly regarding the subs, box, and amp. So, please be patient if they are seemingly newbie idiot questions. Jman
