Kram3r's Tahoe Build Log (DC audio)

Hey guys. Going to go ahead and start up a build thread. This will be our first audio build, so I'm hoping it goes right. It's going to be for a 2005 Chevy Tahoe Z71 4x4. A little background on the truck: raised 3" with torsion keys, front brush guard, 33" BFG Mud Terrains, PA system, and straight pipes with 5" tips. What's going to be going in it: Sub: (1) 18" DC Audio Level 5 Amp: (1) AudioQue AQ2200D Rear Battery: (1) Deaka 9A31 Front Battery: (1) Yellowtop Wiring: Knu flex 60ft of 1/0 power wire (1 full run of pos & neg) Knu RCAs (I noticed these came in a fancy little box... pretty nice) Knu 8ga speaker wire Headunit: Pioneer AVIC-X910BT http://www.sonicelectronix.com/item_19739_Pioneer+AVIC-X910BT.html So far all we have done is built the amp/battery enclosure. It goes between the two captain seats in the rear. We're still not quite through with it. Got to carpet it, and we got to put on the top, hinged piece. But some pictures: http://img29.imageshack.us/i/photopr.jpg/ http://img821.imageshack.us/i/photovtg.jpg/ http://img824.imageshack.us/i/photocj.jpg/ If anyone likes this idea and would like my stechup design of it, I'd be more than willing to post it up. The amp will mound on the left side of the box next to the battery. Some pictures of the truck: http://img508.imageshack.us/i/photoda.jpg/ http://img22.imageshack.us/i/phototm.jpg/ Also, we have Khaotik enclosures designing the box right now. So hopefully, they should finish up soon, and we can start up the box build! BTW, I'm getting 4x8 sheets of 3/4" MDF board from my local wood supplier for $9 a pop! He's got the lowest prices I've ever seen on it.

    Few port questions...

Anything else? Everything good. I would suggest sub up port back, Under-powering is not bad for sub-woofers, Overpowering however is. What answer in his reply would change it to port up? I'm trying to figure out how all the added info he posted changes the port direction other then spl or daily. School me! You guys tend to want to know all the variables to come to an answer and never explain HOW you come to said conclusion. Can't learn that way. I would have said port back based on the first question because that seems to be a basic rule of thumb in suv's. Which I derive from answers to questions like this. Which means I could be learning the wrong thing. See my point? I was kind of curious as to what some of that information had to do with it as well, but oh well. But anyways, the vote is for sub up, port back?

1 18" DC Level 5. Still waiting for some other bits to come in (amp/battery). But in the mean time, we want to go ahead and start on the box. We were thinking of these two options. 1) Sub up/ports up. Have sub in middle, with a port on each side of sub instead of a single port. Does anyone see any negatives to this besides using up more wood/cost more? etc... Basically would like to do it this way because OCD side is taking over, and we would like to keep it symmetrical. 2) Sub up/port back. This would just be sub up, with a single port along the bottom of the back of the enclosure. Pretty straight forward. Basically, just looking for yall's opinions. Which do you think would work better/be louder? It'll be in a 05 Tahoe btw.. And once we decide exactly what we want, we'll be looking for someone to design it.

    DC Lv5 18" Enclosure

Ok guys, I'm gonna need some help with an enclosure. First, some background. I have a friend who everyone had him talked into buying the usual kicker stuff, but luckily I got to him in time. This will be his first setup. Anyways, I coached him through buying an AQ2200D (could have chosen a better amp, I know, but his budget was sort of limited and we didn't feel like going through the hassle of looking for used deals on others), an 18" DC Lv5, and all the other bits. Should all be getting here by the end of this week. Alright now to the enclosure: The vehicle is a 2005 Tahoe Z71 (captain chairs in the rear). Now I measured awhile back, but if I remembered right, it should be 42" (side-side), and 33" (backseat-tailgate) (I'll double check asap). We want to do sub up/ports up or sub up/port back (suggestions?) with sub in the middle and a port on each side (sub up/ports up), or have sub in middle with port on the back. Now the only stipulation is, he would like to have some room to put a cooler/luggage back there. So we were thinking of using up all the room from side to side, and only using what's needed going back to get the optimal volume. We're thinking of placing the battery between the captain seats and making a battery/amp rack to hide the battery. I'm most likely going to be using 1" MDF all the way around and double it up for the baffle with of coursed 45 degreed angles. Do you think we should use further bracing? And I know that DC hasn't done any parameters on it, so what's everybody doing for them (volume, port area, etc)? Also, if it's possible, would anyone be willing to sketch us up a drawing? Thanks in advance.

    ~The Right Sub~

Why does it HAVE to be bought off of eGay?

    SAX100.4 - 3 Channel Output?

Why not buy a sub amp? If you are going to do something, do it right.

    4 Fi X 12's in Single Cab Chevy 1500

I would have turned that one sub around 180 degrees so the logo would face the same ways as all of the others. But, that's just me.

damn, your prices on subs are the same as SSA's right? This seems like a damn good deal when my birthday rolls around (May 20, just in time )

New system sounds like crap. help

On certain amps (such as AudioQues), the Bass Knob does not distort the signal. Bass knob at high is equal to having no bass knob plugged in. In only affects it when you dial it down.
