SPL Blazer... Hadn't looked at that organization for two reasons...didn't know it existed until last week and because of the SPL part of the name after I heard about it. I only do around a 125 on the meter so as you can see SPL isn't anything I'll be doing for competition. I'll be in Sedalia, MO this weekend for the USACi show there if anyone is interested. As far as I know, no one on our team is using 10's as anything other than a sub, although I guess they could be used that way, I would have to ask Ray to be sure. Sir-Lance, a pair of 6's in each door of your truck would be nuts and would find any rattles you have in your doors! (like you haven't already with those giant subs you have!) I try not to be biased, but it's hard to prove, especially when I can't give the detailed explanations that some of the other, more knowledgeable members here can. I prefer to let others listen and make their own decisions. Sir-Lance, TJ Lacharite will be running SIXTEEN of the 10's in his truck in a wall with just one 8" component set up front for mids/highs. We are hoping to have it finished before finals this year. The guy who beat me was Randle (Cablguy on here) and after the sheets were tallied correctly, there was one point difference in his and mine. I was in a different class than I normally run, usually I run Modified Q, but since we had multiple vehicles in the same class, I changed to one with install to see how I would fare. So LP/Blues went one-two in Modified SQ+, with John Neal (6Appeal) taking 2nd in my normal class. The car that beat him was a blue Scion, but I never saw the actual car. Todd Crowder told me which car it was and that it sounded pretty darn good. I wish I would have gotten to hear it. I'll try to find out who owns it and what they run for you. As far as IASCA goes, I've never seen or heard of an IASCA show near me, but would love to enter one to see how the truck would do. I'll look on their site to see if I can find a show near me and make plans to attend. Do you know of any off the top of your head that are close to Springfield, MO?

Thanks for the kind words, they make the hard work worth it. I did a complete rebuild of the truck the week of the show in Platte City/Kansas City and literally finished the install the morning of the show. I turned the last screw hooking up the wires, plugged in all RCA cables and speaker wires, turned the key to make sure everything played, locked the truck, took a shower, got dressed, and drove to the show. The new amp rack allows the seat to go further back so it images better than before. I also finally got the a-pillars done so the tweeter mounts look finished and as OEM as possible. All that's left is to finish the dash bezel so the radio is flushed in and I'm done. There's not much else I can do to it. The next one is the MGB, but I won't compete with it, too many things to overcome with the car and no room to do it. The component sets at least are in and shipping, as are the 8's and 10's. The amps are about a year away unfortunately, but the wait will be worth it. Just watch the website for updates. Thanks again for the kind words!

If you came in the front where NW Audio had the store set up, there were three or four cars that were their demo cars in the lobby. Pass those and go into the staging area, there was a Fosgate demo van just to the left. I was two or three cars down from that, against the wall, almost to the corner. I tried to contact you through the forum to let you know where I was. Maybe next time you'll be able to find me. You have my number, give me a call and we can co-ordinate the next time.

They were doing awards around that time, give or take a little. I didn't get out of there until after 5:30 by the time I said goodbye to my buds and got the truck loaded back up. You should have called me, I would have liked to have seen the mustang in person!

The show was a blast! I had a great time and send a huge thank you to all the N W Audio crew who made it happen. Looking forward to next year!

^X2 Patience is the best thing you can have when installing your own gear. Take your time and you will see the results of a job well done. I have blown up far more things trying to rush through something because I couldn't wait to hear it only to have to rip it all out and start over when something went wrong. Like Sir-Lance said, look through the build logs, get a feel for what it takes to tackle a project and be realistic with your skills when starting one. It never hurts to push the envelope on your skill set and look at it this way, if it doesn't work out, you didn't fail, you just found a way that won't work! Like everyone else has said, I wish my father had been into audio when I was growing up. (well, at least getting older, do we ever really grow up?) The effort you guys are putting into this project will really pay off in the long run, and the attention to detail is incredible. Your son is a very lucky young man. Keep up the good work!

X2 All good advice right there. What sounds good to us might not sound good to you and vice versa. If you don't have many shops near you, try to go to a few shows and listen to the cars there that are similar to yours to get an idea of what works in your vehicle and what doesn't. Without a budget it's hard to recommend anything for you. Give us a budget and we can offer more help.

That sounds like a good idea with the MDF rings underneath. Plus it'll give me a chance to use my circle jig. =D What material did you use to dampen? I should have some extra b-quiet ultimate laying around to use. Would that be OK to use on the underside? I used some old dynamat that I had laying around to dampen, but any good damping material would work. As you know, just make sure that the backside of the q-form is cleaned well with alcohol to make sure it sticks. Here's a couple of pics showing the rings I used on the backside. Hope that gives you some ideas!

On mine, I used a dremel with a spiral cutting bit as suggested above, used liberal amounts of damping material on the back side, and also used a piece of 1/2"mdf on the backside for the screws to have something to bite to. I'll try to get pics tonight and post them if you would like to see. The difference was noticable from the damped pair to my undamped pair, those buzzed like a hive full of bees.

Pods look great! The wrap job on the vinyl must have been crazy to do by yourself, I'm very impresssed. Wanna wrap my a-pillars when I get them done? At least you got some extra hands the 2nd time around to help it go smoother. I'm going to have to agree with ya.....THE MID-BASS SHALL BE EPIC!!!! Keep up the good work!

OldSkool_08, I'm not sure about the TO-3's. I remember him talking to someone (I assume Jeri M) about them, and there was a LOT of discussion about TO-3 = Linear Power, and anything else doesn't, but I don't know what the final decision was. I know they were talking about the "thermal footprint" or something like that and it was about the same time they were discussing the shape of the heatsink. I do know this....whatever parts they decide to use, they will have the same reliability as before and will also still be MADE IN THE USA. As far as colors go, Ray has a guy who's doing powder coating for him and the guy does a fantastic job. As I type this, I have two heatsinks sent to him being refinished after I saw what he could do with them. I will pass along the TO-3 question to Ray and I'll also see what he says about the plum crazy color selection. The best thing I can say right now if you want to know more is to keep checking the websites for Linear Power and Blues, as he will update the site periodically. I know he's busy as heck right now trying to get the speaker line back up and running and we are doing everything we can to support him in that. After that is established, the amps are coming, and as I stated above, that's about a year away. If you want to know anything else, just PM me and I'll pass it straight to Ray, or you can email him directly. I'm waiting like everyone else to see what happens though!

Linear Power amps are roughly a year away from what I am told by Ray. He and Jeri M. are working on new designs as well as new cosmetics on the heatsinks. They will follow the same design philosophies as before, clean power, no frills, and should be better than ever. I don't know if they will bring the same amps (HV or DPS) back or not, but I'll try to find out. Right now the concentration for him is to get Blues speakers up and running first with Linear Power to follow later. Mike (Flanagan) could say better than I on timelines and what will actually make it to market. I for one can't wait to see what they have in the works.
