I know with my older Icon Aaron said there was no gap change on the motor. I have the older version with the pole vent.

Just got my 2 18 in Zcons

I've done many designs for people with kicker cvr.....You're gonna crap yourself when you hear what real subs sound like. You are in for a HUGE surprise! Good luck on your install, and post pics! We love pics!

To kick, or not to kick

I do the same on a flash drive & disc in my console. Tones on 5 second incriminates and step down sine sweep for tuning. Just make sure when you generate the tones, that you do not go over peak on the program eq. Last thing you want is clipped signals for referencing. Zoom in and look at the wave so it does not end at anything other than zero or you will hear a popping sound. On a low end for subs I prefer using a mono track so that there is no different end in the wave between left & right channels.

Install is everything...You can't just lay speakers inside your car or truck, run wire to them and expect to get the best performance out of whatever brand you bought. The quality of the equipment can only take your expectations so far. If you factor in mounting locations, materials, as well as many other variables you can either have a high quality item sound like ass or be a thing of acoustical bliss.

    Fi Q 18 Upgrade

More power would not necessarily mean larger net volume internally. I have built many, I mean many test enclosures for the icons I have and it yielded different results almost every time to the ear. To some people they can hear very minor variances in output and tuning with design & materials. However this does involve wasting a buttload of materials scrapping old ideas. That's why a well designed and built enclosure can trump more power almost every time.

To kick, or not to kick

Those enclosures look nice and clean, the pipe fittings need the galv ground off and painted/ coated the same as the enclosures. But, the look like they fit like a glove on the contour of the floor. Super nice!

I loved my Icons...also liked PSI that I have heard because they can custom build woofers. I just don't like mass produced "cookie cutter" stuff when it comes to subs. But my icons were impressive on 800rms each or 1750rms each. I currently have a single 15 loving a well tuned 2200rms daily. But I do prefer a hand built sub either way about it.

I think what everyone is refering to is the electrical resistance of cca -vs- ofc copper. Resistance is a restriction in amperage. Amperage is how fast the current flows. Voltage is the amount of current. So if there is a restriction or (resistance) you truely are robbing yourself of wattage in output. It may not sound like much, but if you cheat yourself out of one tenth of a volt or a few amps of current you in sense are cheating yourself out of potential. From the alternator through the battery into the amp out through the speaker, if there is any resistance it is energy wasted (usually in heat & thermal expansion) which either through math or meters can be measured. The actual loss can not be avoided due to physics. (nobody has the fund to use gold) With that being said, to actually use a cca wire to power a sensitive device such as an audio amplifier would not be disired unless you are willing to sacrifice not ony potential output but quality of the sound being amplified. Doubling wire actually creates more resistance. The internals of the amp & equipment are essential "bottlenecks" were the flow is restricted. This is where the quality of the material being used to carry the current comes into play. Less resistance per linear foot is far more efficient. In housing they use cca because the amperage into your house is rarely over 200 amps of one or two runs of 120 volts a/c. Since efficiency is never an concern to the people you actually pay your power bill to, they use cca wire.

Give him a chance, I hope this is a new day here on ssa. Everyone here gets respect & benifit of the doubt. Let bygones be bygones. Lord knows I've come off like an ass a time or two. Billy I hope you snap some pics & share them! Good luck on your new build!

I actually paid a donation out of my own pocket to support the forum years back. It is a membership upgrade that allowed me to have add free viewing of the pages and a larger inbox for messages. If you actually look at a lot of forums they offer "upgraded perks" for a small donation. Even apps for your phones offer upgraded memberships for users. I'm sorry you seem to be confused & angry about some things on this forum. This is a different kind of place here. The old adage you catch more flies with honey....goes a long way here. I have had a lot of members go out of their way to either help out with suggestions or info. I hope things can mellow out and you can help to curb some of the hostility that occurs far too often on other forums because the stuff usually doesn't fly here. This place is unique and in the prime days of this forum, this place set standards for how to act and be respectful to all who enjoy the hobby. Save the trash talking for the lanes... I know I've had my nuts busted a few times at shows only to have the same people share tips and tricks 5 minutes later.

Smh.....Billy, he isn't paid by ssa or any other brand....as for discounts, a lot of people get below msrp for actually installing & showing products at shows. It also helps to actually know what you're talking about. I've done my best not to disrespect you on here but come on man......this ranting isn't gaining anyone anything but entertainment via drama....

Just because you read it somewhere on the internet doesn't make it true. Amplifying power consist of basic electrical engineering. Just because boards are similar only conclude that they may have the customers wallet in mind. To have a board manufactured isn't just pennies on a dollar. Many internal parts may look identical through pics on the internet, with that in mind they may very well not be identical. I found this out a while back during my first attempts of fixing an amp. Some parts are actually special order & design. While the actual "technology" might not vary, the real world quality of every tiny resistor, diode, mosfet, tranformer, chip, ect.... makes each brand/ product unique. Electrical engineering and the actual physics behind amplifying a signal are pre-determined laws. In order to become more efficient or even have a major break through in the science would be worth billions to the patent holder. Not an easy feet. In order to gain a large jump in any aspect either power output or efficiency, something has to be sacrificed. Most often it's the cost of materials or the size. I'm not choosing sides, just trying to help anyone understand what I have learned about very little to do with building an amplifier.
