    Enclosure for 12" BTL

Yeah me too, I have been trying to design the best box for 2-12" in the future. What program did you use, just curious? I use a Box Calculator that I downloaded from a member on this forum, cant remember his name though.

    Enclosure for 12" BTL

    I came up with this design, tell me how it sounds to you: Outside = 14"H x 39"W x 14"D Inside = 12.5"H x 37.5"W x 12.5"D Port = 12.5"H x 2.5"W x 22"L (31.25in^2 of Port Area) Port Area Range = 30 - 40in^2 Sub Displacement = 0.18ft^3 Port Displacement = 0.71ft^3 2.50ft^3 @ 32.02Hz

    btl 18''

4 18 BTL's and 10000 watts doesnt sound anything like sq. I dont know much but I know that. Maybe you just got those two words mixed up? No I don't have it mixed up. I've had big system before and they have to sound like crap. But I think we are missing the subject. What is the opt. Size enclosure for these subs. OK well then go with what FI says. About 5-10 cuft at around 32hz for daily if I remember correctly.. I see most people putting them in 7-8 cuft. But 10000 watts doesnt sound like daily so probably tune higher in the 40's or 50's. Ok, thanks. I think I'll try 6cu. Per woofer tuned at@ 26hz. I'll be firing the woofer and port upward in a 92 suburban. What's your thuoghts? Why would you tune your port lower than what FI recommends and what bigrank916 said, if your gonna build it the way you want to then it really is no point in coming on here asking questions? Tune in to 30-35Hz for daily and higher for competitions.

Will this be a good set up?

x2, get the dual 1 ohm subs and wire them in series up to 2 ohms each and they will see a final load of 1 ohm(the saz1500d is one ohm stable so you will be set). Okay thanks, Seeming how i may need to upgrade some electrical, i plan on buying a new battery for my car, what kind of abattery should i go with? i heard optima red tops are good, would this be good enough to power the amp and what not? or would i have to get a HO alternator also? Thanks Yeah upgrade your Big Three wiring, your gonna need an extra battery to go with your stock battery. You shouldnt need an H/0 alternator, what other equipment will you be running and what car is it going in?

    Removing speakers from rear deck

So after listening to M5 and a couple other people on this forum who made great points to remove my 6.5" speakers from my rear deck I am glad you guys opened me up to a whole different world of sound in my car. Those 2-6.5" opening allow for so much bass to come through into the cabin of my car from the trunk its ridiculous, more ouput and better sound from my subs was gained. I used to be one of those guys who wanted millions of speakers in the interior of the car no matter where I could put them. I learned that the right placement, power, control(EQ'ing) would make up for more sound than a billion speakers in the ca (one friend used to tell me before I joined this site that any speaker I through in the car no matter if it was 2" to 6" would help out with the overall sound and would benefit, I called him yesterday to disagree and tell him my new findings). I have a quick question for you guys, I am going to fiberglass my rear deck after I dampen it: #1- I will dampen the rear deck but leave the two speaker holes(factory ones) in the rear deck uncovered so I will have a way to allow more bass in my cabin since I keep my seats up most of the time when playing music or driving around. I know that everybody on this site can find an advantage or disadvantage on why things should be done to help out with car audio, would this be an advantage or disadvantage for dampening everythind on the rear deck topside(cabin) and bottomside(trunk) but leave the speaker holes open for sound and pressure to get through? If it will benefit me to leave the holes open then I will just fiberglass around it which I think will add some creativity, just wanted to ask before I started on my rear deck. Thankx for input and .02's.
  10. What speakers do you have on the amp, how far do you have the gain knob turned up, maybe your wiring them below the amps ohm load. More information would help us help you.

What to use with Image Dynamics Horns?

Well I didnt mean you had to use the exact same speakers or brand just ask him if 2 or 3 way speaker system would do your install justice since yall will have similar sub setup (just size difference).

    Keep up with the bass

Take a picture of where you want to put them or the area where they can go and maybe me or someone on this forum can give you ideas. I joined the Image Dynamics forum and picked up a lot of info their and they will be able to help you with positioning (even though they recommend them under the dash maybe they can still help you position them somewhere else).

Your sensitivity is going back down, also check these out: http://www.eminence-speaker.com/Imgs/proaudio_proseries_03.jpg , I can do you $30 a speaker if interested and I have 4,6 or 8 of them. That price is great, and looks aren't everything.... But these will be completely visible. And the paper cone is the only thing holding me back. I do understand you on that, well if you look at my gallery the speakers in my door with the grills over them are the Eminence's (if you want to cover them up thatsa plus, there is things out their to treat the cones if need be). Its only a suggestion, keep looking.

Look with something with more sensitivity, a speaker with a sensitivity of 86db compared to one with 90db (it will take almost 2-4 of the 86db sensitivity speakers to reach the same output of one 90db speaker with the same amount of watts). This is a little higher in price, but has a 88db sensitivity. http://www.madisound.com/catalog/product_info.php?cPath=45_228_256&products_id=1464 I believe the mach 6 audio mli-65 will be cheaper with a 89db sensitivity (SSA.com under the store section). How much are you looking to spend, what amp will they go on and how many do you want?

I don't have any new messages..... I am thinking about a couple of these for tweeters. http://madisound.com/catalog/product_info.php?products_id=1358 And still not set on midranges... but I like these low prices a lot. I was really considering the ID horns for ~400 If you want those alpha's I have I could shoot you a deal. Those tweeters should do a good job since they have a high sensitivity and it looks like they will shine more at 3,500Hz @ 45watts just by looking at the graph. Those horns would be a great choice also.

    Tuning Boxes

No it shouldnt since it is still the same length as the port needed, you will just have to make sure that you subtract how much of the port that is in the enclosure to have the accurate internal enclosure specs to get the port tuned where it needs to be.

    Keep up with the bass

I understand where you are coming from but most people on this forum will tell you just to have a bomb ass front stage with a good amout of power (which is the right way if you want an accurate and properly stage speaker set up), but honestly its what you want to do and if you feel that is comfortable to have a loud interior set-up like me then you just have to bite the bullet on accuracy or anything else that will come with more speakers. I know a lot of midranges will do the trick, Im using Eminence Alpha-6c with no tweeters right now and there good enough to get the job done and get loud. I also have the Eminence Alpha-6a's for sale (they are the 8 ohm version and I have 8 available PM if interested after researching and looking around) but dont get me wrong their is plenty of other stuff out there that will get the job done. Check out Mach 5 Audio mli-65 on SSA.com (store) or madisound.com, parts-express.com for speaker selections.

    Enclosure for 12" BTL

Oh, sorry ported (vented) , i got those specs straight from their website but i done a search and found posts saying that they like more space than that What do you want it ported to, what type of music do you listen to and what amp will be used in this application? Audioque 2200d, 32hz, and a lil of everything but mostly rap/hip hop I would make the box 2.5 ft^3 @ 32 Hz and stay within what FI reccommended but Im pretty sure you could go bigger but I wouldnt go to much bigger, what are you trying to build it at?

Wanting some more advice on h/u settings since I went active recently: Front High Pass Filter @ Through Hz (40 - 220Hz) Rear High Pass Filter @ Through Hz (40 - 220Hz) Subwoofer Low Pass Filter @ Through Hz (50 - 160Hz) Loud @ Off Subwoofer Level @ -15 (goes from -15 to 15) Bass Level @ 0 (-8 to 8) / Bass Center Frequency @ 80Hz (40 - 150Hz) / Bass Q Factor @ 2.00 (1.00 - 2.00) / Bass Extend @ Off Middle Level @ 3 (-8 to 8) / Middle Center Frequency @ 1,500Hz (500 - 2000Hz) / Middle Q Factor @ 2.0 (1.0 - 2.0) Treble Level @ 6 (-8 to 8) / Treble Center Frequency @ 10,000Hz (10,000 - 17,500Hz) Sundown SAX-125.2 2 Eminence Alpha-6c/channel - Low Pass Filter Setting / Range x10 / Low Pass Frequency @ 5,000Hz / Subsonic Filter @ 150Hz or better (Temporary Subwoofer Amp) 3 Kicker CVX 12"s @ 1.33333 ohms - Low Pass Filter Setting / Low Pass Frequency @ 80HZ / Subsonic Filter @ 20 - 25Hz Mainly I want everyone to focus on my headunit settings and I threw the amps and speakers info in there so you will know whats being controlled and how. I was thinking that If I had my system on active then it would be harder for all these features to control individual drivers. For example when I was driving today I was messing around with the Treble Level and turned up to 8 and down to -8 and noticed that it still affected my Eminence's kinda curious to how that worked into play (Im guessing since it is on low pass on the amp it is still sending those frequencies to that subwoofer but not sure so any help or understanding would be much appreciated.)
  25. My first question when you change the bass level, middle level and treble level it controls all speakers including the ones on the amp? The levels go from -8 to 8, right now I have the bass at -6 (usually its at -8), the middle at 4 and the treble at 8. How do you tailor made these settings. My second question is the bass level has a Bass F(40-120hz, I keep it at 40hz), Bass Q(1.00-2.00, I keep it at 2.00) and Bass Extend (off/on, I keep it on). Could anybody explain what these settings should be around or what they mean (I know bass F is frequency) or if I should even mess with them? My third question is the middle level has a Middle F (500-2,000hz, I keep it at 500hz ), Middle Q (1.0/2.0, I keep it at 2.0).Could anybody explain what these settings should be around or what they mean (I know middle F is frequency) or if I should even mess with them? My fourth question is the treble level has a Treble F (10,000-17,500hz, I keep it at 17,500hz). Now I know it controls the trebble frequency but I dont understand how it will affect every speaker in my system, please explain? I also dont understand what is the point of setting the crossovers on the amp if we have all the features on the radio, are the ones on the amp overridden or are the settings from the radio overridden? I dont want to set the bass level to high and ruin my tweeters or mid-range speakers, i dont want to turn the middle level up and ruin my subs or tweeters with the frequncy range or change the treble level and run to high of a frequency to my mids or subwoofers. I guess Im looking for a tutorial on how the crossovers on the amp and radio either help or cancel each other and what are some recommended settings? any opinions or knowledge is more than appreciated
