    Building bookshelf speakers

I'm not really sure about what i want as I don't know too much about them. I just know the old man would like a homemade set that he's never heard of before. Originally I wanted to make him a tower 3 way setup. I'm sure the budget for that is muuuuch more lol. That is something I wasn't aware of. Damn that's a lot. I'm sure it sounds good tho they way you like to set things up. Total control

    Building bookshelf speakers

    1) Considering what this would cost I'd say about $200 2)No not entirely but I liked that these has a laminate already on them. They have flat cut set for building your own as well but its just plain MDF. Not sure how to make that look good. 3)Absolutely zero This is my 1st attempt at building a home speaker. I knew it wouldn't be easy but I know it's mainly matching one thing to another. That's why I thot it might be easier going with the recommended speakers for those boxes. Are they not any good?

    (FS) 1 SSA 10" Icon---blown

I'm not totally sure to be honest bro. It was in my daughters trunk and i know she had shit rolling around in there. That's prolly what the scratches are from but the tear in the surround is from turning up the volume to high I would assume lol.

    (FS) 1 SSA 10" Icon---blown

I have no idea how much this should be but i need to sell it. I'm not the type to recone this stuff and it costs $205 plus return shipping for me to have it sent in and done for me. That just doesn't compute when a BNIB one is $360 lol. $180 including shipping...? I could be into a trade as well. A 4 channel amp sounds good

    2002 Mercedes C230 kompressor coupe

This is the room I'm working with. I'm wondering about enclosure ideas. I was thinking about a 2 faced front wedge type box with a wide port on the bottom. Not sure if upfiring or rear firing would would best.

    2002 Mercedes C230 kompressor coupe

I took off the driver side door panel tonight to see what i'm workin with inside there. Definitely needs an upgrade for sure. I think I might even be able to fit Evil mids in the front part These plastic mounts are glued to the speaker tho so i will need to made some mods with rings i guess. Not sure about the rear speakers but they look the same size, just a smaller cover. will be getting a 4 channel amp to power all of that too. Maybe a Barbara Ann would do. keep the cost down and still give me a much needed upgrade in the front stage

    2002 Mercedes C230 kompressor coupe

I saw that with a price drop to $269. Is that ending soon? I was thinking about those too after I saw that. Can you link 2 of them together? I looked but didnt see anything noting it. If so I could eventually strap 2 of them to the Evil driver. I noticed the SSA amps too but are a lil pricey. I'd rather put more money into the driver and enclosure this time.

    2002 Mercedes C230 kompressor coupe

I've been pouring over drivers to see what would be best for me and I'd really like to go smaller this time around but still high powered or the option to go bigger. I reeaaaaaally want the Evil 12. I saw the enclosure recs were about 2.5-3.25 cuft ported at 29-33hz. The size will fit perfectly in the hatch. I was also looking at the Khaotic ported enclosure specs which are pretty close and they look pretty damn good. I'd like to make my own but I don't think I'll be on that level lol. Purchasing a design made specifically for the Evil 12 would be good tho so I can at least take a stab at it. If it doesn't work out, I can just have one made I guess. I don't plan on using any more than 2k watts. Maybe even 1500. I don't see the Crescendo for sale anymore tho. Only add to wishlist instead of add to cart. Anything to this? Are they restocking?

That's a good question! I would think so but I'm not that smart when it comes to this stuff lol. I ordered it last night with a new dash kit that I've been sorely needing. Thank you brotha!

    2002 Mercedes C230 kompressor coupe

Cars and systems come and go...well guys, this one is coming back around lol. I never did much to it that I wanted to but after a few years and thousands of miles, i'm ready to really do somethin cool. It isn't worth much these days but still a fun occasional driver. Now it needs some serious beat tho!! Not sure of all the components yet as I wanted to get a lot of input from you guys who I consider to know best for me Rough dimensions I'm working within the hatch for an enclosure is about 34W x 22D x 18H. It widens out about a foot more towards the rear. I'm absolutely not opposed to using the entire damn thing either I'm thinking a wedge box with a second face on the front would work best? I plugged in the numbers to the12volt enclosure calc and it gave me about 4cuft to work with. Prob much more if I built the box inside the hatch and remove the spare tire. I've always been a fan of the older BTL and certainly interested in the neo. I don't think I'll need more than 2k watts on the amp. I bought a Crescendo 1500 for my kid and it seems to work great. The SoundQ 2200 looks like a good value too. I used to look at those Audiopipe 1500s as well a few years ago but I'm not sure if they any good. I'd like to use a n SAZ 1500 but they are kinda pricey. Might be worth the extra coin tho as I've owned several of them before and have no complaints. The head unit is already decided. I'm picking up a Pioneer DEH-80PRS. I've always wanted that HU so I'll get to see how much better it is than all my other ones. Need to replace the stock door speakers as well. They both are located in the door. One 6.5" up front and one 5.25" in the back. There is a 1" tweet up on the pillar too. Thinking of running an amp to the door speakers? Or run them off the HU? With the amount of low end i'd like to have, I'm sure powering them with an amp would be the best idea. Id rather run passive If I went that route as active was quite a chore last trial run I did with door pods on my chevy truck. I know getting a HO alty will be kinda tricky since not many guys use Mercedes for a build lol. I used Mechman for my truck and that sucker was awesome. Held voltage on my BTL with 1500 watts at 14.2 easily and only a stock battery. If I could get away with just buying a nice extra batt instead of an alt, I'd like that. We all know you need power to make power tho. This is the only part I had trouble pondering on spending the coin for. I sold my old HO alt quick as it was very commonly used. If a few years go by and I wanna sell this one that I bought, whats the odds someone will even want it? Or someone would even build it? I think that's about it for now as i haven't done much work today. Spending the last couple days daydreaming about BASS lol.

    My daughters new ride

Hello IAK!! Been a long time since Ive been in these parts but Im lookin to put together somethin nice for my kiddos car. Most of you may not remember me or just have no clue of who I am lol. I used to be on this board quite a lot before I had a change of hobbies so to speak. Ive always kept in touch with Chop over the years...even tho there might have been a year or two I didnt get out a chritmas cookie box lol (which one is coming) Ive always appreciated a good system and referred people to this forum and SSA store whenever they wanted quality stuff. Now Im back doing the same! She just got a brand new whip and shes a newly licensed driver lol. I was hoping to get some help and ideas from the crew here and see what would work best. The car is a black 2014 Nissan Sentra. Its a 4 door sedan with no sunroof. I have one hang up that might make things difficult but thats why I have all you guys Its leased so I have to be able to put it back the way it was stock. Easy enuf right?? What I want to have is like two 10", 12", or 15" SSA woofers that are most likely ported. I know theres a lot of other brands but for subs I want SSAs lineup. Ive had Sundown but always wanted to try the flagship line. Not the best ones but pretty close lol.Watts from sub amp like about 1k-1500RMS. It can be whatever good models are out now. Idc what just as long as its quality.Trunk is pretty spacious but she needs a lot of it for her VB gear. I want this shit to knock like a mutherfucker. She has the nice whip now I want her to have the professional beat to go along with it. I have a few things to get me started but I also arent sure of how to get started. 1st off its brand new and I dont know shit about integrating something lol. What I did want to start with tho was the big 3. I knew I was gonna need that. I dont know what her stock alty puts out but Im sure i wont need a HO alt with a smaller install like this? My main wonder is how I hook up amps to the existing stereo?? Im really lost here but I know what I want to do. Thats a start. Well IAK, hit me with any questions or suggestions that you might have. I look forward to this project even more than any of my own

Ok fellas well I stopped being a lil hoe and just finished the rest of the install best i knew how lol. Here is how it turned out. I have to say I'm very impressed with this driver. For a ten, this thing sounds fucking great!!

    My daughters new ride

Well fuck me, this has turned out to be a nightmare. Brand new car with a shitty install. Man I guess this stuff used to be fun. Installing sucks. I just wanna hear it lol Oh then I spent time making an enclosure today that is too big. Bout 1.5cuft is double the optimal size. I looked at ported and kept that number in my head. I knew I shoulda just bought one. Overall I havent done this in years and it shows.

Ok I just pulled the trigger on the 10" Icon!! Now to get installing all those cables this Saturday and building a temporary sealed box!!

Don't call it a come back!

Sorry for not seeing this sooner. The ported 10 comes with bracing, but not flush mount. It is a great fit for the SSA Icon. I have the ported 12 and I flip an Icon and Zcon 12 in and out of it. Very strong, high quality enclosure. Is there any way I could special order a flush mount?
  22. bigrank916

    My daughters new ride

This sounds like a good idea actually. I will make a temp sealed box myself. I have enuf carpet and spare junk for that. She can use that for simple test enclosure and if she wants it louder, which I'm sure she will, I'll order a nice one from here. I kinda like the Khaotic enclosures. It really doesn't sound that expensive for the quality that it will be. I don't own a table saw so right there I'm never gonna make the same smooth cuts to be even able to get it balls dead accurate. The 10" ported enclosure is 1.3cuft so with the woofer, I'm looking at getting the low end of the ported size. Should I get as close to 1.5cuft as I can with woofer displacement as to keep the output higher? I know she will love this too! Gonna be epic when she first hears it regardless of the enclosure

Oh I know I would have help from the guys if I was a lil closer at least lol

Don't call it a come back!

I'm considering buying the slot ported single ten for an Icon. From reading over the last 7 pages and pics in this thread, Id say they are the perfect fit. They look amazing too. I have a couple questions about the enclosure tho. Does the ported 10" enclosure come with internal bracing? Does the double baffle still have a flush mount fit? It doesn't show in the pics but I assume the pics are just examples lol. So after sub displacement of .12 in the 1.3cuft enclosure, I'm left with 1.18cuft left. I'm also assuming that the bracing has been deducted from the advertised internal volume. Lastly, is this a good fit for the Icon? It will be going in the trunk of a 2014 Nissan Sentra, powered by a Crescendo Audio S1500.1

    My daughters new ride

I could and was but I don't want to spend $75 on materials and then buy more cause I didn't get it right. Hell I don't even think I have all the tools anymore to do it right. I have no max dimensions. Its goin in the trunk of a 2014 Sentra. Plenty of room in there
