Mounting amp to back of seat

Also I read through your build log and saw how you built the board. My problem is how do I drill through the metal when I used two drill bits made for metal and it refused to go through.

Look at my build log it will answer the question for you and show you how I did it, just to make a long story short I would and do. Wow quick response and thanks.

    bump about my knob...
  4. Well I have most things at my place ready to be hooked up sometime soon. But theres one problem, thats with donig the big three with my alt. There is a plug on the back of it that plugs into the block, its a three prong plug and those seem to be 8 gauge wire. There are three wires goign to the block then two to the battery. I do not see a ground at all. Now I have no bloody idea how I would re wire all of that. I would need a new three prong plug able to support 0 gauge wire (I would think). Ill post pictures tomorrow of it but I am very confused. If anybody has ane experience with a 02-03 passat (same engines) PLEASE let me know! As of right now I am thinking I may be out of luck with any re wiring with the engine. NOTE: I have tried to take pictures in the past but its very hard to get a clear shot. The light makes it hard to see. Maybe if I just post the new alt "three prong plug" you guys will understand.

Well I finally am starting to add some pictures here.... Workin on the car -- Just a quick look a the wiring mess behind the cdplayer -- Look at the mess on the center console -- Quick look under the hood -- notice the blue wire isn't connected to the back battery yet.... Well it is now =) The glove box is ripped off -- needed to get behind it to lay some wires -- And the mess behind the seats... MMMM amplifiers -- As we go back, we should check out some of the trunk.... (grinding off the paint to get a good solid ground) -- A quick picture of the battery sitting where the spare tire used to be... OH look no more mess -- Little mess here but nothing big... Glove box now serves the purpose it was intended of doing -- Ill toss more pics up. Too bad I already have most lines laid and forgot to take pictures
  6. But they are built tough as %$#*
  7. Well I read all of the instructions and whatnot but it seems I have ran into a strange, very strange problem. I soldered it according to the manual and the wiring harness and have three people double check my work and its done correctly. It seems I have to manually turn the cdplayer on and off no matter what state the car is in (on or off). Before when I had my old radio in whenever you took the key out it would turn off the cdplayer but not in this case. Any suggestions? Anything I should check (most of it has been double and triple by two or more people). I am just out of ideas. Its a 2003 VW Passat. I believe I did red to red wire and they both had a power sticker on it as well as what the wiring manual said for the cdplayer and the wiring kit from online (field service repair guide or something like that).
  8. Everything is working fine. Check build log for more info.
  9. Alright. Today is such a good day out that I decided to start getting somethings tossed into the car (FINALLY!). I popped off the door panels (easy) and the floor panels (pain in the ass) to start running wires. I popped out the cd player as well and kind of went oh s**** because its a wiring nightmare in there... I have been looking around online now for at least an hour for wiring diagrams to see what goes to where and so far no luck... Any ideas where I can look (or does anybody have one?). The wiring diagram that came with the cdplayer is generic and doesn't look like its correct.
  10. PROBLEM SOLVED! I soldered everything correctly and it looks like El Flaco was right. The ignition switch doesnt get passed through the wiring harness. So what I did was cut some extra wire off of my remote wire and attached it to the ignition switch for the rear wipers. Seeing as I dont have a rear wiper this worked out quite nice. As far as the 75x relay I was reading about -- hah good luck getting to it. I tried for quite some time to even find it and couldnt. And when I finally picked up one of those books (instructions; who needs them) it was deep inside the dash and it looked like the entire thing had to be removed to get to it.

Two things here -- 1) I didnt realize how much bloody work this takes to get things rockin! I have my front end installed and pics are coming soon! 2) With my front end. I have a SAX-50.4 amp. I wired the knob and everything except it doesnt do anything. The light lights up but nothing ever happens when I turn it to max. Isnt it supposed to act as a volume / gain knob? At the moment it does nothing...
  12. I read elsewhere I need to get it from the 75x relay (which I have no idea where that is but I know its under the drivers side dash). Also that website you posted -- says it doesnt exist... bahumba

    Is this amp blown?

double and triple check your gruonds. Even try re wiring your ground with a bigger gauge.
  14. Ohh this might be my problem. I need to check out the ignition and the constant 12v because my new cdplayer now stays on (check out the other thread by me in the electrical section). As far as the alt... I still need to finish wiring up most other things until the mechanic feels comfortable with tossing it in.
  15. Ok I will go over it again incase others are confused...With my OLD cd player -- I would put the key in the ignition and turn it one click the cd player would turn on. When I started up the car it will stay on. When i turned the car off the cd player would stay on until I removed the key. With my NEW cd player -- I will have to manually turn it on and off every time I enter or exit the car My head unit does the same thing, I have a Kendwood and you cant even turn the radio on with the remote you have to hold down the source button on the head unit to turn it on and off. So different brands have different methods, if you want it to stay on then leave your head unit on when you turn the car off and pull the key out, so that way when you start the car on it will come on automatically. No no no... My new cd player wont turn OFF. I have let it go for a good 20 minutes with the doors closed and key out of the ignition and it still wont turn off. As soon as I take the key out of the ignition it should turn right off. I believe I have to swap the Ignition and Constant 12v wires. The question is now is the ignition wire the yellow like it normally is? yellow and black?... well I will have to dig around and see...

I hope it wont hurt anything utnil I get it fixed Tuesday.
  17. Quick question here. Pretend I did have all the wiring together correctly, then what would it be? I have no clue... But the first few things I will check are the Red / Yellow wires. Ill also call a local install shop here to double check.
  18. Already foudn a DMM. Ill let you guys know Tuesday. Thanks for the quick response.

Most things have been put in... but I forgot my phone to take pictures =(. Maybe Tuesday when I start to work on it again I will post some. Still need to wire the amps to the battery and link (have the wire laid already) the two batteries together. This isn't that hard but WOW is it time consuming.

    questions about electrical upgrade..

I would think it would work if you had a good enough alt and a huge bat. Im running a SAZ-3500D and a single 15" level 5 DC woofer and I should be alright. I got my alt from a guy on here for 300$ shipped (200 amp when the stock one was like 94amp or something). My battery cost me like 140$ shipped from a guy on here (took a while but I got it). So it cost me about 500$ tops. Not saying yours would be anything more or less (cause I don't know)
