First Looks: Revamped RL-i 8" Driver

If I can get the sub to fit in my truck, I am going to have the port run completely out of the box under the rear seat. One long PVC tube, that way I can tell everyone I have a pipe organ in my truck.
  4. And of course, your car is a midbass generator driving down the road. If you look at road transmission through the doors and such of the car they are focused from 100Hz to 300Hz generically. Just to deal with the road noise you need extra oomph there and I am sure that the Kenwoods you have can be improved a lot by an upgrade. Moving up into a 7" or 8" driver will help a lot, but also require a bit of modification to your door as they will make the whole door panel pretty darn active. The other problem with 8's is finding a tweeter that can play low enough to go with it, or requiring that you go 3 way with a dedicated mid-range/mid-bass/tweeter combo. It can get as ridiculous as you want really, but the bottom line is a set of components or "separates" that have more midbass will really help out your system but will definetely require at least a 2 chn and all the way up to a 6 chn if you are running 3 ways in the front active. HU power isn't really power.....

Time to jump over the imbecile that is your boss and go to his. If this isn't pattern behavior for you, you will surely have grounds to sue for lost income. Of course, that is here in the mighty sue happy US but nonetheless tell that dude to grow up. Sucks you have to deal with that BS.

is it the motor specs? or the low tuning that is causeing such a long port? (maybe both?) Small box + Low tuning = One long-azz port

Terrible, amazing what marketing people think....why don't they ask sales. Our company is the same way. Web eye sex that is super annoying for anyone trying to navigate. Guess that is what happens when our marketing guru is not the web savy. Can't wait to see the new site.

Maybe true, but his port length is about right. When I read it first I had to go back and model up a box, I used a slightly smaller box (per Mike's rec'd on the web) and had a slightly longer port ~106" so it should be right. One heck of a box tho.

    Omega Midbass (22mm of xmax)

I don't need the anechoic for the laser work...full scanning vibrometer too. If you want to quantify break-up modes it will do time domain as well.

    Going for 2 12s

Port it and then mount it on the outside of your car for everyones enjoyment, or just port it to kick up the db's on the inside for yourself.

Perfect, if they break down and you need relief I have access to a full arsenal of B&K gear, a large anechoic chamber, and a laser vibrometer. The time in the room wouldn't be free for me, but I can make it happen if necessary.
  18. It will definetely add to your bass/midbass depending on how your subs are crossed over. Mine only play 60Hz and below, most music has a lot of bass higher than 60Hz. If your sub is crossed over real high, you will have a different experience. What are your comps? There are a ton of options that will "add" to your bass. If I misread that and you meant add as in make everything more musical, sound better, be cleaner, and generally more pleasant to listen to then most likely a fresh set of comps will go a long way provided you amplify them correctly and such (without knowing what you have...) Besides wanting to know what you have for comps, I'd really like to know how they were installed. It may be more logical for you to just spend some time fixing the install instead. You will be surprised how much that alone can add. Usually more than a new set of speaks (again without knowing...) Let us know what you have.

Any thoughts/plans of building one with a little higher extension? I remember there being some either TC2+ or TC2 8's floating around a while ago that had decent extension....up to around 500hz or so. That would make me redo everything!

If what you are saying is true, I am in for a pair; however, I can't assume just because you typed something here it is as stated...much more likely here than other places.

    Ideas for interior wall materials??

Generally a good idea to use anything to limit reflections, however in a sub cabinet I don't think I would care. For what at short wavelengths is a must, you just don't need for those big multi-foot ones.

    Welcome to the IHoP

Involves gluing some vacuum cleaner parts back together. The hose is connected to a piece of plastic that connects to the vacuum. The hose came apart from the plastic piece. Didn't see the glue squeezing out from the joint. I walked around looking like an elephant until I skillfully butchered some skin off with my pocket knife. I showed that vacuum who's boss.
